I have loved everything about the Cookbook Nook Mysteries since book one, I fell in love with each character. I always look forward to what they’re up to next.
There’s so much I can say about SIFTING THROUGH THE CLUES. What I can say is, this is the best in the series so far! This book had me glued to my chair. An exciting mystery. Author Gerber did such a great job keeping me guessing!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book from cover to cover. SIFTING THROUGH THE CLUES in one word? FABULOUS!
The Cookbook Nook series never disappoints - great story, developing characters, believable situations, and circumstances which you can relate to or wish you were part of (in this case, the Book Club Bonanza!) Jenna, her Aunt Vera, Bailey, and Katie make me wish I had a Cookbook Nook and Cafe where I live. Reading this book, and series, you get very attached to all the characters, even Pepper!, as they are so well-developed and continue to grow with each book. The mix of mystery/murder with the recipes, cookbook lore, and "side stories" are a perfect blend for an enjoyable reading experience. This book, and the entire series, should not be missed!
A progressive dinner sounds like a wonderful idea, until you include a side of murder with your dessert. This story was as sweet and savory as the recipes layered thru out the chapters. With a variety of characters and the possibility of Pepper being the prime suspect, Jenna was sure to get involved to help clear her friend. There are several suspects and some very interesting mythological symbolism, not to mention the excellent food descriptions. Food, friends, and foul play plus an expectant baby makes this an excellent and delectable mystery.
Crystal Cove is the site of yet another great tourism idea, the Book Club Bonanza, which is perfect for Jenna Hart’s Cookbook Nook store. Fisherman’s Village houses many such unique stores and the setting for this series continues to whet my appetite for travel to Northern California! A progressive dinner, which seems to be hosted among both friends and frenemies ends with the discovery of a body at one of the stops. Jenna is encouraged by many to stick her nose into this, especially since a friend is a likely suspect. Her chief of police friend Cinnamon goes back and forth on how much ‘help’ she wants from her, but Jenna manages to uncover many viable suspects. It took me a long time to figure out who the culprit was, similar to Jenna. There’s a lot going on in Crystal Cove and it is a great way to spend some reading time.
This was a fun, cute cozy mystery! I love the theme throughout, and I will definitely be continuing with the series.
Crystal Cove is having a Book Club Bonanza to attract the tourists. Jenna as a member of the Mystery Mavens book club is part of the group that is participating in a progressive dinner for its members. Ivy Beale's house is slated as last for the dessert course but when the group arrives Ivy is found dead in the kitchen. There are plenty of suspects (Ivy wasn't the most popular person in town) but the chief suspect is the mother of the Chief of police. Jenna feels that she needs to help the police chief find the real murderer since she may be a bit too close to the situation.
As always the writing is superb and the characters and situations thoroughly entertaining.
The Cookbook Nook would be on my bucket list of places to visit if it were real. Daryl Wood Garber has done such an exceptional job of making the Nook and the characters in this series so real it feels as if the reader could just run to town to see what's new at the Nook. Add in the excitement of so many book clubs in town for an event and you have one very busy scene set for murder. As the investigation moves forward, it's up to our Cookbook Nook favorites to figure out the who and why of the murder before the killer strikes again.
These are always one of my "go to" books when I want a guaranteed good read.
During Crystal Cove’s Book Club Bonanza, there are book clubs from all over in town to participate in the events. Everyone is having a great time and businesses are booming. Jenna Hart, local businesswoman, is looking forward to the week’s events, but maybe most of all to her local Mystery Mavens’ travelling dinner. The plan is to enjoy some culinary treats and discuss their latest book club mystery.
But when one of the participants, the final stop of the evening, is found dead, there are plenty of suspects, including Jenna’s friend Pepper, whose daughter happens to be the chief of the Crystal Cove police department. Jenna decides she must step in and help clear her friend!
This was a good read with no dearth of culprits, any of whom could be the murderer. The author kindly provided a Cast of Characters for the Crystal Cove citizenry, which was a helpful reminder on occasion!
This book was amazing! I always love to visit Jenna and the Cookbook Nook. This may possible be my favorite event happening in any of the books in this series. Book Club Bonanza Week had me wishing I could go and discuss books and met eat at a Mystery Mavens feast. The mystery was intriguing and had me guessing and I was so happy for my favorite characters and all the great things that happened by the end of the book I highly recommend this book and series
Another excellent edition to a wonderful series! Full of twists and turns that leaves you wanting more and enjoying each moment until the end when the killer is caught!
Sifting Through Clues by Daryl Wood Gerber is a Cookbook Nook Cozy Mystery. It's like coming home, reading this book and being transported to the Cookbook Nook and all our friends in Crystal Cove, checking in with their lives and loves. Jenna, along with her aunts runs the Cookbook Nook and always seems to be working on a murder investigation. Her longtime friend, Cinnamon, chief of police in the small town and doesn't like or want her interference, and for this book, at least, has a cell phone that is not functioning properly. She isn't getting her texts and messages, and not only from Jenna. It could be stress as her leading suspect for Ivy's murder is her own mother, Pepper, another longtime resident of Crystal Cove.
As are all cozies, this one is character driven, rather than plot driven. The plot is thin in spots but it all works out based on the relationships portrayed, although the author seems to be reaching sometimes. Babies are born, weddings are planned, houses are bought, murders are solved. Life moves on, in a thoroughly engaging way. If you like cozies, this series, this book, is probably already a go-to. I recommend it. I enjoyed it.
