If you feel like some easy reading this book might just be it.
Starting this book my feeling was another cozy mystery where the boyfriend is a police officer telling his girlfriend to stay out of police business. I was nicely surprised that this book had a little more debt to it. It touches on the competing with each other within the restaurant businesses. Live within the American-Chinese community. Mother daughter relationships (Lana - mother and Mom - Grandmother). And the not always straight forward understanding of each other within a couples relationship. Interwoven through it all we have a murder mystery with a bit of surprise ending
This is a fast and fun read that you most likely will enjoy the way I did.
Thanks go to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
While this is the third book in a series, you could easily jump into Murder Lo Mein without having read the first two books. In book 3, Lana finds herself and the noodle shop in danger. The mystery is well-written, with plenty of suspects and clues to be mined throughout the plot. Being an Ohioan, I enjoy the familiar Cleveland setting of the series, and the addition of Lana's grandmother to the cast of characters is a pleasant surprise in this book, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what sort of trouble Lana gets herself into in book 4.
Lana Lee, manager of her family’s Chinese restaurant, is rooting for their chef to win this year’s Cleveland’s Best Noodle contest. While celebrating an encouraging first round, Lana and others from Asia Village witness the murder of one of the contest judges. Norman was rude and opinionated and had many enemies and few mourners. Although Lana wasn’t a fan either, she doesn’t like the idea of a killer on the loose in her neighborhood. So with some behind the scenes support from her best friend and roommate Megan, Lana looks into the murder and her questions soon put her on the killer’s hit list.
This is the third installment in the series. It may take new readers a while to figure out who all the important characters are since there are a lot of them, but it’s not necessary to have read the first two books to enjoy "Murder Lo Mein". I like that in this book Lana has finally embraced her role in her family’s business and is actually beginning to enjoy being the manager of Ho-Lee Noodle House. I like Lana’s friendship with Megan and also enjoy her relationship with Detective Adam Trudeau. These interactions make the book more interesting and the characters seem more realistic. I love the addition of Lana’s grandmother who is visiting from Taiwan. Although they have a hard time communicating because of the language barrier, they are still developing a sweet, loving relationship.
Parts of the investigation are very interesting as Lana tries to get to the bottom of the case and figure out if anyone else is in danger. She focuses her investigation on the most likely suspects, but after a while she starts going around in circles which gets old. I also don’t like the way Lana promises Adam to keep him in the loop on what she’s investigating and not to do anything stupid and then promptly puts herself in danger! However, her actions lead to a dramatic conclusion to the case. After the killer is identified, Lana can relax and the book ends on a positive note for her. Fans of Naomi Hirahara will enjoy the latest by Vivien Chien.
I received this book from NetGalley through the courtesy of St. Martin’s. The book was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

Lana Lee and the Asia Village crew are back with the next serving in the Ho Lee Noodle House series. With the annual Noodle competition being held at Asia Village, Cincinnati Noodle restaurants are competing for the top title, including Asia Village’s very own Ho Lee Noodle House.
When one of the judges is murdered after the first round of the competition, the contest is delayed, but not canceled. With a new judge on the panel round two goes off without a hitch and another judge is found murdered. Lana can’t help herself and soon finds herself investigating, even though her detective boyfriend has asked her to not get involved. There’s a lot at stake in the competition, including Lana’s life.
I adore this series and truly feel each book is better than the last. The creativity of including Sun Tzu quotes in the store is brilliant and the character continue to evolve. I’m just waiting for Ama to learn more English and then things will get REALLY interesting! A great series, one helping always leaving you wanting more. Love this one!
I enjoyed this third entry into the Noodle Shop Mystery series. Lana Lee is a fun character, as are her family and friends. The mystery is a good one and kept me wondering who the murderer was for a long time. If you're looking for a nice mystery series, check this one out!
Who doesn't love a cozy mystery? In the third book of the Noodle Shop series, Lana is back at it once again. Cleveland's Best Noodle Contest has come to Asia Village. After coming in 2nd place last year, Ho-Lee Noodle House is looking for a win. Norman Pan a local food critic receives a strange fortune cookie at the first event and then is found face down in a plate of noodles. Of course, Lana (along with her best friend Megan) decides she has to investigate because this murder happened at the plaza. What starts at asking a few question could end up with Lana being a target for murder once again.....
Lana Lee is adorable. I love that she wants to protect those around her and that she feels so much loyalty Asia Village. The interactions with her maybe boyfriend Adam Trudeau are great. I am already anticipating the next book and can't wait to read it.
This is another entertaining Lana Lee adventure. Lana's sense of humor makes this book a delight to read. Lana is the manager of her family's Chinese restaurant, the Ho-Lee Noodle House located in the Asia Village Mall. Ian, the mall's manager, has set up a cooking contest for Asian restaurants in the area and the Noodle House's chef, Peter, has entered with hopes of winning. After the first session Peter is ahead, but at the reception after the session Norman Pan, one of the judges is found strangled. Lana and her BFF Megan decide to investigate, because Lana believes that the people at the mall will talk to her but not to her police detective boyfriend Adam and once again Lana is able to help identify the culprit. I loved this book for its compelling plot, interesting characters and, of course, the food and I look forward to Lana's next adventure.
