Aubrey and Grant Roosevelt Lincoln’s explained divorce features in Kate Meader’s Then Came You two years after said divorce: second chance plot line for those of you who can’t waste their time reading beyond this point.

I was confused reading this conclusion to Meader’s trilogy of Laws of Attraction. The writing style completely stumped me; at times the characters broke through the fourth wall and would talk directly to the reader (by saying you and y’all) and then go back to a first-person style.

I was further irked by all of this blame for the marriage ending from both Aubrey and Grant towards Aubrey. It wasn’t just Aubrey’s fault for their so-called rock-solid marriage’s failure— it takes two to kill a marriage and when something traumatic happens it’s even more devastating to a seemingly solid couple.

Aubrey and Grant used sex as a way to forgo talking about the reason for their divorce and don’t fully communicate about their failure until the very end of the book and I am internally eye rolling at this plot device to prolong the inevitable.

Ultimately I thought this book— which takes place within three days— could have been better served as a novella, done with more communication between characters, less sex-focused, and stymie the drama that takes place with Aubrey’s family (I really felt like that went nowhere slowwwly). While everyone in this book, including Grant himself AND Aubrey seem to think Grant is perfect and deserves better, I personally did not perceive Grant as perfect, mostly because I thought it was completely egomaniacal of him to think he deserved better than Aubrey when he would continually (physically) run away and put distance between both of them!

Then Came You was not the worst of the Laws of Attraction trilogy, but the repetitious arguments made it feel like a shrug that caused permanent shoulder damage.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this second-chance romance, because it had a different feel to it than many others. I liked how the author didn’t allow the reader to know precisely what had happened the first time around right away; instead, it unfolded gradually. The slow roll-out of the facts made the actual revelation of what had caused Grant and Aubrey’s break up more of a gut punch. It also gave the reader more of an insight into each of their characters. I loved the juxtaposition of their childhoods (Aubrey’s family is sooo messed up) and thought that the characters remained true to themselves throughout the book. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a smart second-chance romance. 2019 has been treating me so well with new-to-me authors that I absolutely love! Then Came You is my first read from the series and author, and I’m a complete fan. Not going to lie, I was a bit baffled by the low ratings because I loved everything about Aubrey and Grant’s story. Their story definitely packs in a bit of angst as these two work through their past and how they deal with tough situations before they try for a second chance.

When I got this book, I pretty much went in blind and I was quickly swept away into the story. I thought Meader did a great job keeping me hooked the entire time. We know that these two can debate for days since that’s what they constantly do in the courtroom. I’m a sucker for second chance romances and what they endured together completely tore me apart.

It was so evident that the love is still there between them even after a year of being divorced. One of the reasons I love second chance romances so much is because I love seeing the journey the two have to take to be together again. They had a lot to work through and it wasn’t going to be the easy, but they had so much growth not just personally, but together.

I’m definitely going to go back in this series and start from book 1. I loved this book and couple so much, and it has topped as one of my favorites for 2019! It was so emotionally charged and I wasn’t sure how my heart was going to weather through it.

Sincere, steamy, and emotional!

Then Came You is a heartwarming, second-chance romance between the intelligent, handsome Grant and the stubborn, fiery Aubrey as they discover that the heart wants who the heart wants and that some things are definitely worth the fight.

The writing is clear and genuine. The characters are determined, spirited, and troubled. And the plot told from alternating POVs is a heartfelt tale full of familial drama, loss, love, grief, friction, miscommunication, self-reflection, appreciation, acceptance, forgiveness, new beginnings, and searing romance.

Overall, Then Came You is another sweet, playful, sexy read by Meader with characters you can’t help but root for and a swoon-worthy ending that leaves you smitten, satisfied, and hoping for more.

Excellent contemporary romance between two lawyers that have opposite upbringing and views. The blurb gives readers some insight into this story. The author did a great job developing the characters so that they felt real. Also, the story line was well written so that you can feel their struggles, pain and joy. I received a complementary copy via Net Galley and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Meader.

I enjoyed this romance. Aubrey and Grant's relationship was complicated to say the very least. I liked both these characters and I thought that they had great chemistry. Their shared history is filled with pain and heartbreak. but the residual embers of love will not go out. This couple has a lot of baggage that must be dealt with in this second chance romance.

Second chance!

Then Came You is the third book in the Law’s of Attraction series by Kate Meader and it’s a wonderful second chance book!!

