Unicorn Bowling is a collection of comics that would be suitable for young readers probably aged 8 through 11 or so. Some strips are complete in 4 panes on one page, others span multiple page (much like traditional comics that sometimes follow a plot for a full week, other times have unrelated strips each day).

Easy to read, very relatable, and nice to pick up for small bites here and there. Although this isn't really my cuppa, I didn't dislike reading it and I can see how young readers, especially girls, would find this charming. I *do* really like that there is a glossary included at the back to help build vocabularies!

3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing me with a DRC of this book.

Phoebe is a nine year old with a unicorn for a best friend, Marigold. The two have lots of adventures together in this fun young graphic novel, full of clever humor and adorable illustrations. I haven’t read any of the others in the series but decided to give this one a try. I would absolutely recommend this for younger readers in love with unicorns! There are several pages with more advanced wording or phrases but the definitions are included in the back. I found it a great way to introduce some new concepts to younger readers.
If I was a young reader I would have wanted to read all of these! Heck, I still might!
Thank you to Andrews McMeel and NetGalley for this fun advanced reader copy! My opinions are my own.

This is a fun comic collection/graphic novel that tells the story of a middle school girl with a pet unicorn. No, the unicorn is not imaginary. These two friends share interesting experiences as the girl navigates the world of middle school and making friends (the human kind).

Another winner in this fabulous children’s series. I always love how the vocabulary is high level but the books contain a glossary to help with the new words. A great literary friendship.

Unicorn Bowling is the latest installment in the Phoebe and Her Unicorn series from Dana Simpson, and I just cannot get enough of these adorable and humorous graphic novel collections. This is another collection of daily shorts rather than a graphic novel covering one long story, which while I've enjoyed the past 2 graphic novels, I really get into the collections of the daily shorts. In this collection, readers will be privy to both a bowling expedition and a visit to Unicorn Camp over the summer among many other stories.

Dana Simpson has become one of my favorite comic artists due to the cuteness of Simpson's art as well as the easy-going slice-of-life feel to Phoebe and Marigold's adventures. I cannot recommend these books enough to both young and older readers. If you grew up reading and loving Calvin and Hobbes, you'll probably really enjoy the Phoebe and Her Unicorn series, including Unicorn Bowling.

Unicorn Bowling is another adorable collection of adventures starring Phoebe and her unicorn Marigold!
The four panel comics follow Phoebe as she navigates friendship, bullying, and summer camp with some familiar friends and the help of her ever-faithful unicorn BFF.

As always, I loved reading this out loud with my daughter and some of my favorite panels are the conversations between Phoebe and her parents.
This is a great series that covers several important topics about growing up with humor and charm.
I think there's something in this series for readers of all ages to appreciate and I always look forward to sharing the new release with my daughter!

Thanks to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.

Dana Simpson has done it again and created another hilarious, enchanting, cute, and at times actually laugh out loud funny story in the epic saga of Phoebe and her Unicorn! This time Marigold Heavenly Nostrils and Phoebe are back in Book 9 Unicorn Bowling. This graphic novel seems to loosely follow Phoebe and Marigold through the course of an entire school year and the following Summer. The story isn’t so much a cohesive plot as it is a series of cute situations and episodes/adventures the two find themselves in. The book shows how special their friendship is and how comfortable they are around each other, but it at times seems more like just a series of comics than one book or story.

I did really enjoy reading this with my 9 year old twins and discussing the jokes that were clearly aimed at my generation about dial-up internet and old cell phones. As always loved the themes of being unique and how not blending in to the crowd is part of what makes you special. Most of all of course I just love the silly humor and the lovely story about friendship. I can’t wait to continue reading this series with my daughters as they come out. We love them all!

I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

The illustrations are vibrant and delightful and the message of friendship always permeates the story. The books are geared to my female readers who will certainly enjoy this latest.

Dana Simpson’s collection is full of whimsy and a delight to readers of all age. I have long been a fan of theirs comic on goconics. We should all have a friend like Marigold who is not only willing to try any new activity but is there through bad and good times. Here’s hoping you have sparkles on your life as well.
