This is a solid addition to the series but it’s not the best book in the series.
This book could be read as a stand-alone
At times I found the storyline boring but the writing style and the connection between the characters is really good
This book finds Lottie and her crew putting down roots in their own place, again, and rebuilding the shell that was the hull of their shattered lives. Lottie actually seems to be "getting it together" and trying to finally move on with her life. But, not to fear, there will still be the bouts of personal and professional chaos we have come to love and expect, as Lottie races to find a killer and rescue her two, missing daughters, before it is too late.
Lottie has to be my favorite, female detective, and this series is definitely one of my all-time favorites. I am SO excited that it will continue with another book! I don't think I ever want to see this series end!

Detective Lottie Parker, Irelands best detective but seriously scattiest mother is back in part 6 of this Irish crime series. I have loved these books and enjoyed this one - not as much as the others but it's still a solidly entertaining book. But oh God Lottie Parker why??? Her thought process is "there's a credible threat to my whole family, in the past there have been threats that I have ignored that have resulted in almost losing my daughter/son/mother/myself/the goldfish but I will still ignore this one because I have to crack this case before making sure my entire family isn't dead. Oh, and I need to get this steak down me before I even consider discussing it with anyone". Everytime. I know she's a fictional character but Jesus Christ I'm practically shouting at the book. I think I have said something like this with every one of these books but I keep coming back because despite her abject failure as a mother I do love Lottie and her team and will read more - I just hope she locks her family in a safe place for the next one!
Firstly of course I must thank Net Galley, The author and my favourite publisher Bookouture, who seem to have a collection of great authors.
Final Betrayal , number six in the Detective Inspector Lottie Parker series.
hen Amy Whyte and Penny Brogan leave a local nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning and don’t arrive home, their families are beside themselves with worry. Conor Dowling has just been released from prison, a man full of hatred for Amy, the girl who put him behind bars in the first place.
The case is given to Detective Lottie Parker, when the girls’ blood-soaked bodies are found, days later, in a derelict squat. Chillingly, both girls are clutching silver coins in their hands – what message is this killer leaving behind? All the signs point to Conor but his alibi is water tight.
As Lottie examines Penny and Amy’s final days alive in a desperate search for clues, two more girls are found stabbed to death in a luxury apartment complex. Caught up in what is fast becoming her toughest case yet, Lottie is unaware that somebody is watching her every move.
Then Lottie’s two daughters, Katie and Chloe suddenly disappear from the town centre. Terrified that the killer has her girls, the stakes have never been higher for Lottie.
But as Lottie puts everything on the line to find her daughters and solve the case, she’s about to find herself in terrible danger – someone has a personal axe to grind with her and they know the best way to get to her is to hurt the ones she loves the most.
The town of Ragmullin is one of my favourite settings and I love how vividly Patricia Gibney brings it to life, though I’m not entirely sure it’s a place I’d want to go to.
The story also continues to follow they every growing family life of Lottie Parker. Now in her new home, her kids and her mother Rose. The surprise visit from her half-brother Leo, who has taken her half sister out of and Asylum and she has knocked him out and escaped. Not forgetting the close relationship, she has with partner Boyd and trying her best not to show and deny the real feelings she has for him.
A lot of depth of personality and character is a very much part of these books, and gives these a real down to earth honesty, and her every growing relationship with Boyd.
A great book, but my only real problem with this book was I felt maybe a little too long by 75-100 pages, but saying that I know we were following three to four main characters, and three stories, if you include Lottie own life, the case from years ago, and the ongoing case.
Other wise great characters, well paced, gripping story. Great finish
4 stars
Two young girls go missing after night out at a nightclub and are then found murdered. The prime suspect is Connor Dowling who’s just been released from prison after a 10 year sentence for a burglary and assault. One of the victims, Amy Whyte, testified against him at his trial. Then another two girls are found murdered and again, one of them, Louise Gill testified against Dowling. The problem for Lottie Parker and her team is that there is no evidence linking him to the deaths. Lottie also has to contend with her half brother being in town from New York and to top it all he’s managed to get their half sister, murderer Bernie Kelly, out of the mental hospital. I love the Lottie Parker series and really enjoyed this latest installment.
Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and Patricia Gibney for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
Wow this book was absolutely brilliant, Patricia Gibney at her best.
Right from the start it’s full of suspense, action and danger, it was fast paced and this momentum kept going right through to the truly thrilling ending. I had the day off work today and I literally read all day as I couldn’t put it down. The story was captivating and had me hanging on to every word, greedily turning pages wanting more because it was so good.
I love this series and Final Betrayal did not disappoint I loved every minute of reading this book, and was kind of sad that I finished it because I was enjoying it so much I didn’t want it to end.
This book is great and totally deserves 5 stars, I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
From my blog: Always With a Book:
This is the 6th book in Patricia Gibney's Detective Lottie Parker series and I was so afraid to start reading it because when I saw the word "Final" in the title I thought it might mean the end of the road for this series...BUT rest assured there will be a book 7!!! In the author's note, Patricia states there will be another book...thank goodness as I'm not quite ready to say goodbye to these characters just yet!