Aubrey and Grant were once married, but they divorced over 2 years ago. They are both attorneys and both know how to phrase an argument. The two can’t avoid each other as they argue cases against each other regularly, and they share the same group of friends. Now, Aubrey needs Grant (who wants to win his “wife” back). Aubrey’s grandmother doesn’t know the two lawyers divorced, and she expects them both to attend her 90th birthday party. Grant and Aubrey will be in a car for hours driving from Chicago to Boston. It’s turned out to be convenient for Grant that Aubrey is afraid to fly! It’s a perfect opportunity to review what caused their rift, express their issues and see if they can move forward together!

This book is a journey of life, loss, love and compromise. It is at times heart lifting, and at other times heart wrenching.

I received an ARC of this book courtesy of Net Galley and the publisher. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely.

I enjoy sitting back and reading a book by Kate Meader. She typically has me swooning from the beginning to the end. With this book though, I never really connected to the characters. For me, the plot was barely there. It didn't seem like there was much of one that I caught on too. Then there was the fact that their "issue" was solved over a simple holiday weekend. I felt like it was rushed for the type of "issue" they had. Even with all of that, I finished the book and it was just ok. I still love Kate and I will still read her books. This one just wasn't for me.

4.25 stars--THEN CAME YOU is the third (and final ?) instalment in Kate Meader’s contemporary, adult LAWS OF ATTRACTION erotic, romance series focusing on three friends and law partners: Max Henderson, Lucas Wright and Grant Lincoln. This is formerly married divorce attorneys thirty-one year old Grant Lincoln, and thirty-year old Aubrey Gates’ story line. THEN CAME YOU can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Grant and Aubrey) using present day and memories from the past, THEN CAME YOU focuses on the second chance relationship between formerly married divorce attorneys: thirty-one year old Grant Lincoln, and thirty-year old Aubrey Gates. Over two years earlier Grant and Aubrey’s marriage fell apart, slowly spiralling out of control when grief and loss formed the elephant in the room. Fast forward to present day, wherein Aubrey’s fear of flying finds her former husband Grant Lincoln offering his services to drive from Chicago to Boston for the Thanksgiving holiday, and Aubrey’s Grandmother’s ninetieth birthday. Along with Aubrey’s psychotic cat, Grant and Aubrey trek cross-country while Aubrey refuses to acknowledge the struggles of the past. What ensues is the rebuilding and rekindling relationship between Aubrey and Grant, and the potential fall-out as Aubrey’s detachment and refusal to talk about what happened and why, push Grant, one final time.

Aubrey’s childhood of privilege never included the unconditional love of two adoring parents. Believing herself unworthy, our heroine struggles with what was and what will never be. Grant Lincoln has never stopped loving our story line heroine but convincing Aubrey they are both entitled to a second chance is harder than Grant could have ever imagined.

The relationship between Aubrey and Grant is a rekindling romance between two people whose life together will forever be changed. Aubrey and Grant blame themselves for what happened and why but sometimes there is no explanation for tragedy or loss. Never forgetting about the woman that called to his heart, Grant is hoping that their time together will trigger the love they once shared. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate and seductive, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Aubrey and Grant’s large extended families as well as Aubrey’s mother Marie-Claire, her father Jeffrey and his girlfriend Mercedes, and all-knowing grandmother Libby; Grant’s fellow business partners and attorneys Mac and Charlie (Down With Love #1), Lucas and Trinity (Illegally Yours #2).

THEN CAME YOU is an emotional and heart breaking story of family, friendship, love and loss; of pain and remorse; of second chances and moving on from the past. The premise is impassioned, sensitive and revealing; the romance is realistic and spirited; the characters are charismatic, flawed, and animated. THEN CAME YOU is an introspective on life, loss, acceptance and love.

Beautiful story about finding a way through tragedy

This isn't your typical second chance romance. We're starting the story after the tragedy, after their divorce, but all of that is covered as Aubrey and Grant peel back all the protective layers around their hearts to figure out if they've even got a chance to make things work.

This is a wonderful story about the sacrifices of self necessary to make two people function as one. Highly emotional yet laced with wit and intelligence, this romance will have you believing in true love once again.

As the final book in the series, it also gives us updates on the previous couples and a heartwarming extended epilogue. Very nicely done. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

The third and the last book of the Laws of Attraction series. There were things about this book that I loved and other parts that I just didn't. Normally I'm a sucker for second chance romance and reconciliation, I guess I wasn't in the mood for it I didn't enjoy it as much as I might have. The first half of the book felt a little tedious but once Meader got onto the root of the problem and all the emotion attached to it I enjoyed it more. The switching between the reminiscing flashbacks and present day was a little confusing at times there was no real clear transition. It's told from alternating first person POVs so you get Grant and Aubrey's side of the story. What I did love about the book is that road trip didn't "fix" their relationship, for one, it made them realize how much they still love each other (which is a given in), and two, it forced them to finally open up and talk about the main issue, the reason for their divorce.

