Love the suspense. Kelley Armstrong is a fantastic writer and I always enjoy the way she lays out a mystery
I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.
"Wherever She Goes" by Kelley Armstrong is a thrilling mystery that will keep you guessing with its twists and turns, making it a perfect companion for a suspenseful escape.
What a suspenseful novel!! Wherever She Goes had enough surprises and twists and turns to keep me guessing until the very end. WOW!
The characters were so real I felt as if I personally knew them. of course, Aubrey is my favorite. I like Paul's move at the end.
I am definitely looking forward to reading more by this author in the future!
I’m gonna be honest, I did not expect to like this book!!
I love that Kelley is Canadian and I’ve read book #4 of the Rockton Series and I quite enjoyed it! There was a lot of action, which as you know, I live for!
This one was completely different from that series, but in a good way! This book was a psychological thriller that kept you guessing all the way to the end.
There were multiple twists and turns and I couldn’t put this one down after a while! I’m usually not a huge fan of missing children storyline but Kelley’s perfect execution and unique take on this subject matter made me really love this book.
I love this authors Casey Duncan series, such a unusual setting and place. This one is a standalone, or maybe part of a new series. While this was suspenseful in parts, my feelings were mixed.
What I liked
The premise, Aubrey sees a young boy being kidnapped and becomes involved.
Her estranged husband, hard not too since he was a very nice man.
The easy style of writing and smooth pace.
What I had a little trouble with.
Aubrey's constant moaning about her past. Got a little old after a while and her regrets were mentioned way too often
The ending, too late by far.
Don't get me wrong, this is worth reading. It's quick and Armstrong is a good writer.
This was a surprise! Kelley Armstrong has never had a whodunnit until now... I truly enjoyed it. What do you do if you saw a kid be kidnapped but the cops questioned your every motivation. Aubrey would protect anyone at this stage, even a helpless child.
What did I like? This was a surprise even given the blurb. Aubrey knew that Brandon had been taken unwillingly but without the police help her background came into view. This was a fun mystery that kept you guessing until the end. Aubrey was not only a mother but a phenomenon due to being a mother.
Would I buy or recommend? Yes....outrageous story but loved it. I absolutely enjoyed it! Five stars to a great author!
I received a complimentary copy to read! Five huge stars!
Thank you for the early copy! This was an intense thriller with an interesting plot.
3.5 Stars/5 Stars
I love Armstrong, but the main characters and the soryline felt too similar to something a close family member is going through and emotionally it was too much. I had to set it aside.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this title.
I defintely dound myself easily hooked on this title, clicking through the pages on my Kindle pretty fast, and staying up too late to finish!
RATING: 4 STARS

I have been a fan of Kelley Armstrong since I picked up her novel, Stolen, and have followed her through different genres (paranormal fiction, suspense, young adult, etc). I will be honest and admit that while I will read any book by Armstrong, and she is a favourite author, I do not always love her novels (Nadia Stafford series, Age of Legends series and Bitten). I try and go into her novels with no expectations, as I did with this standalone novel.
Wherever She Goes is a contemporary suspense novel that reminds me of Harlan Coben - an every day woman gets sucked into a msytery that turns her life upside down. Aubrey is a single mother, that sees a young child get abducted from the park. She calls the police to report the kidnapping, but no one believes her. No one has reported their child missing and nobody else saw what Aubrey did. Her past, a mother who leaves her family, and gives primary custody to her ex-husband, doesn't help her cause. She can walk away or find the child herself and why no one cares.
I could not stop reading Wherever She Goes in any waking spare time I had. The suspense was crazy, but I had this nagging feeling that this was going to end badly (twist wise). As I rushed with Aubrey to get the mystery solved, I finished the novel pretty satisfied. After reading this book, I am motivated to start another one of her books.
***I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.***
I had such a good time with this book! I am a little mad at myself for not picking it up sooner but I guess I am glad that I was able to enjoy it now. I was hooked by this story right away and had such a hard time setting the book aside. I just had to find out how everything would work out. I found this book to be a really strong story all the way around.
