The Prized Girl is a fantastic thriller that has a couple twists to keep you flipping the pages. One dead sister and a half sister trying to figure out the killer. Good writing and interesting characters.
This is a very hard read because of the subject matter but I did enjoy it nevertheless.
It’s told in two perspectives by two sisters, one is dead and one is trying to find out what happened to her dead sister. It’s hauntingly sad and a thriller that will keep you on the edge until the very very end.
Thank you very much to Netgalley and the publisher for this copy of my ARC.
As someone who loves mysteries and a good unreliable narrator, this one just didn't do it for me. While I did not mind Jenny as a character...I really found myself disliking Virginia and by the end of the novel, she really hadn't done much to win me over. The writing of this book was good, but the story just wasn't for me. I'd be interested to see what Amy K. Green does in the future, however.
So I read about 15% of this, but then the story just didn't hold my attention and I set it aside. The writing style was acceptable, but the characters just didn't hold my interest; perhaps they were too stereotyped.
The Prized Girl by Amy K. Green is a great thriller with plenty of mystery! It was easy to follow the characters and plot while at a steady, decent pace. Alternating characters/chapters make this a fun one! Definitely recommend it!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Releases 2020, detailed review to come!
This is a debut novel you need to read!!! The Prized Girl is a suspense filled thriller that immediately draws you in and I promise you won’t be able to put it down until the very last page!
The Prized Girl centers around two half-sisters—the younger sister (Jenny) who is violently murdered and the older sister (Virginia) who makes it her business to get to the bottom of what exactly happened that led to that unthinkable and horrific event!
I loved when a mystery/thriller is methodically mapped out to creat the maximum amount of shock! Throughout The Prized Girl I found myself surprised by the well planned twists and turns—love that!! Being that this is Amy K. Green’s debut, I am putting her on my radar and I’m already looking forward to diving into her next book!
After young beauty queen Jenny is murdered, the whole town is devastated. As her friends and family try to cope with their loss, police zero in on an obsessed fan they believe killed her. Everyone seems relieved the killer has been caught, but Jenny’s half sister Virginia isn’t so sure. She begins to investigate and learns that the seemingly safe small town she lives in has a very dark side, as did Jenny. Told in both Jenny and Virginia’s voices this is a compelling look at small town life
When a girl teen girl is murdered in a small town, her sister starts to investigate and solve the crime.
The author uses dual narrative, alternating between the weeks leading up to the murder, told by Jenny, the victim, to current day narrative by her sister Virginia,
This book has twists and turns up until the end of the story that I didn't see coming. I lost the connection with the story several times, not sure if it was because of the switch between past and present or just the content of the story line. But I did enjoy this debut novel from the author and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys suspense/mystery books.
