I imagine a child would never get tired of their parent reading this happy story to them and pointing to the illustrations because "Most Valuable Puppy" is cute, sweet and funny. Many thanks to author Carol Kim and illustrator Felia Hanakata for the wonderful time. Many thanks, too, to North Star Editions/Jolly Fish Press and NetGalley for an advanced digital copy of "Most Valuable Puppy." I'm looking forward to seeing the print edition in my favorite bookstores.

I thought that this would be really cute for someone in elementary school because it could teach them valuable lessons about life. I definitely will be sharing this book with my niece or nephew in the future!

A fantastic children's book for animal lovers. I really enjoyed this book and would happily recommend this author. The animals were very aptly named which I found very clever as it suited their personalities.

I really enjoyed this book. Sometimes I teach groups of primary school children who are learning English as a second language, and they love having stories read to them. It's about the only time the whole class are into the same activity! The school has interactive whiteboards/projectors, so it's nice when I can put up a story book on the big screen sometimes so they can read along, and see the pictures.
This story is quick and engaging, the characters are likeable, and the message is very positive.
I can imagine reading it for my school kids but it would be a fun read for children who are gaining confidence in reading independently.
I can also see it raising questions and starting conversations - eg what is kimchi, what are some traditional dishes your family like to cook, have you ever taught tricks or tried to train a dog or other animal, have you ever brought home a new puppy?
Lovely story, thank you!!

Most Valuable Puppy is an enjoyable early reader chapter book about siblings Shawn and Kat. Their friends Mitchell and Sasha have an overactive Jack Russell named Bouncer. Their parents have told them that they might have to give him back if they can't train him. He is constantly misbehaving. When the family goes out of town, Shawn and Kat ask their parents if they can open a "Doggie Day Care" to earn money and help their friends. What they discover is that B0uncer has so much energy that they need to figure out how to help him burn it off. Through a little bit of trial and error and observing his abilities, they are able to figure out what he is good at and what he enjoys to give him a “job” that will keep him out of trouble. They had some fun adventures with Bouncer. Readers will learn about the many responsibilities watching or owning pets can require, as well as the richness they can bring to your life. There is also some information about the Korean culture shared in this story. The illustrations are cute and really add to the story. A great book for animal lovers. This would be a wonderful story to read when a family is trying to decide about getting a pet. Having had a Jack Russell Terrier for 16 years, I can totally relate to the energy level of Bounce.

Enjoyable story about Shawn and Kat deciding to set up a pet sitting program to earn money and as a result helping their friends’ Mitchell and Sasha figure out what to do with their over active puppy. Through a little bit of trial and error and observing his abilities, they are able to figure out what he is good at and what he enjoys to give him a “job” that will keep him out of trouble.
A fun read.
Thank you NetGalley and publishers, Jolly Fish Press, for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Our kids really enjoyed this early reader chapter book about siblings Shawn and Kat and their pet sitting experience watching a curious and sometimes a little misbehaved dog named Bouncer. They had quite the adventures with Bouncer and were able to see the many responsibilities watching pets can require and also all the wonderful things pets can bring into your lives. They enjoyed learning a little bit about Korean culture and those elements added a lot to this story. Thank you to NetGalley and Flux for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
