I would give this book ALL OF THE STARS if I could. I went on a roller coaster of emotions, and I will probably be thinking about it for weeks. It was raw. It was thrilling. It was twisted AF. But at the end, I was feeling drained, sad, hopeful, scared, and buzzed... ALL AT THE SAME TIME. Riley Sager’s best work. This is my favorite book I’ve read ALL YEAR.

I thought I knew where this book was going, and I was enjoying the ride, and then -BAM- that last hundred pages.

Could have finished this in three days if life hadn't gotten in the way. A great summer read!

Wow! It has been a long time since I have read a thriller this good! Well, actually since Final Girls. This book was so captivating. I literally could not put this book down. This is a must read. I love the twists that Riley Sager throws in his books, and this one did not disappoint. Highly recommended. The characters were captivating, the story line was well written, and the twists and turns kept me going. I hope that he releases another book soon because he is my favorite author! This book is built around the characteristics of a "haunted" building in New York. The manager of the building places ads in local newspapers to pay apartment sitters a substantial amount of money for 3 months. When Jules answers the ad, she suspects she hit the lottery. The apartment she is sitting for is a dream come true from a novel her and her sister used to read. There are rules to house sitting though: no visitors, no spending the night away from the apartment, and no disturbing the other residents. Although Jules may think this is a golden opportunity, she soon realizes that there is more hidden within the building than she could ever imagine. When she discovers apartment sitters keep missing, she dives into an investigation that will lead to a surprise ending!

After losing her job and her live-in boyfriend in one day, Jules feels like a lost soul. Crashing on her best friend's couch, she can't believe she has come so low so quickly.

She is determined to get back on her feet, whatever it takes, and just like that an opportunity falls in her lap. Well, not literally, she actually finds opportunity in the classifieds section. Apartment Sitter Wanted.

The Bartholomew is one of the most prestigious apartment buildings in New York City and Jules cannot believe they actually want to interview her for the appointment. Upon seeing the apartment, she absolutely cannot believe her luck. Pristine living quarters, breathtaking views and a handsome next-door neighbor.

$12,000 to live in the apartment for 3-months. Other requirements? Really none besides the fact that she isn't allowed any visitors, she cannot spend a night away and she absolutely cannot hassle the other tenants.

Her best friend, Chloe, tries to warn her off. If it seems too good to be true it probably is but as Jules sees it, what option does she have? So, she moves in.

Guys, I freaking loved this book so much! I cannot even describe to you how much fun this was for me to read. It basically has everything I love. Sager's writing draws you in and the atmosphere is always intense. The setting of the Bartholomew was absolutely brilliant. The history surrounding the building, the other tenants, the odd rules...

There were scenes, reading late into the night, when I was legit terrified. Ultimately, it went in a direction I never would have predicted and it is bizarre and so flipping good. Let's just say, Hitchcock would be impressed.

Thank you so much, PENGUIN GROUP Dutton, for providing me with a copy to read and review. I cannot even express my level of gratitude. This was my most anticipated thriller of 2019 and it did not disappoint for a moment. I loved every minute of reading this and will pick up anything Sager ever chooses to have published!

Let’s just say this book is great, not amazingly great, but great. Lock Every Door by Riley Sager is an engaging page-turner of a thriller that had me guessing until the very end — which was not at all what I was expecting!

Jules Larsen is broke, sadly single after her boyfriend cheated on her, and out a job. With no work in sight, the opportunity of a lifetime falls into her lap. She is offered to apartment sit at one of the most famous, and yet mysterious buildings in New York City — the Bartholomew.

Not only is she living the high life in a fancy apartment, she is getting paid $12,000 under the table to do so. While staying at the Bartholomew, she soon befriends another apartment sitter. Within a day, that fellow sitter goes missing. Unable to let it go, Jules begins to discover the creepy stories that are whispered about the Bartholomew could be more that just stories!

I honestly couldn’t put this book down. I desperately wanted to find out what this building was hiding. With all the creepy back-story details on deaths and mysterious vanishing tenants, this book almost felt like The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer: My Life at Rose Red by Ridley Pearson. It certainly gave me the creeps…that was until the bloody ending! I’m not going to ruin it, but let’s just say this book would have been five stars if it weren’t for the ending!

Putting the ridiculously strange ending aside, this book was extremely addictive. From the pace, to the quirky cast of characters, even the dark atmosphere of the hotel’s Gothic features and old money captivated me from start to finish!

I really enjoyed how the narration varied between the present and Jules’ arrival at the Bartholomew a few days earlier. It was so strategic of Sager to give us glimpses into what will happen without giving too much away.

I absolutely adored Riley Sager’s other two books Final Girls and The Last Time I Lied. It’s not to say I didn’t love this book, but again this ending really missed the mark for me! If you enjoy thrillers with a wee bit of a crazy ending, Lock Every Door by Riley Sager is the book for you!

