I’m actually not sure what I think of this book. I read it quite quickly which I usually say is a good sign; however, I don’t know whether I actually enjoyed it.
The book is quite slow-going, to begin with, and even at 30% in I wasn’t sure what it was really about. There weren’t any hints at it being a Psychological Thriller, and even when the real drama got going, it still didn’t feel like it.
Towards the end was probably the best bit as you get answers as to what has been going on. However, I don’t think the story was very well-developed to get to that point. The book is called The Liars which indicates the two protagonists Jade and Ava are liars; however, the lies just didn’t fit in. We as a reader were told one thing, but then that was all thrown out when we were told ‘the truth’. The truth, though, didn’t sit in with what we had seen actually happen.
There were inconsistencies throughout the book; for example, Jade leaves her phone at the bar, but then when she’s at home she gets a message on it!
The book as a whole felt just office politics on speed! Everything seemed really petty, and I could not figure Jade out, had she been diagnosed with a mental disorder? She was undoubtedly a bit cuckoo, but then I did start to feel sorry for her, which was quite hard to do at the beginning.
The very end of the book left me feeling frustrated, I’m not sure what that last chapter set out to achieve, but it wasn’t necessary. The author wanted obviously to give the readers a gasp moment and make us think but what was there to think about??
So the book had its good moments, but overall, I don’t think it was well put together. Good premise but not very well executed.
Really enjoyed this book. It soon grabbed me in and I found it to be a good read.
Another author to add to my list.
Eh, not much new here. I didn’t love the story or any of the characters, they were mostly unlikable, and in the case of Jade, ridiculous and immature. I’m getting bored with the women/frenemy/backstabbing/competition thing. I know it’s fiction but it’s a too common theme lately and as a woman, and mother of a 17 yr old girl, it’s just depressing.
I figured out rather quickly who the villain is. I did go on to finish it nonetheless so it’s not all bad. Not sure the epilogue was needed (haven’t we had enough already).
I think that some people will like this and find it clever so please take a chance on it. I just read a lot, and mostly thrillers, so new concepts can be hard to come by...

My thoughts
Rating: 5 stars
Would I recommended it?yes
Will I read any thing else by this author? yes
what a great start for a debut novel ,the author sets the story up so you don't like one of the characters, and makes you think that an overdoes is what it seems to be, and that Jade and Ava secrets can't be that bad and that both might be just as guilty as the next , but the more you read the more you realize that what ever the secret is its a secret that needs to be let out , and that the more you find out you find out that not every body is who they seem to be . That there is someone who has a dark secret as well and that's its even more darker then what Ava'a and Jade's is and that they well do what ever it takes to keep it a secret and that their not the type of person you want to trust or been in a room with . With that said I want to think Netgalley for letting me read and review it exchange for mt honest opinion.
Tense chilling thriller drew me right in.An author to follow for lovers of well written chilling reads .Will be recommending to reader friends.#netgalley #ariabooks,
Not for me, sadly. I just couldn’t get to grips with the story line and the writing didn’t capture me. A real shame, as the first quarter of the book was strong.
I loved Ms Joy’s writing style, quick, insightful and clean without wasting a word in this story of two women who are rivals in the same public relations firm and share a deadly secret.
Ava Wells appears to have it all: a stable relationship, a great career and has caught the eye of the firm’s owner who partly because she went to university with his daughter, whose death from an overdose is the catalyst which binds them together.
Jade Fernleigh is ambitiously envious of Ava, and determined her erstwhile friend is not having the promotion, or the man, she feels are hers.
I understood Ava’s motivation from the beginning and sympathised with how she planned her route out of an abusive relationship, only to find herself in another one through circumstance rather than design. Jade was more difficult to like as I found her attempts to attract Josh, the man she decided was rightfully hers, quite cringeworthy – which might have been deliberate on the author’s part. She was also far more ruthless in her efforts to score points off Ava, even prepared to ruin her with blackmail.
This is a situation which grows more convoluted as the plot develops, and although I identified the bad guy early on, the end wasn’t so much a secret as a misunderstanding. However, as I said above I cannot fault the author's writing style which captivates from the start.

Thank you for allowing me an advance copy to review.
This story really does have the making for a great book, but sadly I lost interest part way through but kept reading incase I had missed something key that would bring the book back on track.
It started off rather well with a gripping story line - three best friends, one dies, lies, guilt, envy, psychopathic traits in characters all thrown into the mix, but for me the book was just to slow in the middle to the end and it didn’t end quite as one would have expected which left me feeling slightly disappointed.
That said it’s wonderfully written with a good plot and I would recommend a read, although it didn’t quite meet what I was looking for.
The Liars is in fact a story of lies and deception. Jade is in line for a promotion. She's also interested in a certain guy. Things look good for her future. Now, meet Ava. Through an accident of fate, Ava shows up and takes Jade' s promotion. She's given a fantastic place to live. She's also interested in that same certain guy. Is revenge in order? Who will win this scheming underhanded fight? It's a treacherous psychological thriller with twists and turns everywhere. These women are intelligent, devious and possibly lethal. I enjoyed the plot of the story and the characters. This is a great psychological thriller. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.

A psychological mystery not to be missed. Masterfully plotted, thriller that kept me up past midnight, as I compulsively turned the pages to reach the end. Just as the book suggests, it's full of lies and I loved every bit of it!

Gripping plot & liked the writing style. I really enjoyed this book would recommend it to anyone who likes this kind of thriller.
Olivia had died from an overdose. This one incident had started an onslaught of actions and reactions.
Ava had been a friend and co-worker of Olivia's. It was Olivia's father, David, who owned the company for which Ava worked. David had offered Olivia's posh living quarters to Ava following Ava's abuse by her boyfriend, Charlie. She had accepted and found out that David's feelings for her were not all paternal...
Jade also worked for David's company and was also in line for the same promotion as was Ava. Jade also had an obsession for David's adopted son, Josh. Jade could never live up to Ava's talent, intellect and looks. This was one of Jade's downfalls...
Ava was awarded a supervisory position that Jade had also aspired for. Jade used every trick she could to obtain that position - even blackmail...And now Ava went missing...
This set-up became ideal for a brilliant plot and character portrayal by the author, Naomi Joy.
Highly recommend - this story will have you still on edge until the very end. A great suspense thriller!
Many thanks to Aria Publishing and NetGalley for a super read!

I enjoyed the book. It was hard to pick up steam as it went. I read the word "smelt" instead of smelled until I groaned. I did finish in a day. It was a book I had figured out who was crazier.

Just couldn’t get into this one. I kept slogging through it in case I had been missing some secret depths that heretofore had just gone over my head, but I just didn’t care about the here women, and I’m usually a sucker for a down-and-out gal vs the Beloved. But here, not so much.
