Science fiction genre?and a psycholigal thriller??? I mean mixing genes and getting 3 parents!
I don't know this was interesting but weird at the same time
And it felt cat and mouse!
Yes to read it
Thanks netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.
I actually listened to the audiobook for this one. Meh! I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, it's an intriguing premise and overall the story was interesting, but on the other it was rather farcical and predictable. And not that this is the author's fault by any means, but the narration could have been SO much better and more engaging, specifically Jillian's part, so that was bit of a turn-off.
TW: death of a child
Was this book perfect? No. But it was intriguing and I actually really enjoyed reading it. The genetics element of the story was really well done and I found myself considering the scientific implications of it all. I also liked Jillian’s character, solely because the author did not compromise in her characteristics. However, when the story became a thriller, it was quite generic. The multiple perspectives were okay, but Abby was definitely annoying to read about. The ending was also extremely convenient and I wasn’t a fan of it. Despite these negatives, I did find this to be a unique story and got through it very quickly. For those reasons, I’m giving it 3/5 stars.
Kira Peikoff is a new author to me, but you best believe I will be picking up more of her books!
I absolutely loved this book. It was full of suspense, so many twists, and keeps you on the edge of your seat! She did q great job with the scientific standpoint of DNA, where it didn't get confusing!
Highly enjoyed this book and definitely would recommend it!
Claire & Michael have a secret. This secret could potentially destroy their daughter, Abby. Someone else knows their secret - and they have stayed quiet for long enough.
I LOVED this. I flew through it. It's a really unique take on the psychological thriller, going back and forth to the events that have led up to Claire & Michael coming face to face with their past. It looks at things like DNA testing (which is such a minefield in itself), fertility science, bioethics, bioengineering - it's a really good read and makes you think.
The villain aspect of it interested me less, I mean it was fairly obvious who it was but the whole bioengineering topic itself is fascinating and I really enjoyed the back-and-forth.
This was an interesting read, a perfect medical thriller. I loved the twists, it was fast paced and I didn't feel bored
I really didn't enjoy the premise and couldn't into it. Indeed the flow was addictive but this just hit me the wrong way overall.
So this was the first psychological thriller I have ever read and it definitely did not disappoint!!!
The entire premise of the book, a child being created through genetics from three parents, was just the excitement and drive needed to carry this book. What unfolds before, during and after the process was the icing on the cake!
There were so many twists and turns, subtle foreshadowing and ah-ha moments that made this book so hard to want to put down at night. If I had not had so much going on in life, I would have completed the book much sooner!
The author does a good job of keeping you on the edge of your seat with u predictable events, bombshells dropping out of nowhere and multiple POV's.
The hero becomes the villain in this one and I enjoyed every minute of this book!
My honest review has been given in exchange for an e-arc courtesy of NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books!
Thank you!
I really enjoyed this book. It is a powerful account of a mother's love for her child and the lengths she'll go to protect. The twists and turns made this an exciting read. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
This book is great! Would definitely recommend. Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Before reading this novel, I had never heard of mitochondrial disease. I'm so thankful for the opportunity to have received a digital copy of Mother Knows Best to review, because it really opened my eyes to a world I was completely ignorant of. I don't have any children myself, and can't imagine the heartbreak of losing a child. Not only that, but deciding to try again knowing full well you might pass on the same disease to your next child. This story was absolutely heartbreaking, and powerful.
I would recommend this novel to anyone who's looking for a hard-hitting contemporary. Get the tissues ready, because you'll be needing them! I'd love to re-read this book with a friend of book club.
Well I don't know what I was expecting, but this was so much better than I had anticipated. A fast-paced psychological thriller, Mother Knows Best is an easy read that follows a mother who will do anything to protect her child and the questions that come from the actions of others. A quick little thriller that keeps your attention from start to finish.
I did not enjoy this book as much as i thought i was going to. At first I was hooked, but halfway down it got slow and i got bored. The plot is good don't get me wrong. But the characters didn't give me reason to engage with them :( I really wanted to love it...
Thank you so much for the opportunity to review this book and to be an early reader via NetGalley! However, I will not be writing a review for this title at this time, as my reading preferences have since changed somewhat. In the event that I decide to review the book in the future, I will make sure to purchase a copy for myself or borrow it from a library. Once again, thank you so much for providing me with early access to this title. I truly appreciate it. Please feel free to contact me with any follow-up questions or concerns.
An exciting original premise for a thriller. This book is gripping from start to finish but prepare to have your mind blown with a somewhat unbelievable twist.
Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read and review this title. I will review this title at a different date.
The scientific aspect of this book was really quite interesting and it started out really well, but then it got a little silly and the ending was quite disappointing. A woman turns to a famous fertility doctor who has been doing genetic research to see if he can implant an embryo that has her genetic defect removed. The only problem is that this kind of procedure is illegal. I won't say anymore, as I don't want to spoil it for anyone. A fast-pasted read.
LOVED this book! It's been on my kindle for a while and I'm not sure why I didn't start reading it the minute I download it! From page one I was hooked, stayed up way too late to read, and it stayed with me after I woke up. Mesmerizing, twisted and kept me on the edge of my seat. There were things I thought I knew, things I was led to believe I knew, only to realize I knew nothing at all! Kudo's to Kira Peikoff! Can't wait to read more by her!
Overall it was an ok book. I’m not a fan of jumping back and forth between past and present. It’s an alright story wouldn’t reread. I’m sure many would enjoy it. Didn’t care for the characters and interactions
Mother Knows Best is a page turning thriller I am regretting not getting to in my TBR pile sooner! When Claire loses her young son to a crippling genetic defect she and her husband find their grief unending.... and wish to add another child to their family. But at what cost? In an online support group, she finds other mothers like her and soon heard whispers of a possible genetic modification experiment splicing a healthy moms genes into the mitochondria of her egg to create a normal child. Claire clings to this last hope of having a normal child - but what ensues could cost her marriage and her life. I loved this book. The characters are complicated and conflicted but developed. There were twists I didn’t see coming, and a couple I did. Overall, I would highly recommend this book. I received an ARC of this book, all opinions are my own.