I received a free ARC of Sifting Through Clues. All opinions expressed herein are my own. #netgalley #siftingthroughclues
Eight books in and they are just as charming as ever. A great cozy series that can be loved by all mystery readers or those just breaching the genre.
SIFTING THROUGH CLUES by Daryl Wood Gerber is the eighth book in 'A Cookbook Nook Mystery' series and my first book in this series. I thought this cozy mystery was just fabulous. The plot was absorbing and the story was full of twists and turns when the protagonist, Jenna Hart, attempted to identify the perpetrator of the murder. Jenna, the owner of the Cookbook Nook book store was a great character and I loved her for her savvy and her loyalty.
I enjoyed SIFTING THROUGH CLUES so much that I have plans to go back and read the first seven books in the series, though how realistic this is, I'm not sure. I recommend this book to everyone who loves a well written cozy mystery.
I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel, at my own request, from Beyond The Page Publishing via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
Sifting through the Clues is the eighth installment of the Cookbook Nook series. The small town of Crystal Cove is celebrating the library’s Book Club Bonanza week, and Jenna Hart has special activities planned during the festival at her bookstore, The Cookbook Nook. The bookstore owners are getting together for a progressive dinner, and at the last stop, Jenna discovers that the owner of one of the stores has been murdered. Not only does that ruin the progressive dinner, but Jenna’s close friend Cinnamon who is also chief of police must also put her own mother on the suspect list. Cinnamon doesn’t like Jenna putting her nose into investigations, but that doesn’t stop Jenna, and it causes plenty of trouble.
While this isn’t the most suspenseful book in the series, it is well-written and will keep readers interested throughout. The familiar characters find themselves helping Jenna investigate, even though there are distractions, like Bailey being very pregnant, Rhett thinking of changing careers, and Jenna and Rhett working on wedding plans. There are several other characters introduced in this novel, and they all seem to be suspects, but Gerber writes in a way that the mystery isn’t solved until the end of the novel. Food lovers will love this series, since there are lots of recipes for the treats served in the bookstore and the adjoining restaurant. Culinary mystery aficionados will enjoy reading this novel and also preparing the simple recipes.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying review copies of these books.
Crystal Cove is celebrating Book Club Bonanza week where an exciting evening of house hoping feast with the Mystery Mavens leads to a deadly end to the tour. When the ladies find one of the their own dead in their home at the end of tour it leads to a couple of the members as prime suspects Jenna finds herself caught up in trying to figure out who did it so Pepper the Chief of Police mom's doesn't end up behind bars.
A book full of tasty foods and at the end you get the recipes. This is the 8th book in the series but you can read as a stand alone. I really enjoyed reading this book and did not want to put it down. A great cozy mystery that will make you want to get up and try some the recipes they have in it. Definitely do yourself a favor and pick up this book.
I have read other books by this author and each book gets better and better. Her storytelling ability is top notch. The mystery and solving it kept me guessing until the end. When I can lose myself in a book, I know it is a good story. I recommend this.
My rating: 3 of 5 stars, I liked it.
Book 8 in the series.
I love this series, but this wasn't my favorite. I had a hard time getting into it, and kept putting it down in favor of other books. I did finally finish it, and ultimately I liked it. The plotting is strong as usual. I have to admit, I have never really been a fan of Pepper, so maybe that's why I just couldn't really commit to this book.
And there's also this little niggling hint of reality growing in my mind that the Book Nook in real life would never be capable of supporting so many owners. That seems to be interfering a bit with my enjoyment as well. But that's purely a "me" problem, cozy mysteries are never meant to be realistic, after all.
All in all, it's a good entry in the series, maybe a bit slow to start.
I think this series just gets better with each installment. In this one, Jenna and the Mystery Mavens are having a progressive dinner party / book club meeting as part of the Book Club Bonanza week celebration. One of the members of the group is murdered along the way, and Jenna’s friend is looking like the prime suspect.
The descriptions of the town and the festivities seemed so inviting in contrast to the brutal murder. Jenna discovered more suspects and motives than you would have expected to find in her small town and she has to figure out which one is the real culprit before her friend Pepper is arrested. I didn’t guess who it was until the very end.
The mystery really sucked me in and the recipes at the end of the book sound wonderful. I have enjoyed watching the relationships between the characters in this series grow and evolve, and they feel like old friends now. I’m already anxious for the next trip back to Crystal Cove!
I must have missed a book or the author had her characters jump forward in time. Several are now married and one is pregnant.
There's quite a bit about babies at the start, but it lessens as the mystery develops. The story is packed full of content with mystery elements and the lives of the main and secondary characters. So, I ultimately enjoyed the book.
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
This is the 8th book in the Cookbook Nook Mystery series. It's a great series that is well-written with interesting and dynamic characters. Jenna Hart owns the Cookbook Nook in the small town of Crystal Cove, and she solves some murders every now and then.
In this installment, Crystal Cove is getting ready for Book Club week at the library, and Jenna and her book club, the Mystery Mavens, are having a progressive dinner, going house to house for different courses. Unfortunately, the last host is discovered dead and Jenna needs to find the killer to clear her friend Pepper.
I really enjoyed this book and the other books in the series. Thanks to Beyond the Page Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
