⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️— Lock Every Door by Riley Sager— Out JULY 2

Thank you to Dutton and Netgalley for a copy of this ebook!

Jules is at rock bottom. Lost her job, her boyfriend and she’s sleeping on her best friend’s couch. She also has less than $500 to her name. But then an ad for a apt sitter comes to her attention in a famous building from her fav book. And it pays $1000 a week. Her best friend things it’s too good to be true...

What I loved: the plot in general. I thought Sager did a great job of pulling in the history for this old building and relating it to the plot. Loved the dynamics of the people living in the building. Each one played their own role and had a different importance to the book! The alternating timelines went from 6 days before til now, so it was not a long stretch and Sager’s writing keeps the pace fast and moving!

What I didn’t love: Jules’ decision making at times. <— can’t say anything more. But mostly, how the Ingrid plot line played out. Again, can’t say why!

Read this if you like Riley Sager! He is def consistent, but not in anyway formulaic which I love. Definitely an auto read author for me!

A really good thriller with an interesting twist. It reminded me of the movie 'A Cure for Wellness.' I prefer the author's other books more, but this was still excellent over all.

I was fascinated following along even though I wasn’t sure where the book was headed and it paid off big! This is definitely going to be a summer blockbuster. Loved every page. Now go make it into a movie!! Please!!

Another great tale of mystery and suspense by Riley Sager! Just when I thought it was going in one direction, "Lock Every Door" would go in another.

Jules can't believe her good luck when she finds a job "apartment sitting" at the Bartholomew and will get paid $4,000 a month for 3 months to do it. She is down on her luck and between jobs, so she jumps at the chance to interview for the position. She is so excited that she ignores big red flags that her best friend Chloe keeps warning her about, like the fact that she can't leave the apartment at night, and she isn't allowed any visitors. Then Jules meets Ingrid, a neighbor she becomes friendly with, who tells her the dark history of the Bartholomew. At first she tells herself she didn't believe in ghost stories, but when Ingrid goes missing the next night, Jules is determined to find out what happened to Ingrid and rescue her. Lock Every Door is a page turner you're not going to want to put down until the last page.

Riley Sager writes great thrillers. This is something that I feel confident in saying. This novel is no different. Full of creepy occurrences, mystery, and a disturbing twist, this is one of my favorite titles of the year! This story didn't go where I thought it would; it was original and I do not have a solid book comparison. I recommend not reading too much on this book and just start it! Once you begin, you won't be able to stop....

Riley Sager has done it again!

I DEVOURED this book. Less than 24 hours. I could not put it down. Right away, I was sucked in to the interesting idea of getting paid to be an apartment-sitter. There has to be a catch, right?

Jules Larsen has been down on her luck for... well, it seems like forever. After losing her parents and sister as a teenager, Jules has been struggling to get her life together. While other bad-luck things are going on in Jules' life, she comes across an ad to be an apartment-sitter for a whopping $4,000 a month. Who could pass up an opportunity like that?! Jules goes through the interview process and is offered the job of apartment-sitter for 12A at the Bartholomew in NYC. Sure, the rules seem a little extreme, like no visitors. Ever... but Ms. Evelyn assures her the rich tenants just prefer their privacy and quiet.

As Jules begins her stay in the apartment, she starts to think things are a little strange. She is hearing noises, sees strange things in the wall paper, and oddly enough, none of the other residents want to reveal anything about the past of the building. As the days go by, Jules digs deeper into what everyone is so hush-hush about. Is the building's past really that horrible, or do the residents just REALLY like their privacy and to not be bothered?

I loved that I had a strong emotional connection to the majority of the characters, despite whether it was love or hate. I also thought this was a unique take for a story line. Typically, thrillers follow a pretty similar formula and are sometimes predictable. While I did have some inklings about what was happening and/or who was involved, I had no idea the reasons or connections behind it. The chapters were on the shorter side, which for me, always means I read more than I intend to in one sitting. "Just one more chapter..." This book also had just enough of a cliff-hanger at the end of each chapter to make it nearly impossible to put the book down and take a break. Great writing, great style, amazing and unpredictable twists.

A fast-paced, intense, page-turning thriller, this is by far Sager's best work yet. 5 stars

I was not able to guess the ending and I was freaked out the entire time because I could feel that there was a huge demented secret right around the corner!

I was so excited to receive an ARC for Riley Sager's 3rd novel. I enjoyed the first two and this one did not disappoint! I don't want to give anything away since the book doesn't hit shelves until July 2, but if you enjoy a fun thriller then plan to grab a copy for some fun summer reading!

This is the first book by Riley Sager that I have and t will absolutely not be the last. I loved this book. The story had me hooked from the beginning and I literally couldn't put it down. I read in 24 hours because I had to know how it ended immediately and it did not disappoint. It met everything I love about suspense thrillers and had me guessing all the way to the end. I loved the main character Jules, and thought she was extremely relatable so I was able to connect with the story she was going through. I would highly recommend this book if you are wanting something suspenseful and has a great twist at the end.

"No visitors. No nights spent away from the apartment. No disturbing the other residents, all of whom are rich or famous or both. These are the only rules for Jules Larsen’s new job as an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew, one of Manhattan’s most high-profile and mysterious buildings."

Sounds simple, right? What could possibly go wrong?

