Roll With It was a great read! I think many students can relate to some of the trials and tribulations of the main character, and also are provided a window into what it’s like navigating school as a wheelchair user. Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC!

It’s rare to find books that represent kids with disabilities in a fun, positive way, but Roll With It does just that. The main character, Ellie, May face challenges but she doesn’t let them stand in the way. I will definitely recommend this book be put in our middle school classroom libraries.

I read this book last year and have recommended it countless times to my students. Ellie is not just the character in this book. She has become a part of our classroom and the heart of so many important conversations about acceptance, courage, and friendship. LOVED IT!

My library has a copy of this book and I'm always recommending it.
This book is great for fans of realistic fiction as well as for those that enjoyed Wonder by R.J. Palacio.
Loved this book.

A solid read. Not only do we have a new kid in town, we have a kid in a wheelchair who lives in a trailer park and hangs out with a couple of weirdos. Basically everything that could make her and outsider is present here. And like very kid in middle school she wants to fit in.. Sumner also addresses realities of cerebral palsy that books often leave out. Like the increased risk of illness. This has our protagonist needing to weigh her desire for independence against her physical well being. One I would easily recommend.

As a special education teacher I love graphic novels and I love when the main character has a disability. I also thought Ellie and her mom shared a special relationship. Her father had left, when she was young, so it was really only her and her mom. Mom was a bit overprotective, but it came from a place of love, and I think Sumner did a beautiful job showing how difficult it was for her mother to strike that right balance of mothering with the autonomy a child Ellie's age craved.

I can promise you, that at the end of this book, you will have a warm heart, a smile on your face, and a craving for baked goods.

I love middle grade novels that have main characters with disabilities. I think it's so important to read about that type of diversity, so I was extremely excited to see this book. I was disappointed in the main character, Ellie. She came off as rude, which was a big turn off to me. Her relationship with her mom didn't seem great, even though she said it was. I also hate when the dad leaves because the child gets diagnosed with a disability. I know that happens in real life though. I loved Ellie's friends and her grandparents in the book, and her PE teacher at her new school. I didn't like how it seemed like teachers and aides did not help her at all. These teachers truly were horrible to her, and as a teacher I don't feel like that is accurate. I would probably recommend this to students, but I probably wouldn't recommend it to adults.

A mixed bag for me--I enjoyed the voice and the character's sass, but had issues with how the author handled class differences. The repeated references to "the trailer" they live in felt inauthentic, and like set dressing. It made me question whether the author really had ever lived in such a home, or knew anyone who did. I also thought that the CP elements came across a bit inconsistently. She could do some physical actives like pop a wheelie, but not pull herself up in bed? That read to me like the author didn't fully know what it was like for someone with her character's disability. Because of these inconsistencies, I probably wouldn't recommend it.

Didn’t care for this. I’m generally pretty bored with abled adults writing about disabled people. Pass.

Thank you NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Children’s Publishing/ Atheneum Books for Young Readers for granting me an eARC of this middle grade novel. The cover is what grabbed me at the start and made me want to read it-I mean, a girl in a wheelchair spinning a pie on her finger? Yes please! I gave this book 5 stars because of Ellie, the main character, and her straight-forward, strong attitude. She is such a fighter and is independent and I enjoy reading about those kinds of characters. She lifted others up and I will definitely be sharing this book with my sixth graders to lift them up and give them confidence.

Great book! Roll With It is a great book to give to middle grades students who like friendship, family issues, and learning to deal with your differences. There is a lot of perseverance in this book with pretty much all of the main characters.

In Roll with It, Ellie moves from a larger city where access to special service are available to a small town where those accommodations are not so easily obtained. Ellie learns to adjust and to even thrives in her new environment. This book gives perspective in how persons with disabilities see the world and how we should interact with them.

A realistic and very likable character in Ellie, dealing with the ups and downs of life in middle school. Ellie has to deal with typical middle school stuff plus moving to a new school, parents who are separated, and caring for a sick grandparent, in addition to life's challenges due to her cerebral palsy. The book was fast-paced and fun to read, I'll definitely recommend it to kids in the coming months, especially for those that were fans of Wonder.

Love this tale told from the perspective of a a girl in a wheelchair! Despite her obvious obstacles, the story is much more about the normal frustrations and difficulties of being young, adjusting to a new school, and watching grandparents struggle with aging. This is a sweet story and one I can’t wait to add to my library collection.

Spectacular book about a young girl named Ellie who loves to bake and happens to have cerebral palsy. Ellie is strong, ambitious and is not defined or held back by her wheelchair. I loved how this story shows that great things can come out of a situation you wouldn't normally think was great and how friendships in life are so important- especially in middle school. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

This is a great middle-grade novel that is about way more than having a disability! It is about friendship and family and everything in between. I cannot wait to share this book with the readers in my life!

I really enjoyed this middle grade book. It's nice to see a character that is physically challenged be a fiesty one. Many times we think of wheelchair bound people as meek and quiet. This book shows that they are just like the rest of us. Refreshing.

I really enjoyed getting sucked into the world of our MC, Ellie. She is thoughtful and spunky and the cast of characters she draws to her are the best (sweet, quirky). I also almost always fall for an MC who loves food, and Ellie loves to bake (I was literally watching The Great British Bake Off when I paused to read this book so the opening page referencing GBBO was spot on for me!).

This book does an excellent job of navigating some tough situations (Alzheimer’s, disability, kid/parent relationships.. middle school!), and it does it in authentic ways.

I look forward to sharing this one with others.

Thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for ARC in exchange for an honest review!

4 stars for me personally, 5 stars for what it brings to the table and that it exists — it’s really well done!

I received a free digital review copy through NetGalley. This is an important perspective of a girl living normal every day life while having cerebral palsy.

This was a delightful story about a young girl named Ellie with cerebral palsy. She struggles with starting over when her and her mom move to help care for her aging grandparents. Starting a new school is hard enough when you don’t live with disabilities, and for Ellie it was hard. Ellie is able to make some new friends and show that she is more than just “the girl in the wheel chair” when she shares her love for baking!
I have had some children in my preschool with cerebral palsy, but my understanding of living with it is very limited.. This book is soo great for anyone living with cerebral palsy or any other disability. My 9 yr old has developmental disabilities and I thought of him while reading this story.
This would be a great addition to any school library!
Thank you for this review copy.
