The Angelbound world is the first series I have ever read by Christina Bauer and boy did I fall in love. Typically, I drift towards more fantasy worlds and less paranormal but this world was SO interesting! I loved it and recommend it to anyone who is looking for a fun, action-packed story!
I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.
This has been on my TBR pile for so long, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. I really enjoyed the storyline and seeing the characters change throughout the story was a great character development. The plot was great and kept my attention. I'm glad I got the chance to read this and will be on the lookout for more in the future!
This is really a repeat of book one told from the opposite view point.
But for all that it is still a highly enjoyable fantasy romance.
Great characters in an interesting world.
Although I usually enjoy Christina Bauer's stories, this one didn't 'do' it for me. But that is mostly because I didn't read the Angelbound series. Basically this one is the same story as Angelbound, only from POV of prince Lincoln. Of course, this is pretty cool, but it is hard to keep up if you didn't read the original story. So, next time I'll try to read it in the correct order. For now, I'll just dive into Calla's diaries, because they are pretty awesome too!
Three out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
Christina Bauer has done a good job in having Lincoln draw you into the story and keep you there. She has great world building and gives enough explanations on demons and what is going on but not an overabundance that detracts from the story itself.
The characters draw you in. Adair’s dad is the guy you love to boo. Adair is the spoiled girl you wish learns a lesson but see never does. She is petty and needs to grow up. Lincoln is more than meets the eye. He is kind and loyal. Honest and passionate. He will be a great king and is a wonderful warrior. What he does for Maia at the end swoon city. Maia is strong and stubborn. A great warrior and smart. She is also kind and perfect for lincoln. Walker is awesome and a great ghoul. He is loyal and kind.
Lincoln really is about Lincoln but also more. We get to see the true Lincoln and who he really is. And that is a caring man who loves his people and wants to keep them safe. A man who is bound to be a amazing king and is a great warrior. His parents have drilled into his head that marriage shouldn’t have love in it even thought they love each other. So why do they feel this way? It detracts from ruling well is their feeling. With this being how Lincoln was raised he didn’t think anything of it. So being engaged to Adair wasn’t a big deal to him but a political move and one that gave him a chance to take care of her father as well. Watching Lincoln fall in love is entertaining and dangerous in many ways but so addictive and good to see.
Adair’s dad is nutty. He is power hungry and doesn’t care about his people only him rising in ranks. And it seems he wants to rise to Lincoln’s spot to me. He is greedy and selfish. I love how Lincoln challenges him even if it goes against his family and could get him killed. He would rather die than see his people hurt unnecessarily.
Only Lincoln is intrigued by a girl now and she has captured his heart. His awesome friend Walker guides him and doesn’t guide him about the girl. And there is so much about her that should have him run. But he doesn’t. He finds her to be his equal and amazing. Together they fight like no other and understand what the other is thinking. Lincoln as a warrior is able to see more than others and find battle plans in his mind like no other. It’s amazing. This is a skill he needs in this book.
As him and Maia are falling in love, they are fighting demons and plots galore. Plots that put so many in danger. I love how Lincoln stands by Maia even at the risk of losing all he loves and holds dear to him. Watching the story unfold about who Maia is and what she stands for is great. Watching Maia and Lincoln fall for one another against all odds and beliefs was great. Seeing them respect and support each other no matter what is wonderful. They battle so much and so much is revealed in this story that keeps you in the moment and rooting for them as they find out the truth about who Maia is, what Adair’s dad is up to and see love overcome the uphill battle it faces and win with Maia and Lincoln.
Look forward to the next book and how Maia will overcome the new challenge to her new powers and responsibilities and how Lincoln is there and helping her as well.
When it comes to fighting demons, Prince Lincoln is the greatest warrior in the history of his people, the thrax. Now Lincoln faces his hardest fight yet…and it’s not on a traditional battlefield. Lincoln is falling in love. And the girl is part demon. Between a fated dance at the Ryder mansion...a life-changing walk through a hedgerow maze...and a massive battle with none other than the King of Hell...Lincoln realizes that he wants to share his life with Myla Lewis, the part-demon girl who has captured his heart. However, an evil thrax noble—the powerful Earl of Acca—is prepared to do anything to stop Lincoln and Myla from having a future.
I have never read this author before, so I wasn’t aware that this was the second book in a series. However, I was still able to enjoy it. The author did a good job in building Lincoln’s character. I really liked the story and look forward to more from this author. I recommend.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
***ARC received in exchange of an honest opinion***
I liked to read this story in Lincoln’s POV and also the additions to the original story.
Although I’m not really a fan of male POV’s (when the story is re-told from their perspective), I enjoyed this one.

