Brilliant read, kept me turning the pages until the early hours of the morning, perfectly full of twists and turns, and thoroughly enjoyable.
This is the fourth book I’ve read by Mark Edwards and once again he did not disappoint.
A clever suspenseful novel that keep you engaged and wanting to find out more. The story gripped and intrigued me right from the first chapter. The plot builds, the suspense is tense and the ending is definitely not one you see coming.
I would definitely recommend this book to friends.
another outstanding read from Mark Edwards. the lovely Elliot meets Gemma and marries her soon afterwards. Her family come for a visit and end up living with the newly married couple... and then they won't leave! A real page turner.
This was an absolutely gripping roller coaster of a read. It's a very dark and chilling tale of a newly married couple and what happens when the in-laws move in. This is the first book by Mark Edwards that I have read & I will certainly be reading more
This was a great read, everything I would want our of a thriller! Twisty, turny, kept me guessing. I love the authors writing style, excited to read more of their work!
Wonderful book that has some brilliant moments. This book makes you introspect and really grateful for your life! The author manages to make you change your perception about the characters through some brilliant deft writing. The writing style is so good that i felt like i was in the middle of this plot myself! Felt like i was living this novel more than reading it! It made my blood boil to read about Jeff and Lizzie. There are many "woah" moments in this book. Highly recommended!
I’m a bit of a Mark Edwards fan girl anyway, but this was brilliant. I read it very quickly and thought about it a lot once id finished. Despite the end itself not being much of a surprise it was very well written and crafted - so much so that guessing ahead didn’t matter.
When Elliot and Gemma fall in love and marry after a whirlwind romance, Elliott offers Gemma’s parents a place to stay when they return from France. When they move in with their other daughter,Chloe, who is ill it becomes obvious they are not planning on leaving.
A brilliant read that left me engrossed. Not read many of Mark’s books but I will after reading this. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
Another Mark Edwards classic. Fans of his work will love this book. It's reminiscent of The Magpies, carrying a creepy undertone that the author pulls off so well. Being lumbered with your in-laws is something that will strike a chord with many, and this is a very relatable book. It comes with a small cast of characters (which I love) maintaining a claustrophobic feel throughout. A dark and disturbing book that will have you burning the midnight oil as you read just one more chapter. A highly recommended read.
When Elliot meets Gemma they have a whirlwind romance and marry very soon after meeting. Not long after they’re married her parents come to stay. That sounds fine doesn’t it ? Your in-laws coming to stay ? Well what if they refuse to leave .
Wow ! This book was such a great read. I just love psychological thrillers and this was certainly one. It had everything I enjoy in a book, super story, good characters and it sucked me right in from the first page. A well deserved 5 star read.
What a great read. Finished it in 3days. Didn’t want to put it down. Although you kind of figured out what was happening the author still kept it quite suspenseful. Definitely will be recommending
Creepy and weird. The main character was a doctor, but so dumb. probably one of the worst books I've read this year. Thank you to NetGalley
When the in-laws outstay their welcome. A simple story, simply told. A nightmare.
As with all of Mark Edwards' books this is an everyday situation that becomes sinister. The story remains focused and waffle-free, the tension cleverly building until dreadful truths come to light. The kind of story with which we can all identify even if our in-laws are lovely. I worried about the cat as I have had cat-haters and cat-allergic visitors too. There is always the concern that someone may be mean to my cat. Suffice to say, the cat is the only character I cared about.
The other -human- characters have no likable qualities and sometimes are a tad incredulous. The elusive youngest daughter (the narrator's sister-in-law)) is intriguing though. So the only one to root for is the narrator: the put-upon new husband and householder. To a point there is some sympathy for him but mostly it is frustration. Why does he put up with this obnoxious behaviour and what will he do about it? Interesting to see how the law in Britain deals with such situations. If it's true, that is.
Edwards really is a master storyteller. He delivers his tale well, easy to read , compelling. I enjoyed this book and read it quickly. Easy to see why Mark Edwards is a best-selling author. Recommended.
Here To Stay is a fast paced, turn the page thriller that I couldn’t put down!
Gemma and Elliot meet, fall in love and marry after only two months together. Everything seems perfect until Gemma’s parents and younger sister return to England and are in need of a place to stay. Elliot quickly realizes that his new in-laws have no intention of leaving and something just isn’t right. What secrets are they hiding? Elliot is determined to solve the mystery in order to save his marriage but is he ready for what he is going to find out?
This book was Susan a pleasant surprise. I loved the concept and the twisty plot. I found it to be original and suspenseful and I would definitely recommend to all thriller-lovers out there!
A totally riveting read, full of suspense I just couldn't put this book down. If you don't have a good relationship with your in-laws then this probably give you some sleepless nights. The main characters are an interesting study of human behaviour, fast-paced and entertaining. I highly recommend this!
Meet the Robinsons .. if you must . Elliott and Gemma have a whirlwind romance and it’s not long before they are living together . Enter Gemmas family the Robinsons .come to stay for only two weeks while they get settled home from France . What could possibly go wrong !
Love Mark Edwards books and this didn’t disappoint
Here to Stay is well written, but is hard to read due to such horrid characters that are so unlikable. The storyline is good, but the horrible characters just make it hard to finish the book.
Has there ever been a weak, more frustrating main character? None come to mind at this particular moment. A predictable plot and unredeeming secondary characters culminate in a story that I ended up skimming. However, I stayed until the end hoping that every single character got what was coming to them. In a way, they did so there's that.
I received a free electronic ARC copy of this novel on September 23, 2019, from Netgalley, Mark Edwards, and Thomas & Mercer publishers. Thank you all for sharing your hard work with me. I have read this novel of my own volition, and this review reflects my personal opinion of this work. I am always surprised by just how quickly a good author can suck you into their personal, imaginary world. Mark Edwards is a master. He is an author I am happy to recommend to friends and family, one I am following.
I didn't see far enough ahead to follow this tale to its conclusion - Over and over I am caught unaware. I found Gemma completely sympathetic, her sister rather pathetic and ineffectual, and the parents totally evil. All the way through. Needless to say, the ending was a fairly complete surprise. I loved the trip and appreciated the ending. Thank you, Mark Edwards, for an excellent escape into the darkness.
Another fantastic book by a Mark Edwards! Literally could not put it down, read it all in one afternoon. So many twists, and a chillingly shocking ending
