This was my first time with author Jay Crownover, but fellow bloggers reviewed the prequel-novella and I jumped at the chance to read Justified, the first full-length novel in the Loveless, Texas series. A sexy Sheriff with an attitude and a skilled attorney tangle.
I love romantic suspense and it's one of my favorite subgenres of romance. Add in the "enemies to lovers" trope with snark, wicked chemistry and loads of danger and I am lost to the outside world.
A full review will post at Caffeinated Reviewer on July 4, 2019. A review will also be posted to Goodreads and Amazon. I will uplift the link to blog review on social media for 90 days.
I was excited for this book after the sparks promised in the teaser of Case and Aspen in Unbroken. These two definitely have a bad history with one another and it made for a fascinating story with angst, drama and passion.
Aspen was the odd kid in town having arrived during her high school years and never truly fitting in Loveless, Texas. Case was super nice to her back then so when he is very rude and a complete jerk at the beginning of this book it was shocking to Aspen. But the ASP in her name, she strikes back and Case is the one who will regret his venomous words.
Case and Aspen are forced together when danger looms seemingly everywhere Aspen goes. The suspense and drama of who has it in for Aspen was fun and entertaining while certainly suspenseful. Case working through his past as the son of the former corrupt Sheriff Lawton require him to exercise his own demons. You think the Lawton family is terrible with everything they've been through, but then we get a major dose of Aspen's family.
Great writing that keeps the pages turning. Can't wait for the next book in this series.
Thanks NetGalley for the free ARC.
Jay Crownover can seriously write epic romance novels! I’ve been a huge fan for years so I was very much looking forward to diving into Justified! Not only is it a brand new novel from Ms. Crownover, but Justified also kicks off the Loveless, Texas series!
Justified centers around Aspen Barlow and Case Lawton, who were friends from high school and then eventually became enemies after Aspen was the lawyer representing Case’s ex-wife in an ugly divorce. Now 9 years later, Aspen herself is in the middle of a divorce, but the real problem is that it seems someone is out to do some serious harm to her! Not taking any chances, Aspen calls the police and the sheriff comes to help who happens to be none other than Case Lawton! Case still harbors ill feeling toward Aspen, but he takes his job in law enforcement very seriously so he does everything he can to aide in apprehending Aspen’s mystery enemy. It was literally at that point of this novel that I just knew this was going to be a book I would thoroughly enjoy!
I am so stinking excited about this series! I can already promise that I will be 1-clicking every single installment that comes out in the future! There are several characters cross-overs from previous series and I loved it! The romance was sweet, sassy and steamy and the mystery/suspense aspect had me glued to my kindle! I loved the cast of characters and cannot wait until some of them eventually get their own books! If you’re looking for a great romance novel to add to your summer reading list than Justified is a must!
I absolutely love a good romantic suspense book. Jay has really been knocking it out of the park with the Loveless series. I almost believed that Aspen and Case would not find their HEA because Case was so caught up in hating her. Once he had to protect this little spitfire his walled crumbled like a house of cards. It was fun watching Case trying to deny his feelings for Aspen. Once they came together and got over all their grudges and hate for each other it was explosive! Aspen had been through so much that if it was me I would have taken the first flight out to Alaska. Her determination was admirable. She was bound and determined to not let this control her life. The ex was just a straight douche canoe. He doesn’t even deserve a mention. What a twist it was to find out who the real culprit ended up being. And of course it ends with you dying to get your hands on the next book! I have a feeling Kody’s book is going to be epic.

This was a fantastic book. I need to read more from Jay. Luckily there are lots available!!! Please pick this up to read--you won't be sorry!
3.5 stars. I thought this was an entertaining romantic suspense novel. There was enough good action that kept me glued to the book. Aspen was a likable character, and I appreciated her (for the most part) level-headed handling of her situation. There were a couple time when she didn't take her danger seriously, but I can see how that added to the plot. I think Case was a little harder to like at times because of his almost immature outbursts at Aspen. I felt like it maybe made sense in the beginning, but towards the middle of the book, he should have been changing his views of her by then. Overall, I still liked them together though. They managed to find a good balance by the end. I will also say that I'm seriously hoping that there's another book about Case's younger sister and his best friend. I can definitely see that turning out to be a great enemies-to-lovers story!
There is likely a reason I do not read a lot of romantic suspense. I loved everything about this book minus the mystery at its center. Great main characters, a wonderful forced proximity romance with an enemies to lovers element, and secondary characters that I would like to read more about, heavily stack the plus column for this book. However, everything about the resolution to the mystery made me roll my eyes.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is an enemies-to-lovers romance at its finest! I was hanging by the edge of my seat from the get-go! I have read quite a few books by Jay Crownover but I have a feeling this book (and series) is going to be a new favorite of mine. Not only is the relationship between these two very angsty, but the suspense is excellent! I highly recommend it!
I received an arc copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review. This a new series from the author but it certainly carried her great character development skills. Case has known Aspen since she moved to town in high school. While he started off being friendly to the new “weird” girl life and their own personal problems pulled them apart. Fast forward several years when they meet again the day Case is served with divorce papers and Aspen’s heart is crushed by the mean comments from her high school crush. Now Aspen needs sheriff Case’s help when her new office gets trashed but how can he help the one person he “hates.”. Along the way of finding clues to solve this case the two also find clues about themselves and their true feelings for each other. This story had a nice mystery (I was shocked at the bad person) but was realistic too (people who despise each other for years don’t really jump into bed with each other in an instant)and I felt like the two leads relationship was given time to grow. It was also nice to find two lead characters who were a little more mature (aka not 18 ). The supporting cast of characters were also interesting and I hope Case’s sister Kody gets a story soon. I would definitely recommend this book. 5 stars.
I really liked this one! I thoroughly enjoyed the suspenseful storyline and it made me realize it has been awhile since I’ve read a good romantic suspense. This filled that void very nicely! The love story was also well fleshed out and I was totally invested. Of course, now I need to read the next one in the series! 4.5 stars from me.
Oh Em Gee this is case and aspens book! I have been waiting for this book! Case is the sheriff of Loveless Texas he’s determined to do everything by the book because his family background is a little shady! Aspen is an attorney she’s trying to do right by the families she defends! case unfortunately thinks she screwed him over but there was a lot more background than he knows! This book was so so good! I absolutely loved it! I love Jay anyway I’ve met her at a few booksignings she is freaking awesome! But that’s not why I love the book I love it because it was a fantastic read! LOL this is definitely a great start to a new series I love the little novella before this one but this book blew that out of the water! this book was really really good I highly recommend reading this! the only bad thing I could say is I'm so bummed it's over!! Actually Jay’s book rule Was the book that got me into read it back in 2013 I think it was 2013 LOL I definitely suggest any of her books like I said she’s one of my favorite favorite authors! Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!