This book was all about change for the team. They are still realing from a loss of one of their own. If you haven't read the previous book, I really suggest doing so before picking this one up...you know my take on reading series in order, so I won't go into that, but just be forewarned that this series relies heavily on what has taken place in previous books as far as the main characters go. In regards to Lottie and her family, they have finally moved into their new house and are adjusting. As much as Lottie complained about having to live with her mother again, she actually missed having her around!
This book is just as gripping and addicting a read as the previous ones in this series, if not more so. The case takes a personal turn when Lottie's girls go missing. We all know that Lottie doesn't stop at anything to solve a case, but now when her girls are involved, she's even more determined. The twists and turns keep this one interesting and Lottie doesn't know where to turn.
This series just gets better and better and I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book. Of course, we also have to wonder what will ever end up happening between Lottie and Boyd...is that ever going to happen???
I loved this series at the beginning but the last couple hasn’t been up to par. The main problem I’m having is Lottie. She’s really become annoying. She has problems which make her relatable but nothing is getting solved. She’s not growing as a character, so we’re hearing the same things over and over again with her. Another issue is that her family is ALWAYS involved in the drama of her investigations. Can’t Gibney give that a rest? That entire family needs therapy! There’s nothing new or fresh about this latest story. It was, quite frankly, grating on my nerves by the end.
*Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
This is book 6 in the Lottie Parker detective series and yet again Ms Gibney has written an absolute cracker of a book . This time around Lottie and her team are investigating the murders of four young women and she is also dealing with problems in her personal life . Another unputdownable read by this author .
I loved this series at the beginning but the last couple have not been up to par. In fact, it took all my willpower to finish this one. I found it boring, The main problem I’m having is Lottie. She’s really become annoying. She has problems which make her relatable but nothing is getting solved. She’s not growing as a character, so we’re hearing the same things over and over again with her. I have devoured all of Patricia Gibney's Lottie Parker books from the very first one but I must admit that I found this one a bit disappointing.
Two girls never return from a night out. The families are distraught & as the father of one of them is a local councillor there is a lot of pressure from the 'high ups'. They are found in a squat with their throats cut & with two blank silver coins. Suspicion falls Connor Dowling , a man who has just been released from prison & it was the testimony of the councillor'd daughter who put him there.
The second girl who testified to his guilt is found with her friend in a luxury apartment but the same M.O. the pressure is on for Lottie & her depleted team. She has her own concerns as her half sister who was supposed to be in a secure psychiatric unit is on the loose. When Lottie's daughters go missing she fears that they are in the hands of a killer.
I love the character of Lottie but I really think it's time Patricia Gibney gave her a break & gave her a case which did not involve her family as it is starting to stretch believability a bit! This is the sixth in the series & I think you need to read them in order as they are a great series of books. I would score this book as a 3.5* but have rounded it up to 4.
Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book- I'm still really looking forward to the next one- especially with the way this one ended!!!
This is a fantastic series of books. I can’t believe we are now reading book number six. We are reacquainted with DI Lottie Parker, her family and her team in Final Betrayal. This book can be read as a standalone but you must read them all to appreciate what has occurred in Lottie’s life. We find that Lottie has moved into a new home with her son Sean, daughters Katie and Chloe and grandson Louis. This is a fresh start for them after living with Rose, Lottie’s Mum, after their house burned down.
Two young girls leave a nightclub and are abducted. Their bodies are found in a derelict building and on the floor beside them are some silver coins. The main suspect for their murders is Conor Dowling, who has just been released from prison and the two murdered girls were eye witnesses in the case that got him convicted. Could he be the killer? Lottie is under pressure from her boss to solve the case quickly as their fathers are local Councillors. Then when more bodies turn up, Lottie and her team are struggling to make the connection. Alongside all this, Lottie’s is left reeling when her half brother turns up with devastating news that puts her and all her family in danger. This book, like the others, is filled with tension and suspense, so many twists and turns, red herrings and devious characters. A book that you cannot put down.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
How much more drama can happen to Lottie and her family? It's all becoming a bit too much and making the books seem far fetched.
WoW.......WoW..............Final Betrayal is the 6th book in the Detective Lottie Parker series by Patricia Gibney. I am a big fan of this series and just have just loved every book. If you want a series to get stuck in and enjoy............Detective Lottie Parker is the one for you. But you don't need to read from the first book as everything is explained. But you will want to read them all, as they are so addictive! You will not regret it. You'll be hooked and want more of Patricia's books.
This book had me wanting more and I could not put it down..........I love all the characters and Just love Natalie.
I loved the ending of this book, and can't wait to read the next in the series. But, will Lottie put her family before her job? Hmmmmmmm I can't see that happening....But You never know!
Highly recommend this book and all of Patricia Gibney's book.
Excellent read.