Aubrey is the mother of a little girl who she loves more than anything. She is separated from her husband but they have a rather cordial relationship. Aubrey doesn't always feel like she fits in with the other mom, especially since her separation. Aubrey has a quick encounter with a mother and son that leaves an impression. The next day when she sees that same boy being taken against his will at the park she knows she has to get involved. There is one big problem - no one has reported the boy missing.
I was hooked by this story right away. There is a lot of different things going on in this story and I loved how everything played out. Aubrey has her own secrets and problems in her personal life but she just can't help but try to help that little boy. Aubrey proves to have a lot of skills and I thought it was a lot of fun to see how far she was willing to go to try to get to the bottom of the boy's disappearance. I thought that Aubrey was a great character and it was really easy to cheer her on with all of the challenges she faced in this story.
Therese Plummer did a phenomenal job with the narration of this audiobook. She really brought this story to life and added a lot of emotion to her reading. I liked the variety of voices that she used in the book for the various characters, including a couple of small children. I think that she was able to make the story even a bit more exciting. I am pretty sure that I enjoyed this book just a bit more because of her narration.
I would recommend this book to others. I found this to be a really well done and exciting thriller with a lot of different layers. I cannot wait to read more from this talented author.
I received a digital review copy of this book from St. Martin's Press - Minotaur Books via NetGalley and borrowed a copy of the audiobook from my local library.
I adore Kelley Armstrong, and while I didn't love Wherever She Goes as much as her urban fantasy novels, it was still a worthy read, and one I did enjoy.
I received a complimentary ARC of this book from Netgalley but all opinions provided are my own.
Kelley Armstrong’s Wherever She Goes is exactly the kind of mystery that messes with my emotions best. There’s so much to appreciate here: a tautly paced plot, a compelling mystery, and enough emotional heft to keep me rooting me for the characters.
Aubrey “Bree” is separated from her husband and she regrets it. She’s bowed down with guilt over things she’s done as a mom and wife and the understanding that everything imploded due to the weight of her secrets. Bree’s worst fear is doing something that might jeopardize custody matters regarding her beloved daughter further.
Then she witnesses a boy being kidnapped at the park, only the police don’t believe her and no one has reported a missing child. But she can’t let it go because she knows what it feels like to be child, in pain, and ignored.
Who has the child? What happened to his mother? Those are the two biggest questions that send Bree on a quest for answers, a mission that puts her and her family in danger & might also somehow bring them closer together…
Wherever She Goes takes an emotional toll. It’s gripping: I read quickly because I had to find the answers to the mystery and I wanted some peace of mind for myself, Bree, and the boy she was trying to save. Then there was the anxiety I felt reading Bree’s self-criticism, self-consciousness, and blame; it’s difficult to read—it’s probably not light material for mom-guilt-sufferers, especially those that are anxiety-prone—but there’s a pay off as she takes charge of her life and eventually stands up for herself.
At the forefront is the mystery over the little boy and his missing mother, a compelling storyline that’s satisfactorily resolved. The mystery sensitively picks up some of the heartaches and anxieties in Bree’s own past, and that makes the book have that emotionality I mentioned earlier.
Though I would have liked seeing a bit more emotional work done by her husband, that wasn’t really the point, I think. The star of this mystery is Bree, who’s a fascinating character and someone of great strength even if she frustratingly can’t always see it. I couldn’t help but want the best for her—and hope that this was what she needed to really see her own worth. It’s a second chance story, thrillingly told.
4 stars.
Minotaur Books and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of Wherever She Goes. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given.
Aubrey Finch let her husband dictate the custody arrangement when their marriage fell apart, so she subsequently lives a very solitary life without her daughter around full time. Out on a run near the park, Aubrey sees a child being abducted, but the police are skeptical at best. With no one on her side, Aubrey decides to take matters into her own hands. When a child's life is in danger, what else is a mother to do?
Aubrey Finch is a strong, determined woman with mad skills. She may take chances, but always calls the professionals in to take the next steps. The character may not be completely realistic, as she is too good to be true at times, but I found Aubrey to be humanized by the way that the author presents the story. The relationship between Aubrey and her husband was realistic, as poor communication, guesswork, and intuitive leaps are often elements in taking down a marriage. I liked the story because of the author's portrayal of a woman willing to do whatever it takes to help a child. Readers who like mystery and suspense will like Wherever She Goes for its strong characterization and fast paced plot.
