Fans of the Pancake House Mystery Series will welcome Crêpe Expectations, where protagonist Marley McKinney and her chef, Ivan, sit in as judges for an annual Wildwood Cove amateur chef competition where some of the judges are getting mysteriously sick. Besides that, Marley visits a Victorian mansion that is being landscaped by her boyfriend and discovers a skeleton that ends up belonging to a girl who disappeared during a party over 10 years prior. Because there is evidence near the body that is connected to one of Marley’s friends, Marley gets involved in trying to solve the murder. There are plenty of suspects, and Marley, as usual, gets into a bit of trouble when questioning them. The romance between Marley and live-in boyfriend Brett is alive and well, and since Marley gets herself into several scrapes and dangerous situations, it’s a good thing Brett is around.
Crêpe Expectations is a fun, well-written culinary mystery, and is the fifth installment in the series. It includes mouthwatering unique recipes, and plenty of references to food. This is a nice series for food lovers, and the twists and turns keep readers guessing who the real murderer is and wondering if some of the main characters could have gone to the other side. The ending is, as usual a surprise, and the characters who are regulars and old friends in the series are fun to read about.
Culinary mystery aficionados will enjoy this series, and especially this novel. Since it contains no graphic, sex, violence, or language, it’s suitable for mystery lovers of all ages. It is a light read and since it’s not very long, it can be read on an airplane trip or a sit on the beach. Definitely recommended for cozy lovers.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
This was a great story that I could not put down. it has a winning cast of characters featuring Marley McKinney, a compelling plot and a beautiful setting in the Olympic peninsula. Most of all it has delicious food - don't read this book when you are hungry because the descriptions of the breakfast food at The Flip Side - including marzipan pancakes, blueberry crumble pancakes and bacon cheddar waffles will have your mouth watering. Marley has gone to visit her boyfriend Brett Collins who is landscaping the new village inn when they find a kitten running away. They chase after the kitten and when Marley falls down, she uncovers a dead body. The body turns out to be that of Demetra Kozani, a classmate and nemesis of Brett's sister Chloe who has been missing for many years. There is a plethora of suspects and the unsolved mystery preys on Marley's mind and gets her involved in finding closure. This is a multi-layered mystery, also featuring an amateur chef cook-off, a family puzzle and, oh yes, the delicious food. I loved it!
Another great storyline by Sarah Fox.
This is the sixth book with Marley’s pancake house and just as good as the first.
After finding a body of a eighteenth year old girl what went missing 10 years ago,Marley with the help of boyfriend Brett starts to investigate,
By doing this she stars to upset some of the residents in the town.
I loved this book with plenty of suspects to keep you hooked.
Thanks to the publisher and Nettgalley for letting me review this book . My thoughts are my own.
A real page turner that will keep you following the clues to solve a ten year old murder. The characters will make you wonder who and why. Lots of twists that will keep you guessing.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book.
As always with cozy mystery, it's not hard to pick one up at any point in the series and enjoy it. This was the case here; I instantly felt at home with the characters and the setting despite only having read one other in this series. I liked the main character, which is always a plus. The mystery itself reminded me of one I'd read a few months back, but then with the sheer amount of cozies I read that in itself isn't surprising. I still enjoyed the eventual conclusion, the sleuthing and the romance in the mean time.
This is yet another excellent themed cozy- if you're looking for your first or hundred and first book in this genre it's a great pick. Four stars.
Marley and Brett find a skull in the woods. Once again while Marley says she is going to stay out of it, she becomes involved. (Wouldn't be much of a cozy mystery if she didn't). Someone also is suspected of making folks sick at the amateur chef competition so Marley gets involved in that as well. This series is always a fast and fun read, with recipes in the back regarding the crepes that are mentioned in the book.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review. - This is the one food cozy series I read.
In this latest installment of the Pancake House mysteries, we find Marley embroiled in an years' old mystery when she and her boyfriend Brett find a skeleton in the woods behind the inn where he is working. This leads to Marley investigating what happen so long ago. as this involves Brett's sister, Chloe. If that weren't enough, Marley is also involved in a cooking competition that someone is causing problems among. The current events may or may not have ties to this skeleton and Marley is scrambling to try to figure out whether there was one perpetrator or more. Throughout the story we are kept going with lots of things happening and it kept my attention and I wanted to keep reading to find out the conclusion. The author does a good job at not giving us obvious clues as to who the guilty party is, so I was surprised by the ending. The characters are well rounded and you feel like they are real people, and can get connected with what is happening to them in the book. I will be on the lookout for the next book in the series!
I enjoy the Pancake House series when I want a light read with a lovely and charming setting. Marley is such a wonderful character even with with all her escapades. Well written with multiple story lines, that are handled well and kept me guessing. Another fun read to add to the series.
Pancakes, a chef contest and a cold case is a the perfect recipe for this book! Starting this book was like visiting old friends. From beginning to end, the story and mystery were so well executed, it was impossible to put down until the very end.
The Pancake House Mysteries are light, cozy mysteries perfect for a waiting room, beach read or a lazy evening in. In Crepe Expectations the amateur sleuth, Marley, owns the local Pancake House in charming Wildwood Cove. When she and her landscaper boyfriend come across human remains along a river bank, a cold case turns hot. The remains are of a young eighteen-year old girl who vanished a decade before. Who was she? What happened to her? Why did her remains show up now? These are all questions Marley decides to get to the bottom of Marley is both likable and highly intuitive as a main character. The mystery is evenly paced. It has all the elements a cozy mystery fan enjoys.
Brett is landscaping the gardens at the newly restored Wildwood Inn and when Marley comes to visit they discover the remains of Demetra who disappeared a decade earlier. Marley is helping with an amateur cooking competition but still finds time to investigate when the competitors start falling ill. She also finds time to help solve the murder.
Marley and the usual characters are engaging and its an enjoyable read.
Crepe Expectations is Book 5 in the YUMMY Pancake House Mystery Series.

I love this series. The characters are so fun and relateable. They mysteries were complex with quite a few twists and turns. I really enjoyed this story and the characters in Wildwood Cove and the mystery kept me guessing.
This was another great read in the Pancake House mystery series. There a few different story lines but the author handles them very well. A 10 year old cold case is prominent again when part of a body is discovered. Add in a cooking competition, a mysterious stranger, and a bubbling romance and you'll be hooked.
