Poor Chloe! At least she has Ronnie, her dog. A romance writer whose marriage has gone kerplunk, she's moved into a new house hoping for a fresh start. She's got anxiety however and that makes life difficult. It does take a leap of faith to actually go to the Singleton Club after impulsively joining it and you'll admire her for that. Alex, the erstwhile love interest, is a good character but this isn't about romance, it's about Chloe getting back to herself. It's very funny in spots. Thanks to Netgalley for the ArC. A good read.

I received Suddenly Single by Carol Wyer as an ARC from Netgalley. Chloe Piper is a bestselling romance writer who discovers that her husband has been cheating on her. She leaves their village and buys a new home in the country. Chloe deals with social anxiety and she just wants to get away from people. I'm an introvert and deal with minor social anxiety so I can relate to how Chloe feels. Her neighbor, Eleanor, has started a new Singles Group business and convinces Chloe to come to the group's first event. Chloe learns to have confidence in herself and also learns how to deal with her social anxiety. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it.

I am loving the trend oh main characters with mental health issues and books that tackle these topics. As someone who has struggled with anxiety and panic discover since high school, it is nice to see a character that is like me and that I can relate to. So when I saw Suddenly Single, I was excited to read another book covering these topics. This was cute read, but some of Chloe’s development fell short. At points her anxiety didn’t seem believable. Some moments she seemed to really struggle and then suddenly it wasn’t a big deal. I also didn’t connect with the romance. But it was a cute read with an interesting setting and interesting characters.

Recommended to those who love British fiction and light hearted romances.

This was definitely one of those books that I did not want to finish, and I'm already hoping for a sequel! The book follows romance novelist Chloe Piper, who, after her marriage falls apart, flees her cheating ex and village to the newly built Sunny Meadow Farm with her dog Ronnie. After her friendly neighbours get her hopelessly drunk, she agrees to join their Singleton Club, although she has a social anxiety disorder. It was an extremely enjoyable, quick read, that had me laughing and crying at times, and falling completely in love with Chloe's personality. Huge praise for Carol Wyer!

Really enjoyed Carol’s Natalie Ward series. However I struggled to get into this. The characters are likeable enough, but I felt there was a lack of chemistry. Also the neighbours, rather than being helpful they often came across as interfering busybodies!

I love your thrillers Carol, your romantic fiction not so much I’m sorry to say.

A joyous gem of a love story! Suddenly Single had me rooting for all of the members of the singles club but especially Chloe and Alex. The friendships that were developed were just as sweet as the romantic couples. And any book that has a dog as practically a main character gets bonus points. Lovely read.

I thought the premise of this book was good, but I didn't fully love the execution of it. I felt it took far too long for Chloe and Alex to admit their feelings for one another, and once they did, I didn't really believe it. I just didn't feel much chemistry between them. I did enjoy the interactions between the singletons and that dynamic, and I really appreciated the social anxiety representation. Overall, this just unfortunately didn't grab me as I'd hoped it would.

Written by Carol Wyer, this novel was a lovely easy read that was a romantic fluff.

Everything that happened in this novel was emotional and nothing physical. Alex, the romantic interest, was wonderful, and Chloe was a very believable character.

The writing was okay - and I will admit that reading it digitally likely took away from it for me - but it wasn't the best novel of the year. A good summer read/vacation read with a lovely ending.

Huge fan of Carol Wyer. I love the Detective Natalie Ward series. I really enjoyed this book. I loved the parts about the singleton club and the events. It reminded me of What Happens in France, which I loved. I loved getting to know all the people and wouldn't have minded having them more in the book. Huge Rob with his love of cats and dressing them up in outfits, how can you resist??!! I wouldn't mind doing all those outings, especially the duck herding. I wasn't a huge fan of Chloe. I didn't hate her but didn't love her. At times it didn't even seem like Chloe had social anxiety disorder. It seemed to come and go and she was always able to go out and do stuff. When I first read the title of Chloe's book- Spank Me Harder, Vicar, I was completely surprised. Then I wanted to actually read it, since all the characters in the book raved about it. It was quite funny when she got caught doing research for her next book. By doing research, I mean she was watching porn. Loved Ronnie, he was definitely a scene stealer. With the amount of food Chloe was always feeding him, I'm surprised he wasn't too fat to actually walk.

I definitely recommend the book. It was a fun read. I look forward to reading more books by the author.

Simple yet entertaining.

This is a good take on the happenings of divorce and the idea of starting to date again when suddenly left single.

There were moments of laughter and moments of reflection.

Over all this is a well rounded novel that makes for an easy but enjoyable read.