I love Grant, he was great, a southern gentleman with a great charm and he loves his mother and little sister. Aubrey was okay at times, it took most of the book for me to warm up to her. Overall, it was a good read. I definitely needed tissue reading this one.

This is the third and last book in the Laws of Attraction series. This one can be read as a stand alone. I found this story did pull at my heartstrings. The story is about Aubrey and Grant. Although I did not read the earlier books they were introduced to us along the way. Sadly I'm not a fan of miscommunications as cause of a divorce I kinda see why they might have drifted apart. They say opposites attract and these two were saw things differently. I really loved these two together and was rooting for them throughout the whole book! . I really enjoy the epilogue. I need to go back and read the previous books, because now I'm curious about the other characters.

Then Came You: A Laws of Attraction Novel
By: Kate Meader

📚💕⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💕📚

You’ll be rooting for them over and over!!!!

I have become a huge fan of this author. She writes with so much intensity and emotion pulled from each book it’s felt page after page. Some are quick witted story lines that are so perfect and lets you believe you have a front row seat. So being able to read this love story didn’t disappoint. The authors ability to have two separate individuals struggling in their everyday life and try to navigate someone else’s thoughts, needs and desires was intense and gives all the fills.

Authors Blurb:Aubrey Gates is the hottest divorce lawyer in Chicago, a barb-tongued stiletto with legs that go on for miles. When her cool gray eyes meet mine across the battlefield, I want her like I’ve never wanted anyone or anything. Then I remember who she is: the woman who brought me to my knees. The woman who destroyed my faith in relationships.

The woman I used to call . . . wife.

And she needs a favor from me, Grant Lincoln.

It seems my ex forgot to mention the demise of our marriage to her dear old grammy, and now we’re both expected to attend her ninetieth birthday party. In Boston. And because it isn’t already awkward enough, Aubrey and I are driving there together from Chicago. That’s more than a thousand miles of tension, heartbreak, and barely concealed lust.

A little piece of paper might say we’re over, but this road trip is the true test. I intend to get my wife back . . . and I won’t stop until “I do.”

Well let me start by saying I really enjoyed this book and it kept me engrossed throughout. I really loved the characters and the way they interacted with each other. This is a fun, hot, romantic must read book and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.

This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.

Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕

When it came to their childhoods Aubrey and Grant couldn’t have been more different. He was raised by his single mother but he always knew he was loved whereas Aubrey was raised in a wealthy family that were more concerned with appearances than anything else. They fell in love when they were college and were happily married until tragedy struck and Grant wanted to comfort Aubrey, but her upbringing wouldn’t let her accept it. After constantly being turned away he saw no other option other than divorce.

A year later Aubrey need to go home for her Grandma’s birthday, but her family doesn’t know that she and Grant are no longer together. Not only does she need Grant to come with her, but she is afraid of flying so they will need to spend hours together in the confines of a car. This will either be their chance to heal from their past or break their hearts once again.

When Aubrey and Grant separated it was not because they didn’t love each other. The chemistry and connection between them is stronger than ever but it will take a lot of patience and determination on Grant’s part to convince Aubrey that not only do they belong together but she is perfect as she is.

I have no words to describe how fabulous this book was. After meeting Grant in book one I knew he would be my favorite. His story is different in that the woman he wants is Aubrey, his ex wife, who he still loves and still loves him. Even though they act indifferent to each other. Once they begin their long car ride/road trip they have the chance to talk and come to terms with what went wrong and how they didn’t really address the issue that broke them up. Their story had me in tears throughout and I just wanted to shove them in a room together til they admitted they still needed/loved/belonged together. Grant and Aubrey were a wonderful and confused couple. The really balanced each other and were the perfect person for the other. The chemistry between them was crazy hot- even when they acted like they didn’t like each other. But that chemistry was never their issue, obviously. Because when they got together I think my kindle may have melted a little, lol. This was the last book in the series and if you enjoyed the others you will not be disappointed. I think the best book was saved for last and I loved both the other books.

My favorite second-chance romances are when it's between a divorced couple, as they try to fix what went wrong in their relationship and find their way back to one another. Grant and Aubrey had a long journey ahead of them, but what starts out as a reluctant road trip (on her part, anyway), turns into a mess of emotions and ultimately a lot of healing and a wonderful reconciliation.

Despite their divorce, Grant and Aubrey still love one another very much. But rather than leaning on one another during one of the most trying times in a couple's life, they drifted apart. The fundamental differences in their backgrounds/family totally helped in how they approached the aftereffects of their miscarriage, and Kate Meader did a great job of painting a picture of a couple suffering a pregnancy loss.

