Thank you NetGalley and Agora for a copy to review! This book was so wonderful. Well written and the author wrote the time period well. George Hudson gets Jane pregnant at fifteen. They are from a small Yorkshire village. Both families kick them out. He can't remember her name, she can't forget his. So many turns in their lives that you just kept wanting to read. Loved it.
Thank you to Agora Books and Net Galley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book! George Hudson gets fifteen year old Jane pregnant. To her shame, she is forced to leave her small village. She has her daughter, Milly, and raises her. Milly is well loved and has a good childhood. Meanwhile, George becomes a very rich, arrogant leader in the railroad industry. He will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. Years later, Jane and Milly end up working in George's house. This is the story of what happens when they reconnect. Highly recommend!
A brilliant saga with a storyline to keep you enraptured to the very last page.
A good old story of good again evil with a satisfactory ending.
Lovers of Catherine Cookson will love this book.
I haven’t read any of Beryls books before but it certainly will not be the last.
I enjoyed this book and the characters that Kingston created. I guess you could say that Karma plays a role in the two main characters and I felt they both got their “just desserts.” No spoilers here....but a recommendation to give this one a try.
Wanted to love it but it fell just short if love into a very respectable liked it a lot. The story was engrossing and overall it kept me going. Was a few moments with the story that I was like why is this even in here but it wasnt enough to keep me from reading.
The author did a brilliant job of capturing the time period in this novel. The characters and plot were also well written. This was a great piece of historical fiction!
Off The Rails is historical fiction. Imagine having a baby at 15. The father is long gone. Years later, you and your child are working in a mansion that belongs to the father, and he doesn't recognize you. It's very sad and just made me angry. What would you do? The story is engaging and intriguing, unfolding at a good pace with enough to keep you guessing. The heroine is intelligent and strong. It's quite an interesting read. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
George Hudson gets Jane pregnant at fifteen. They are from a small Yorkshire village. Both families kick them out. He doesn't even remember her name. She can't forget his. Jane has a daughter, Millie. Both Jane and George have many changes in their life. George inherits from his rich uncle and goes into the railroad business. Jane and Millie eventually work in his mansion. He never recognizes her. There are many turns in each life. Jane cannot forget what happened to her because of George but she bides her time. This was a very interesting read.
