A twisty book that didn't stick with me, but still fun. I did enjoy reading it because I could discuss with lots of other people. Riley Sager seems to be a favorite of a lot of my friends in book club!
Hold on to your seat for an amazing ride!!
Lock Every Door is a great novel. I could not put it down until the very end. Great storyline with well-crafted characters made you feel as if you actually knew them in real life.
In the novel, Jules is apartment sitting in one of the most prestigious buildings in NYC. Lots of rules. One thing is certain, it also holds secrets and a killer. Will she survive? You have to read it to find out. Trust me you will want to read this book!!
I always enjoy this author's books. In this one, a young woman at a loose end answers an ad for an apartment sitter in what turns out to be a truly exclusive building in Manhattan. It turns out there is a reason that the building is so exclusive. She starts doing research into the odd events that have happened in the building. I don't want to give anything away. This is an excellent mystery / thriller. I definitely recommend it.
I haven't been a fan of thrillers since I was a teenager, but that may have changed now. Lock Every Door revolves around the Bartholomew, an infamous Manhattan apartment building that has always been exclusive. Jules, newly unemployed and dealing with leaving her cheating boyfriend (and apartment), has landed the perfect job- apartment sitter at this well-known location. All she has to do is follow a few rules. I'm telling you this book kept me riveted. It was a perfect read for October.
This is a hard one for me to rate. Overall, I would say I enjoyed the book. But I had a few issues with it. First, it took me FOREVER to read. I think because it took a while for me to be fully invested. I kept just waiting for something interesting to happen. Then interesting things started happening and I was interested. Then it started going in a direction I was excited about…oh wait…nope, let’s go here instead. I think that’s what ruined it for me. I was excited about where it was going and then it went somewhere else that didn’t excite me. If it had just led there first, I might have enjoyed it more. I didn’t hate the way it ended up, but switching things up from something I was digging took me out of it.
Riley Sager is a great writer and I have loved his other books. This one was definitely my least favorite. But I will continue to read his books!
Jules is practically destitute when she agrees to move into the Bartholomew. One of the most prestigious buildings in the city, it's also one of the most secret and elite. However, she needs the money and so she follows the rules--No Guests, No leaving Overnight, No contact with the guests.
However, she starts realizing that there are other things at work, especially when another apartment sitter contacts her. When that sitter, Ingrid, disappears, Jules realizes something more sinister is at work--but can she get out of the building without dying?
Very reminiscent of Ira Levin. A very quick read.
I devoured this one in two sittings! I couldn't put it down. I had read Riley Sager's other work and had high hopes going in and this one didn't disappoint. It may seem like your standard haunted/creepy house story - and it is - but Sager adds in other elements to make it unlike anything I've read before.
Jules finds herself drawn to the Bartholomew for a house sitting gig that is too good to pass up. Soon she accepts the gig and begins to make friends with another resident, Ingrid. When Ingrid goes missing, maybe she should have payed attention to the instinct that this gig was too good to be true. As she races to find out what really happens, Sager expertly ramps up the adrenaline and creepiness, that delivers to the very last page
Such a great thriller! I was on the edge of my seat for most of this story. It was so good! Riley Sager is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors!
Not where I thought this book was headed but I was here for it. Did I guess that creepy AF ending??? No way!!
After trying and trying with Riley Sager, I think that I can finally say that , sadly, the books aren't for me. Thrillers tend to be my least favorite genre, just because of the predictability and monotony of the majority of the plots. They are all so similar and easy to see what is coming, and even when I haven't guessed the "twist," the reveal tends to fall flat for me. Lock Every Door is about a young woman, Jules, who has gotten a new job as a apartment sitter for an old distinguished apartment building in New York. When a fellow apartment sitter disappears, Jules tries to discover the truth about the building and what has happened to her friend. This was an entertaining read, but I don't see myself picking up anymore Sager thrillers in the near future.
Love love loooooved. Seriously one of my favorites from Riley Sager. It could make an excellent TV series. It was so creepy and the setting was wonderful.
Love Riley Sager and I appreciate you giving me the change to review this book! He is always an auto buy for me and I really enjoyed this overall. Looking forward to the next one!
Wow! This is one of the few books that sucked me in this year! As someone who lives in New York City, I wonder how far off this book really is! I assume the Bartholomew is actually fine, but there are plenty of buildings here that have super strict and sometimes strange rules. It's chilling to imagine the horrors that could go on behind closed doors. This was my first Sager novel, and I definitely will be finding more! It's so good!
The dedication page reads: To Ira Levin. And this thrilling novel is like a twist on "Rosemary's Baby."
Set in a fabled building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, the plot initially seems as though it's along the lines of "666 Park Avenue." It's actually reminiscent of an award-winning British film from the early aughts.
With this third novel, the versatile author (whose stories are so different, yet haunting!) firmly cements himself as the King of Psychological Horror.
It's hands down the best mystery/thriller of 2019 through mid-summer — and my favorite of Riley Sager's books, to date. (I was an instant fan when I read an advance copy of his debut novel.)
Make this firecracker your summer holiday No. 1 read. It's a scorcher!
Jules lost her job, caught her boyfriend cheating on her and is forced to sleep on her best friends couch.
When a job opportunity presents itself, she jumps at the chance and finds herself as an apartment sitter in a posh, exclusive apartment complex. The opportunity seems too good to be true but Jules is desperate and quickly finds herself a a "resident" of the Bartholomew. She has a list of what she can and cannot done. The list is peculiar but she needs the money and is determined to get back on her feet.
Jules quickly finds out that the Bartholomew has sinister history behind it and the residents are not exactly "normal" despite this she makes a friend but when that friend goes missing she makes it her mission to figure out exactly what is going on but it's riskier than she ever imagined.
This book is creepy and addictive. Expect to stay up all night finishing this read. You won't be disappointed.
Not my favorite by this author but still very good. The first 2/3 especially is quite scary/creepy. I just didn't think the twist was that great.
I quite enjoyed this one! It was quite twisted and like all of Riley Sager's books I found myself holding my breathe or on the edge of my seat. Jules was feeling desperate and desperation makes you ignore red flags. i thought this was well done, I thought I had it figured out and bam, i was second guessing myself. I don't want to spoil the book for anyone but I will say if something seems to good to be true it probably is. Riley Sager is an auto buy author for me and i will always anticipate his next release. Brilliant writer, keep em coming!
my first five star book of the year! i had very high expectations from all the reviews i saw and recommendations i got. all expectations were met! i wish i didn’t wait so long to read this! it was the perfect creepy thriller read. honestly though, it really did creep me out and the twist at the end. was NOT expecting that. highly recommend!
This novel was so creepy and suspenseful! I thoroughly enjoyed it and have recommended it to several fellow readers. Riley Sager has became a new favorite author of mine.
Lock every door was pretty good. It was definitely not predictable, which is great! I just didn’t feel a huge connection with the characters which is always a problem for me!