I have loved getting this look into Lincoln's head, it really puts a new spin on the Lincoln I remember from the Angelbound series. I have always liked his character, but getting this insight to his feelings and motivations has been very insightful and I love it. Let's also mention how very proper and princely it is that he liked to send gift baskets for favors done (even if it is worms or 80's mixed tapes). It made me laugh every time that he contemplated a gift.
I also loved the brief stolen glimpses of Myla, of how I could see her actions that I remember so well from Angelbound but this time watch her through Lincoln's eyes. She is just as cool and fearless as I have always found her to be, but now a new layer of her sex appeal has been added to the book which never existed before (since she was our narrator and it would have been weird). In case you were wondering, Lincoln has always found her to be wonderful, even while pretending to act like a jerk- and boy was I glad to see the why's behind his previous behavior.
I enjoyed how while there were hints of the plot I already know, this was a complete story itself, with a mystery, action and villain that I had never heard of or experienced before. I thought that this was going to be a novella like Duty Bound, but I was pleasantly surprised that Lincoln was a full length book.
This was a fun, interesting new adventure with characters that I have already established a relationship with and love. I really hope that there will be another Lincoln POV to come.
I am voluntarily reviewing a complimentary copy of this book.
I love Myla and Lincoln so I was completely excited to get the book from his perspective. This made me want to reread Angelbound so I could 'fit' the stories and reactions together. Myla's attitude is the best part. She is who she is and doesn't plan to impress anyone. I think that is why Lincoln is so smitten by her from the start.
The fights are always well written by this author. Reading everything that was going on with Lincoln while Myla was thinking other things were going on was really neat. I'm trying not to gush because I don't want to go into details but if you haven't read Christina's books, pick up Angelbound first then read this one. You will thank me for the suggestion ;)
It was a 5/5 for me. Truly love these characters.
Thank you to the author for the review copy of this book via netgalley. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
Angelbound was a fantastic book so reading the story from Lincoln's POV just makes it better. I like how it wasn't pretty much word for word but instead we fill in all the blanks from when they were apart. Valuable character insight that really brings the story to life with Bauer's writing. Perfect for fans of fantasy. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
This book is very different from the traditional POV's where the authors basically repeat all the content of the book without adding anything new to the story.
In Angelbound - Lincoln, the author offers us a different story that explains a series of Angelbound elements that, without Lincoln, we could not explain, for example, why Lincoln initially despised Myla so much and suddenly changed his mind about her, and what happened in the days when Myla was in a coma after her battle against Armaggedon.
This book is not only highly recommended, but necessary if you want to continue reading the series, as it allows the reader to know more in depth the protagonists of the story.
Great book, great story, excellent series!
I am very fond of this version of world building and love the idea of demons getting loose and causing illnesses etc - but being invisible to the human eye. And that the Thrax and others like human ice-cream and films. The Ghouls are creepy and the monsters are very imaginative. Don’t read these books if you get nightmares as they will inhabit them!
I have now read all the books so far published in the series and found them enjoyable, but I thought that of all of them Armageddon was rather slow in tension building.
The story of Lincoln finally comes out now - his background and how he courted Myla from his perspective and then we learn about how Maxon got his night terrors in Armageddon.
Better to have read Armageddon before Maxon but this author does not produce books in chronological order so a bit tricky...
However, if you can manage to sort out the storyline in your own mind, then do read the books as they are published.
Excuse me while I take a moment to just freak out. *Turns on the sound absorbent chamber, screams like the girl she is, takes a deep breath and turns off chamber* Okay. I'm good now.
Having read and enjoyed nearly all the books in the Angelbound (main) series, I have wanted to know the story from Lincoln's perspective for a long time. Getting to understand his point of view on familiar events was fantastic. Reading this book was like completing only a portion of a million-piece puzzle and Lincoln's perspective brought the other pieces together.
If I wasn't already in love with Lincoln's character, I am pretty sure this book would have been the reason to love him. Definitely pick up with the book. You will not be disappointed. :D
I need half stars. I put this as a 5, because in my mind a solid 4.5 is close enough.
I'm not sure where I've been that this series has never been suggested to me, but I'm about to rectify that in a BIG way. I was captivated by this universe from the very beginning of the Duty Bound novella, and while admittedly I'm starting backwards by diving into the series from Lincoln's perspective, I have no regrets.
This world is rich and adventurous and full of otherworldly (but still regency) intrigue. Court games and keeping up appearances and gently toeing the line of all the rules. Drama and thrills!
Lincoln is an incredibly likeable guy (I'm sure if I hadn't started here I might not think so) and Myla is a heroine I can totally get behind. Add in a splash of sarcasm, some tension because of how one *should* or *must* act due to their station, set it all in Purgatory and let the games begin!