Thank you to NetGalley, Dutton and Riley Sager for an ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

Riley Sager has done it again, another thriller that keeps you guessing with twists and turns you can't put down.

What a sinister, twisty thriller Lock Every Door is! This book has such an interesting premise and it drew me in straight away. Our main heroine, Jules, gets an apartment-sitting gig in one of the most prestigious buildings in Manhattan, the Bartholomew. The job pays a lot and the apartment is luxurious but there are a lot of strict rules to follow. Also, the residents of the Bartholomew are very secretive and the building has a tragic history. Jules thinks that she landed the best paying gig until she spends some time in the place and realizes that strange things are happening in the building.

After a fellow apartment-sitter, Ingrid, disappears under suspicious circumstances and no one in the building is concerned about it, Jules starts to dig into the Bartholomew's sinister history and it's inhabitants. The more she uncovers, the more dangerous her investigation becomes. I was very engrossed in the story and kept compulsively turning pages because I wanted to know what the hell was going in the Bartholomew. I thought I knew what was happening but I was very wrong. I did not predict the twist, it was brilliant and unexpected, and also very satisfying. I highly recommend this book to any suspense and mystery readers.

Ladies and gentlemen, he’s done it again.

I’m pretty sure all of you know that I’m a Riley Sager super fan so this book has been on my radar FOREVER.

First of all, Sager’s writing just SUCKS me in. With all of his novels (okay, just the three...) I was captivated by page 10. This was no exception. The synopsis already intrigued me, but once I got into the first couple of chapters-I couldn’t put it down.

The characters were obvious yet still mysterious. I wanted to shake Jules (the main character) and yell DUDE, RUN! As for the others, you know they’re all playing a part- you just don’t know what it is.

Now on to the plot- as in all Sager books expect a major plot twist. So again, you know it’s coming and everything ‘clicks’ and you’re left thinking ‘HOW DID I MISS THAT!?’ But then within the last couple of chapters everything is explained and it makes so much more sense than your original theory.

The premise of this one infuriated me. Like seriously how the hell could they get away with that for so long!? At the end, I totally backed Jules decisions.

It’s also the first of Sager’s three books that felt ‘real’ to me. Like Final Girls and The Last Time I Lied was of course thrilling and suspenseful, but Lock Every Door actually gave me chills.

So The Last Time I Lied is still my favorite, but Lock Every Door is great and an awesome read.

Would you apartment sit for $12k in an iconic, exclusive apartment building overlooking Central Park in NYC?

Rules: Three months. No visitors. No questions. No bothering or talking about the residents. No photos of the interior. No nights away from the apartment.

I mean, sure, the place is kinda creepy and the previous sitter mysteriously died, but you’re a single broke female in need of some cash! What could possibly go awry.

As a Sager virgin, forgive me for feeling the need to talk about the phenomenal writing and research in this book. This was such an enticing and well-paced story; easily a one-sitting read. I was unbelievably spooked and on edge the entire time, especially once it started going in the direction of storylines I normally avoid like the plague. So when the big twist was coming I braced myself thinking, “IT’S HAPPENING”, but it ended up being almost shockingly logical, even in its total absurdity. You’ll just have to read it to know what I mean, because the whole thing is so worth it.

Creepy, twisty, well-constructed, and exactly what I was in the mood for.

As I said in the title, this was bananas in the best possible way. I started reading to this book and could not stop. I read it in two days. The only reason I had to stop was to sleep. I liked Final Girls, but this was different. You know something strange is going on, and then you head in one direction that seems very odd, and then, boom. You are going in a completely different direction! I really enjoyed this listen. I thought the author did a great job, he brought you into the story and made you believe it. I would read this one again, and will recommend it to all my friends.

First line: Ginny gazed up at the building, her feet planted firmly on the sidewalk but her heart as wide and churning as the sea.

Summary: The rules at the Bartholomew are strict. No visitors. You must spend every night in the apartment. And no disturbing the other residents. Jules believes that even though the rules a little ridiculous they are worth the large sum of money she will receive as an apartment sitter. After losing her job, her boyfriend and her apartment she is desperate for a new start.

Shortly after she moves into the apartment she meets a fellow sitter, Ingrid. But when Ingrid mysteriously disappears in the middle of the night, Jules decides to do some digging into why and try to discover what is going on at the Bartholomew. In her research she learns about the dark past of the building and some of its former residents. With this new knowledge she is determined to get out before she meets the same fate as Ingrid.

My Thoughts: Riley Sager has become one of my favorite thriller writers. This is his third book and it was fantastic. The suspense and mystery are perfectly blended. I was easily creeped out in the first couple of chapters. I mean who wouldn’t be tempted by a high paying job as an apartment sitter? But once strange things start happening? Nope. I’m out.