Chloe, a romance novelist, suddenly finds herself without a husband. Looking to start over, she moves to a house in a small town away from the hussel and bussel of city life. This story takes us through Chloe's social anxiety and learning how to deal with her new life on her own. After a night of drinking she joined a club and slowly, but surely she gets to know her neighbors, all with interesting stories that add to her life.

The quality of writing in this book is top notch. I loved the little snark and sarcasm in Wyer's style and found myself smiling while I was reading the story.

This book was an easy read that had just enough to hold my attention and make me feel like I had watched a great movie.

It does have some stereotypical characters, but the writing made it more unique.

This books gave me a lot of Sophie Kinsella vibes. I felt like I was reading one of her books even though I don't have an opinion on whether or not Wyer's work is better or worse. I felt the story got off to a great, interesting start but hit a lull very quickly. I didn't feel invested in this story the way I anticipated.

I felt like this was a perfect chick lit read. The premise was relatable and emotional, the outcome was hilarious and fulfilling and the main character had such a voice throughout the story that I felt like I was looking in on a friend. It was a great romance, with some wittiness and raciness thrown in. This was my first book by this author and I look forward to more of her novels in the future.

So this book ended up being a disappointment. I was all ready to read about a woman that is dealing with a separation and finding herself single after many years as part of a couple. Instead there were a whole host of other things happening in this book that in the end didn't work together for me. Most was the fact that the main character, Chloe Piper, has a social anxiety disorder that the author uses for plot purposes. Sometimes Chloe is okay around a group of people and other times she says no to things because of how she will react. We even get a scene of her "twerking" (DEAR WHITE PEOPLE STOP DOING THIS) and her friend and his daughter upload it via Instagram so that she can get used to people watching her. I was hiding my eyes in shame and I wasn't even the one doing things depicted in this book. The romance was lukewarm and the ending was meh.

"Suddenly Single" follows Chloe Piper as she settles herself and her dog into their new home. Chloe is dealing with the breakup of her marriage and how that has impacted her ability to write. Chloe is secretly a best selling author of one book that everyone has gone crazy for in the U.K. Now that her husband has left her for another woman, she feels like her creativity is gone. That is until Chloe starts to "have feelings" for her next door neighbor Alex and meets some new people in a singles meet up group.

So. Chloe. She was written inconsistently. We hear that Chloe didn't get over the death of her sister and parents so her shyness turned into something else which eventually led to her social anxiety disorder. But she ends up meeting her husband (after his persistence) and they managed to marry. Eventually her inability to be out among people drove a wedge and finally he leaves her. I was hoping the book would focus on this disorder and how hard it is for people out there with this. Instead Wyer decides to randomly have Chloe go out at one point, get drunk, and meet two people she has never laid eyes on before who end up talking her into going out with their group they created and has her start to meet people. Another reviewer mentioned she has social anxiety and she didn't like how this was written and I feel badly for her since she was hoping the book would touch upon the condition.

Chloe also decides she likes someone for reasons and then rejects other suitors because of reasons. It was all so wishy-washy I was over it. I actually liked another male character for Chloe because he knew about the disorder because his own mother had it. But nope, just go for the chemistry free zone character. It didn't help though when Chloe tries to use this as a reason to not date him. I maybe went, you were literally twerking on a freaking Instagram post! Why is going to a ball a freaking issue?

The other characters in this book were not developed at all. And it didn't help when Chloe's ex comes back at on the scene. I don't get at all what Wyer was doing with that.

The writing was okay and just meh in parts in my opinion. The flow was terrible throughout. Usually I like chapter headings to set the mood so to speak for the book, but I thought that too much was happening back to back every day.

The setting of Sunny Meadow Farm sounded interesting, but we really don't meet anyone but two other neighbors.

The ending shows an epilogue and I was just glad to put this book behind me.

Another refreshing book from Carol Wyer.
Newly separated Chloe moves to a new house, that is in the middle of a small building site. The tranquil location suits her and her dog Ronnie. Within a few days she meets her new neighbours who invite her to join a singles club. Chloe doesn't want them to find out she's written a novel and that she has a social debilitating condition.
Throughout the book we read Chloe's story, her ups and downs. Her fears and wishes. Can this new environment change Chloe?
An easy read, which I enjoyed. A book about friendship, determination and a reason to turn your life around.

A quick, fun read, Suddenly Single also gives us a nuanced and realistic portrayal of someone dealing with severe anxiety. Chloe has setbacks, makes progress, and grows so much over the course of this book. I also greatly enjoyed Carol Wyer’s sense of humor throughout the story. She’s given us a feel-good story that everyone can laugh and empathize with.