Thankfully, quite a bit. This is a compulsively readable novel from Riley Sager, a favourite of mine since his debut, Final Girls, which was such a fresh take on the typical ‘slasher’ that I almost cheered when I read it. When authors can take a trope and make it feel as if you’re discovering it for the first time – that, my dear friends, is talent.

Although I always hesitate to pronounce any book the author’s “best yet”, well… I might make an exception? Because Lock Every Door was just so deliciously addictive.

As you can see from the blurb above, our heroine Jules Larsen has taken a new job as an “apartment sitter” in the Bartholomew, a fancy-schmancy building in one of Manhattan’s most coveted neighborhoods. Adding to the building’s appeal is is that it was the setting for one of Jules' favourite childhood books, Heart of a Dreamer, a book she shared with her sister before she disappeared eight years before.

As you can imagine, Jules is pretty excited to be standing in the pages of a book she loves so much – and to feel some connection to her beloved sister, so she takes the job without much introspection – even agreeing to the arcane rules – such as “no visitors” and “no talking to the other residents”.

Jules becomes close with another apartment-sitter, Ingrid. Ingrid isn’t quite so warm and fuzzy about the Bartholomew, and spills her worries about the building’s dark past, and what might be going on in the present. When Ingrid vanishes in the night, leaving only an echo of a scream, Jules feels compelled to find her, and sets out to do her own research into the Bartholomew, its residents, and what secrets the walls might be hiding.

At its heart, this is a story about relationships – between sisters, between friends, strangers, lovers, killers and victims, to buildings and to fantasies, between our bodies and our hearts. The connections between those things, between us and our past, between privilege and poverty – it’s all so tenuous but can feel so bloodied.

This is a wild ride, and you should let Sager take you on it. He knows exactly what he’s doing. I had absolutely no idea what the denouement would bring, and was that ever a treat.

One of the best thrillers of the year, no doubt. Enjoy.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. I appreciate it!

Absolutely blown away by Lock Every Door! Riley Sager’s novel tells the story of the Bartholomew, a haunted, yet revered apartment building right on the edge of Central Park in NYC. Jules is hitting a rough point in her life – no money, no job, had to move out of her boyfriend’s apartment when they broke up. But she finds the deal of a lifetime when an apartment in the Bartholomew is looking for an apartment sitter for 12 weeks at $1000/week. Jules can’t turn it down! But almost immediately she finds out that things within the Bartholomew aren’t what they seem.

I flew through this book. Riley’s writing had me dying to come back for more, and I was thinking about this book constantly after reading it. The apartment building was spooky, and written just so. I also wasn’t able to predict the ending, which I really liked about it as well. This was easily four stars for me – great book!

I have not been disappointed when I pick up a Riley Sager book. You open it and are strapped down for a great ride. The characters are great in this story but they take a backseat to the main character, the Bartholomew . It is described in such detail that you feel as if you are there. From it's dumbwaiter to it's creepy wallpaper and it's gargoyles, it takes center stage.

If something is too good to be true, it usually is and Jules will find out the hard way. Getting a job to be an apartment sitter and being paid very nicely is a dream. (More like a nightmare) What happened to all the sitters before her?

I felt a Rosemary's Baby vibe with the story. There are some interesting people lulling about this building. I loved how the story was told to us in five days time. It added to the suspense with it's past and present take.

Another winner from Riley Sager. He is the stuff nightmares are made of.

Thanks to Netgalley and Penguin for an advance copy of this book. Make sure you pick it up when it comes out in July.

I am so glad I got to read an early copy!
I have never read a Riley Sager book so I knew nothing of what a book of his might entail.
This was nuts! The Bartholomew is NOT a place I'd ever want to live. Right up front, there are too many rules that lead to too many secrets needing to be uncovered. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and it didn't even cross my mind the twisted way it went! So creepy, such good writing and a very suspenseful plot!

Loved this book!!! Riley Sager always writes complex female characters and this book is no different! The twists always leave me surprised and I consider myself to be quite the armchair detective. The pacing and suspense buildup were wonderful and I had to stop myself from reading it well into the night. If you're looking for a well-written thriller this summer, this is it!

Thanks to NetGalley and Dutton Publishers for the digital ARC of this book! Publish date is 7/2/19.

Jules is at a low point in her life. She lost her job and boyfriend on the same day and she’s totally broke. So when she lands a high-paying job as an apartment sitter at the Bartholomew, a historic building that’s home to the elite, she doesn’t really think twice. Happenings in the building get more and more suspicious and nerve racking. Especially when her new friend and fellow apartment sitter disappears. Now Jules is determined to find out the truth about the rumors she’s heard about the Bartholomew. After all, don’t they say that if something seems too good to be true it probably is?

This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2019 and I was most definitely not disappointed! It was suspenseful, eerie, sinister and I never could’ve predicted the ending. I can’t say much more than that you’ve got to read this book!

Lock Every Door was absolutely wild! I thought that Riley Sager took the cake with The Last Time I Lied, but this book was even twist-ier and intense.

Jules is desperately in need of a place to live and money to live off of. After a bad breakup and losing her job, she accepts a job apartment sitting in a posh NYC apartment building with a ton of rules. Things seem amiss as other apartment sitters begin to go missing, and Jules is racing against the clock to save herself and others.

This pageturner is a first purchase for adult collections where Sager's previous titles have been popular or where there is a demand for thrillers. Sager has a knack for fast-paced, quick reads that satisfy.