I did find the middle of the story a little slow. It seemed to stretch out a little too much as Jules looks into the residents and the history of the building. I assume that Sager was just trying to give us some more little clues or hinting at the sinister past but it seemed to be rather overdone.

And holy cow! The last few chapters are great! My heart was beating so fast and I could not read fast enough. As I finished it I was on an adrenaline high and had to start another book in order to calm down a bit for bed. Read this. It is worth it.

FYI: Sager’s first two novels, Final Girls and The Last Time I Lied, are just as thrilling.

I haven’t been gripped by a book in such a long time. The Bartholomew felt like such a real place to me and I got thoroughly creeped out. I loved the characters too. I devoured this one and it solidified Sager as one of my favorite authors. I will buy whatever he writes and I can’t wait to see this turned into a TV show! This book 😱

I have been eagerly waiting for the next Riley Sager book after falling in love with The Last Time I Lied last summer, and this did not disappoint!

From the first page, the author sucked me in and I had to know how it ended. The story follows Jules, who is down on her luck and desperate, and falls in to the job of a lifetime as an apartment sitter at the notorious Bartholomew building. Things happen there, but is it folklore, or is something sinister happening? That’s what Jules sets to find out.

This book was fast paced and left me wanting more. If you need a edge-of-your seat thriller, look no further! 5/5 ⭐️

This was my first Riley Sager read, and it certainly didn't disappoint! A creepy historic building with an even creepier history that slowly unravels makes for an excellent thriller. The pacing was spot on, keeping me on the edge of my seat and finishing this book in record time. For anyone wanting an apartment sitting gone wrong story, get your hands on this title ASAP!

Riley Sager has done it again! I have loved his previous two books, and this one held up to my internal hype. I stayed up late reading because I just could not put it down!
We follow Jules, a twenty something who is down on her luck, as she scores a too good to be true apartment sitting job. At first her time at the infamous Bartholomew building is like a dream come true. She has a doorman, a penthouse apartment with a view of Central Park, and a nice payday at the end of each week for keeping watch over the apartment, but as Jules meets more of her neighbors, and dives into the buildings history, she learns that not everything is as glamorous as it seems.
If you love psyhcological thrillers, you need to read Riley Sager. In my opinion he is one of the top thriller writers in both quality of writing & storytelling.

This was almost a 5 star book for me. I thought it took a little longer than necessary to get to the "meat" of the book, but otherwise, it's excellent. I won't summarize it as you can easily get that elsewhere, but just know that this is not your typical thriller. I had so many theories throughout the book as to where this book was going...and they were all wrong. Never in a million years would I have predicted this plot. Kept me guessing and kept me interested. Definitely recommend for the lover of a good thriller book.

Lock Every Door felt a little like a trip inside a Hitchcock story. It has a haunting atmosphere and a steadily rising tension that kept me turning those pages to see where it would all go. It's a slow burn story, and so many seemingly innocuous things happen that it's easy to slip into a comfortable, easy feeling. Then, we go back to present day and Jules' circumstances snap us back into that feeling of unease, of guessing what led to those circumstances. Now, here's where I tell you that I'm hard to get. I usually see the big reveal coming at least in part. Not this time. Not even an inkling. And I hate to admit it, but there were hints. It's one of those hindsight things. It was all crystal clear once I knew the secret. There were so many way this one could have gone, and I thought I had guessed all of them. Nope, that reveal sneaked right up on me. I love it when that happens! All in all, this one is another great read from Riley Sager. It's atmospheric, filled with creepy characters, and the more you read, the faster you want to read.

Wow! That definitely took an unexpected turn in the last 25% or so, that actually shocked me. He really did set things up, all the clues were there, but that was a bizarre twist. I enjoyed the narration of the audio book version and Sager has improved in his writing since 'Final Girls.' This story has a more sympathetic protagonist and is eerie and chilling in the sense that it's bizarre, but not completely far-fetched. I'm not going to say anything else, because I don't want to spoil anything. Highly recommended for fans of the author's past works and just fans of well plotted thrillers, with fresh twists. I'm excited to see where Sager's novels go in the future. Thank you to the publisher for giving me an e-ARC for review through NetGalley. All opinions are my own!

Slow burn physiological mystery that has Hitchcock/The Shining -like vibes to it. A great beach read!

Review: 4.5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Sager quickly piqued my interest—and ratcheted up the creepy factor—with his first book, The Last Time I Lied. And I’m happy to report that Lock Every Door was just as eerily delicious. This one kept me guessing until the very end. It was unpredictable, dark, a little sexy, very mysterious, and it had a surprising—and twisted—big reveal at the end that left me more than a bit unsettled. Good, creepy, fun.
