This is a great book for any fan of Chelsea handler. Funny, touching, and easy to digest. Will be recommending.
Chelsea Handler is back with a new book called Life Will Be the Death of Me. But this time she takes her readers on an emotional journey to self-awareness. The book opens with Chelsea visiting her psychiatrist and trying to process her grief over her brother, Chet, who died when she was just a child. She revisits the traumatic experience of losing him and how her family handled (or didn't handle) their grief. She also gets real about the death of her parents. First her mother's battle with cancer. She said less about her father's death, but I wonder if that is because of her rocky relationship with her father. She DID talk about how she casually revealed his death during a session with Dan, the psychiatrist. She also did not get into the grief she must have felt about the death of Chunk.
In typical hysterical fashion, Chelsea Handler gets honest about her attempts at self-sufficiency that didn't go so well. Like traveling to Spain (and back) with Chunk. They got there just fine, but the return trip had me laughing out loud. Or when she adopted Bert and Berneice only to tell her assistants to take the weekend off on their first weekend home. More hilarity.
I never really got to watch any of Chelsea Handler's shows, but I have read all of her books. And I have enjoyed each and every one of them. I felt different about Life Will be the Death of Me. Yes, it was just as funny as you have come to expect from a Chelsea Handler book, but there was a sense of vulnerability that hasn't been there before now. Talking about such devastating topics had to have been hard for her, especially when she is known for being a tough-talking comedian. It just made me like her even more.
Bottom Line - While Life Will be the Death of Me tackled some pretty serious and deeply personal topics, it was still infused with the wit and humor that millions of people love about Chelsea Handler.

Thank You to Netgalley for the book in exchange for a fair review
I've read all Chelsea Handler's books, and, like always, I spent a lot of time laughing. Although I differ in opinion from her in many subjects, I found her writing hilarious, honest , and relatable. Definitely a book for anyone looking for a laugh.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my copy of Life Will Be the Death of Me by Chelsea Handler. I've read everything that Handler has written and have been a fan since her E! talk show days. As usual, this was a hilarious take of Handler's life and I found myself laughing out loud. I'll always be a devoted Handler fan.
Love Chelsea! In her usual tongue in cheek style she talks about all things plus politics and her depression after Trump. Light read dealing with heavy issues
This book was great! I have read all of Chelsea's books and although I loved her first few, I was getting really tired of the more recent books (could not finish Uganda Be Kidding Me). I had high hopes that this book would turn it all around, and it did. It was fresh and grown up, yet still hilarious and totally Chelsea. Awesome!!!
I have been a huge fan of Chelsea Handler's for many years but have yet to read a book by her. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect from this book but am glad that I read it.
While filled with some humor, this book takes a more serious look at her life and what she has done to get through some of the struggles that she has had. She also gives advice on how to get through struggles you may be having.
I would strongly recommend this book.
I'll start by stating that this book is extremely different from any other Chelsea Handler book I've read in the past. I've read all her earliest books and loved those. Her sense of humor is wonderful and she's so blunt and honest. I'm also a fan of her Netflix shows/documentaries. I've been following her career for a while. This book took me by surprise. A pleasant surprise. <br />Chelsea Handler produced this crossover memoir/self-help book about her journey with her therapist, Dan Siegal, into letting herself grieve for her brother who died over thirty years ago. She uncovered a side of herself that her fans have not heard yet. This is her most forthcoming and honest work thus far. I was touched reading this book. Uncovering the band-aid from this huge loss she suffered as a child, she exposes the wound and does the work to heal herself. She recognizes that it is a process and she'll be working on learning new behaviors for a long time. If anyone has worked with a therapist specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, you'll see the techniques used with Chelsea throughout this memoir. This book is recommended for fans of Chelsea Handler (although major heads up that it is NOT a humor book), those who have suffered the loss of a sibling at a young age or in adulthood, or those who are grieving a death of any sort. This is my favorite piece of writing of Chelsea's and I look forward to seeing her upcoming documentary with Netflix on white privilege.
Also posted on my Goodreads and my personal blog.
I wasn’t expecting this. I began reading thinking it would be like any other Chelsea Handler book instead she is completely transparent about her life at this point. Her sarcastic wit is still throughout yet it is not targeted at others so much as it is at life after you have achieved your wildest dreams. Chelsea is a kind of person one has always wanted to “hang” with but this book endeared her to me.
Chelsea Handler is a fantastic comic writer, and I've loved all of her books as mindless, hilarious interludes (mostly on planes, where I have often had to explain my incessant laughing to unsuspecting seatmates). But this book, while still funny, is different. It adds a layer of depth and honesty that's new for her, and for her readers. It's raw and honest and hilarious and heartfelt, and I could feel her moving away from the world of "stand-up comedy" with every page. She's moved on to bigger, better and braver, and it shows.
Disclaimer....I have a special affection for Chelsea Handler. I admire and enjoy anyone who is unapologetically honest and direct. Life Will Be the Death of Me did not disappoint.
While the book has all of the comedic content you would expect, it also is an introspective look at an examined life. Chelsea takes a look at her life, and feels maybe she can do more. I think we can all relate to that, though maybe not on the scale of wondering why we have so many assistants!
She explains her special love for Robert Mueller in a hilariously personal way, and strives to be an advocate for changing the current political atmosphere.
As usual, Chelsea Handler does not disappoint. Her witty banter and fun stories make for a hilarious read that lives up to the expectations set by her previous books.
Chelsea Handler outdoes herself in this honest portrayal of a modern day "midlife crisis". In completely on brand honesty and humor, Chelsea details how the 2016 election left her a bit disoriented, like most of us, and unintentionally sent her on a much needed year of therapy, self reflection, and healing. If you're a fan of Chelsea's, have ever been in therapy, or experienced grief, this book will not disappoint. I could've done without the chapters on her pups, but as a fan of Chelsea's, I understood the inclination to include the chapters. Dog lovers will, obviously, be drawn to those chapters.
All in all, a worthwhile read for sure.
I used to watch Chelsea Handler on E every night I always admired her lack of filter. This book was pretty standard Chelsea care: dogs; drugs; and men. Oh, and therapy. The therapy stuff is good.
Chelsea Handler is know for her very specific brand of humor and I love it. This book, however, is not like her others. The humor is there but it's the not core. This book is about her growth as a person and wanting to be better. I really enjoyed and appreciated her honesty.