I loved every moment of this, and it was such a refreshing new fantasy world to step into. I can't wait to continue on! If you like fantasy, I can't help but recommend you start these immediately.
Prince Lincoln has been trained all his life nearly to fight and hunt demons until the day he lays eyes on a certain quasi-demon, part-human, part-demon who lives in Purgatory with her mother, Camilla. When Lincoln first lays eyes on Myla it is insta-love. Lincoln wants to be with Myla forever and will not let anything or anyone get his way.
The Earl of Acca has different plans for Lincoln and sets out to stop Lincoln from ever being with Myla. Aldred wants Lincoln to marry his daughter, Lady of Adair and tries to use Myla as way of blackmailing Lincoln to sign the contract to marry Lady Adair. But what the Earl doesn’t realize is that Lincoln is no DA and has plans of his own. Lincoln is not only a hottie the kind that will make your tongue reach out slap you on the forehead but he is an intelligent dude as well.
Lincoln makes alliances with the other houses to help him in his fight against the Earl of Acca but when they start to disappear he wonders if the Earl is not to blame in some way or another. Lincoln must find out what is happening to his men and who is responsible.
Lincoln has a lot on his plate with having to fight the Earl, demons and keeping his beloved Myla safe not to mention the fact that he is following her around so that he can ogle her without anyone noticing. Lincoln needs to stay far away from Myla if he is to keep her safe but how can he protect her if he can’t keep an eye on her at all times? Yeah but our Lincoln is not doing all the ogling himself no Myla is doing some ogling of her own (don’t blame you one little bit Myla).
I just love the Angelbound world with all the demons, angels, part-demons, part-humans. The characters are so bad themselves with all the fighting and trying to save others. I love getting the story from Lincoln side and knowing how it all went down for him. With Lincoln and Myla we have a couple that are really made for each other and are equals in all ways.
Both are strong and great warriors who know how to fight and are a great match for each other. I loved the scene where Lincoln and Myla were sparring/training, she tells him not to go easy on her but when things get a little tight she assumes she can use her tail against Lincoln like she does in the arena to umm…poke her opponents with but her tail has its own ideas as her tail and Lincoln have a special relationship just musses up his hair instead. Yes loved it! I love that her tail has a mind of its own.
Angelbound is filled with intense demon fighting amongst other fighting from beginning to end. It will keep you on the edge of your seat watching and waiting to see what demon or who Lincoln was going to come up against next and where he was going to lead us. I loved traveling with Lincoln from the House of Thrax to the House of Acca to Earth to Purgatory or to the arena to watch the fights or to a ball to dance or sparring with Myla and fighting some demons somewhere in between. I just love this world and can’t wait for more of it. I can’t wait for more of Lincoln, Walker, Myla and her tail oh and Lincoln’s too oh my now that is one hot dude right Myla, you go girl, Lady Adair keep on trucking you don’t want a piece of Myla Lewis.
Angelbound is an amazing series that I highly recommend to one and all weather you like demons, ghouls or the Great Scala. If you like adventure, fighting, action, romance and hot dudes then you are going to love Lincoln, Angelbound Origins book two.
It was cool to see things from Lincoln's point of view and what both he and Kyle were thinking and feeling. I love how all these books are about different people but work from a central storyline.
I was so excited when I saw I had been approved for this title on Netgalley, and I was justified to be so! I absolutely love Lincoln, and having his point of view really made me happy. I love the writing style and I really feel like I'm inside the characters heads. The pacing is fantastic and it didn't drag at all. I read this whole book in one sitting!
Sexy and alluring - I need my own Prince Lincoln please! Definitely must read for the Angelbound series!
This is a fantastic series. This is Angelbound from Lincoln's point of view. However, there is much more to the story than just a retelling. I enjoy the characters of Lincoln, Myla and Walker. Christiana Bauer's world building is very good and I can never put her books down once I start reading them.
Thank you to the publisher, the author and Netgalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review. - Love this series - I am currently on the hunt for the rest of the series.
Lincoln is the first book I've read by the author, Christina Bauer. I think reading the first book would have been helpful for some background information. Still, I enjoyed this book as a stand alone. I always like the male perspective in any type of situation. Lincoln feels timeless, commanding, dangerous and sultry. Male characters usually seem smothered somehow, like no insight into what they thought or their motives, etc. Lincoln is a complex character and represents very well. Such a mind to uncover here! It's exciting! I like Lincoln's character and his story. Overall, the story is thoughtfully written and engaging with vivid world building and dynamic characters. Definitely going back to read whatever I've missed! Ms. Bauer has written an insightful story that's worth your time. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