This book was a pleasant surprise. I am used to Kelley Armstrong writing about witches and werewolves. This was a contemporary novel and she definitely has a gift. A woman, who is recently separated from her husband, is at the park with her child and she sees a child being kidnapped. A few days later the child’s mother is murdered. The police won’t listen to her. They think she’s attention seeking. So the only one she can really trust is her husband. She’s so afraid her past will come back to haunt her. This was great from beginning to end!
I revived an ARC copy of Wherever She Goes in exchange for an honest review.
“Few crimes are reported as quickly as a snatched kid.” That’s what the officer tells single mother Aubrey Finch after she reports a kidnapping. So why hasn’t anyone reported a little boy missing? Aubrey knows what she saw: a boy being taken against his will from the park. It doesn’t matter that the mother can’t be found. It doesn’t matter if no one reported it. Aubrey knows he’s missing. Instead, people question her sanity. Aubrey hears the whispers. She’s a former stay-at-home mom who doesn’t have primary custody of her daughter, so there must be something wrong with her, right? Others may not understand her decision to walk away from her safe life at home, but years of hiding her past- even from the people she loves- were taking their toll, Aubrey knows she can’t be the mother or wife she envisions until she learns to leave her secrets behind. When the police refuse to believe her, she realizes that rescuing the boy is up to her alone. But after all the secrets, how far is she willing to go?
Even to protect a child.
I enjoyed this book a lot. I love Kelley Armstrong’s work. It’s challenging in the way of using your brain to figure out “who did it” and she keeps you guessing until the very end!
4/5 Stars!
This stand alone book by Kelley Armstrong was awesome. The writing and the Characters really called to me. I love Police type Crime Fiction books. so if you love them you will love this book. I recommend Kelley Armstrong books to anyone and everyone. I think her writing checks off alot of boxes for many diverse types of readers.
I received an advanced copy of this book from the author, St. Martin's Press and Netgalley.com. Thanks to all for the opportunity to read and review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
As with any Kelley Armstrong book, you are in for quite a ride; but unlike other books by Ms. Armstrong this one is very real and visceral. A mystery at it's core but with all too real characters with all too real reasons for making the decisions they've made. Thoughtful and well written, an excellent page turner that should be on your TBR list.
5 out of 5 stars. Highly recommended.

What kind of mom voluntarily gives up her daughter? The complicated answer to that question is a secret Aubrey Finch has held since her divorce, when she allowed her husband Paul to assume primary custody of their daughter Charlotte. Aubrey feels the judgment of the other mothers at the park, those mysterious women who always seem to fit in and know how to raise a family. Raised in a series of foster homes since the death of her prostitute mother, Aubrey has learned to blend in and go unnoticed by observing and assimilating. It’s why it takes the shocking sight of a boy being kidnapped and forced into an SUV to have Aubrey willing to report it to the authorities and face the police. When no witnesses back up her story and no one else reports that their child has gone missing, the police not only disregard her observations, they begin to look more closely at Aubrey and her life.
Aubrey has done everything she can to erase her former life, the details of which are slowly revealed throughout the novel. What can be shared is that she has skills that enable her to investigate on her own, using the talents she once exploited for a profit to now track down a seemingly non-existent child and his mother. Aubrey’s investigation risks shattering the safe life she has attempted to build for herself, one built of comforting lies and a pretend normalcy. The pressure of keeping up the façade is what led Aubrey to end her marriage to Paul, a pattern of punishment that began with guilt she still feels from the death of her mother.
This extraordinary novel slowly unravels the story of a damaged woman who attempted to live her entire life under the radar without being noticed. Aubrey thought she could start over and erase her past with Paul and Charlie, but it was a life spent living as another person. Her interactions with a distant and understandably baffled Paul are painful and fascinating, and one never doubts Aubrey’s love for her daughter. As the threats ratchet up and Aubrey uncovers an even darker secret held by a powerful criminal family, she will find that in order to survive she must finally decide whether she has the strength to fully allow someone into her life. This bestselling author ventures successfully into new grounds with a standalone thriller featuring an outstanding heroine, one whose strength is unleashed when it comes to protecting those she loves.