Big fat 5 stars.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
I love the Lottie Parker series and this was just as good as the others. It was great to be back with the team again, with the addition of Detective McKeown.
Conor Dowling is released from prison after serving 10 years for the violent attack and robbery on a local man - a crime he says he didn’t commit. He was convicted following two eye witnesses.
The bodies of two girls are found in mysterious circumstances, one is one of the witnesses, could Conor be out for revenge?
As the body count rises, the case gets more complicated and Lottie’s family are caught up in it.
Could her half-sister be involved?
Another great book by Patricia Gibney, can’t wait for the next one!
When two young women fail to return home after an evening at a local nightclub, their families begin to fear the worst. It’s not long before Detective Lottie Parker and her team identify a person of interest – Conor Dowling. Recently released from prison after being put there thanks to the evidence of one of the missing girls, Conor is certainly on the radar of the investigating officers when the bodies of the women are found. After two more bodies are discovered, it would seem that a serial killer is stalking the streets of Ragmullin and they haven’t yet finished what they set out to do…
Final Betrayal is the sixth in the Lottie Parker series and, again, we see the detective trying to balance her home and work life. Settled into her new home, things should be looking up on the domestic front, but, as readers of this series will know, Lottie’s complicated backstory is never going to give her an easy ride! Without giving away spoilers, readers of the previous book will be shocked to see that the revelations in the previous book play a huge part in Final Betrayal and provide some genuine heart in mouth moments! I’ve always enjoyed how Patricia Gibney mixes the police investigation with Lottie’s personal life – even if I do think that Lottie and her family must have some sort of curse hanging over them!
This is definitely one of Lottie’s most demanding cases for numerous reasons, not least due to the huge body count. With her team not all firing on full cylinders after events on the previous book, we do see cracks beginning to appear as she is determined not to turn to the prescription drugs and alcohol of her past. Her relationship with Boyd is still not progressing even though Boyd would like it to go much further. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next book…
Final Betrayal has a great plot and there are a few clues slipped in throughout the book. By having a couple of story lines running parallel to each other, the author has cleverly managed to muddy the waters so that you’re not always sure who is doing what. All will make sense when you read the book! I did manage to work out who the killer was, but did not solve all aspects of the case!
I would advise that you read the rest of this series before reading this book as there are several spoilers throughout. This is a superb series, though, and one that I’m sure you’ll enjoy catching up on.
Detective Lottie Parker is back in the sixth instalment of this gritty, suspenseful series. She's called in as lead investigator when a gruesome and grisly crime scene is discovered. There's plenty at stake in Lottie's most difficult case yet and the book crackles with tension. Fraught with danger this is a thoroughly gripping, twisted story with many surprises and plenty to throw you off the scent. Gibney once again shows that she knows what her readers want and gives it to us in spades. Final Betrayal is well written and immersive with a cast of three-dimensional characters and edge-of-your-seat excitement and unpredictability which fizzles throughout.
For crime aficionados, this is a must-read series, but each book can be read as a standalone as the main plot is self-contained. This one of my favourite reads so far this year and an excellent addition to the series. Roll on the next instalment. Many thanks to Bookouture for an ARC.
It should be no secret by now that I absolutely love the Lottie Parker series. When we catch up with Detective Inspector (DI) Lottie Parker, she's moving into a new home following the fire that devastated her house previously in the series. She's kicked her dependence on alcohol and drugs, so I was a little worried that the Lottie we know and love would start making rational decisions. I needn't have feared: she still finds herself in plenty of dangerous situations and often sails a little close to the wind with her boss. This creates a lot of tension as she works to solve the murders. The team around her has also seen some changes. We don't see a lot of Sergeant McKeown but what we did see suggests he will work well in Lottie's team and I look forward to following his progress.
There are lots of characters involved in the investigation and from the prologue, my interest was piqued. There are so many twists and turns and red herrings that at times, I found it difficult to see how everything would fit together. However I had faith in Gibney to make it work and it absolutely does. I did not guess the ending and I was kept on my toes until the end!
Final Betrayal ends on a HUGE cliffhanger and I can't believe that Gibney has left us in this much suspense! I can't wait for book seven.
“The body was heavier than he’d thought it would be. How could one so young and thin weigh so much?”
Well I was hooked from that first line…..Lottie Parker has just moved into her new home with her son Sean, daughters Katie and Chloe and her grandson, Louis….a fresh start for them all….
Then two young women go missing…..their bodies are found and an investigation begins…what is the significance of the silver coins?……Conor Dowling is just one of the suspects, newly out of prison and holding a grudge….
Then Lottie’s half sister, Bernie fails to return to the secure hospital she has been sentenced too…..she is also holding a grudge and feels Lottie needs to pay…
There are many dark, heart stopping moments in this wonderfully twisty thriller…and it keeps you guessing right to the end…an absolute marvel of thriller writing by Patricia Gibney.
Thank you to Bookouture, NetGalley and the Author for the opportunity to read a free copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest review.