Have some tissues on hand, because if you are emotional like me -- and this subject matter is a trigger of mine, having been through a pregnancy loss myself -- you will need them! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Gah! This book! Actually this entire series! They have each been 5 stars for me, and clearly this author knows how to get to me. I put off reading this book, even though I've had it for quite a while. I have a love/hate relationship with second chance romance, and how it makes me feel. THE ANGST! It's just not my favorite. But, I should have known to trust this author, and her awesome words. This book made me feel so much, and I am so glad I read it.

Aubrey Gates is a mess. She has a complicated, stiff-upper-lip type family, and she is just not very in touch with expressing her emotions. She's a great divorce lawyer, but her own marriage failed when she couldn't open up about a devastating loss. She never told her grandmother, her most beloved and favorite family member, about the divorce, and now Libby's turning 90 over Thanksgiving weekend, and Aubrey has to go back to Boston. But, Aubrey's broken her arm, and can't drive. She also has an older cat who doesn't like to be left alone. And Aubrey's afraid of flying. So, what's a girl to do? Apparently, allow her ex-husband to drive her to Boston from Chicago, and attend her gram's birthday, as if they never split. Surely that will all work out fine, right??

Grant Lincoln is a great divorce lawyer. He is partners with Max and Lucas (the heroes of books 1 & 2, respectively) in their own firm, and he loves his job. He was always top of his class, and the law has always come easy to him. He's from Georgia, but he came to Chicago for law school and never left. He was raised by a teenage single mom, and she loves him fiercely, as he does her. He doesn't understand acting like feelings aren't there, or leaving things unsaid. He never wanted a divorce, but he didn't see any other way. Aubrey was always his dream, and when the hurt was too much, he didn't know what to do, except for let go. It's been 2 years since they first separated, and it has only just started to get a little easier to see her, in the courtroom, or out socially. When the opportunity arises for him to be alone in the car with her, and her crazy cat, for 3 days, he jumps at it. He just knows with a little time, and forced proximity, he can make her see that they can still heal things.

Grant and Aubrey's loss weighed heavily on me, as I've had a pregnancy loss myself. It was early on, but it still hurts, just as theirs did. But, they had different ways of dealing with their grief. And they both felt guilt over the loss, and if there was something they could've done differently to prevent it. They didn't know how to be around the other, and Grant wanted to talk through it, and go to counseling, while Aubrey wanted to act like it never happened. Neither of them could participate in the other's process the way they wanted to, due to the differences, and finally it caused them to break. Aubrey always felt she didn't deserve Grant, and their loss just seemed to reinforce that idea for her. Grant only ever wanted Aubrey, and when she pulled away emotionally after the miscarriage, he kept trying to reel her back in, only to feel her slipping through his fingers. Finally, he wanted to stop more pain for her, so he walked away.

Grant and Aubrey still had chemistry like whoa (that was never their problem), and watching them reconnect was bittersweet. They really needed to be talking, but sex opened up their emotional connection again, which led to some big revelations. Their connection was hard to deny, and when they finally opened up fully, some things were revealed that hurt them even more, but healed them too. I loved watching them come back together, even when it hurt.

Aubrey's family was a hot mess. Her mother cold, her father a serial philanderer, her older brothers entitled brats. But her grandmother was her saving grace growing up, and still is. Grant's mother was his biggest supporter, and raised him alone. When she finally met and married her husband, and had a daughter, now 8, Grant was thrilled to have her settled and happy. Grant and Aubrey were both a product of their environment growing up, good and bad. They loved each other so much, and that sometimes led to them making choices for the other, thinking they were doing what was best. They really had to find a way to be completely honest and open with each other, to blow everything up, before it could get better. It was painful to witness, but there were some magic moments too, and I loved it so much.

While this story was painful, it was also sweet, and sexy, and fulfilling. I laughed, and cried, and sighed, and felt ALL THE FEELS. Kate Meader always brings me all the feels, and I'll never put off reading one of her books again! I highly recommend this entire series. Each book was different, but at their heart, they were the same, and I adored them all.

Loved, loved, loved! Grant and Aubrey's story hit all the emotional buttons. For these two high powered attorneys not only is divorce their profession but it's what they are personally. They hold no punches in the courtroom but in private communication is a real problem. It's clear that the fire between them still burns brightly but they have no idea how to get back what they once had. I thought the author did a great job of keeping their story light and fun while dealing with some pretty heavy baggage from their past. A hilarious road trip, a meddling grandmother, and a crazy cat is enough to drive these two together and force them to deal with each other. You will want to read this one to see exactly how things work out. I definitely recommend it.
