Not sure who the rogue of the title is (perhaps the new Duke) but it is certainly not the hero. For the last seven years Thea’s grandfather has been ill, becoming increasingly senile. To protect him from being incarcerated in an asylum, Thea has cared for him on an isolated estate with the support of only two faithful servants. From the age of 18 she has run both the ducal estate of Ferr-Colby and the estate of Ladykyrk which she is due to inherit in her own right under Scottish law. (Note: not sure how three people coped with maintaining an Earl’s residence without closing down rooms (which was not mentioned) nor were gardeners and stable hands mentioned, though the House, folly and grounds seem to be immaculate and at least one horse kept.) Unfortunately the progression of her grandfather’s disease led to him hiding things, including the precious charter that confers an Earlship to the female line. Without the necessary documents, the new Duke of Ferr-Colby, who wants the coal deposits on Ladykyrk land, petitions to have the title of Earl of Eanruig and all the entailed estate returned to the male line. Thea’s neighbour, Lady Stella Payne ropes in her nephew, Lord William Cavensham to help her fight for her rights before the House of Lords’ Committee for Privileges. Lady Stella thinks her nephew and Thea should marry but Thea doesn’t want to plump for the first man she has ever met and Lord William, disappointed in love some years previous, has no thought of marriage. Both of course are wrong as they are an ideal match but the course of true love does not run smooth.
There were a fair few grammatical errors in the advanced copy of this book that I voluntarily read and reviewed from NetGalley. Note: all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book was provided to me via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was the first time I have read anything from MacGregor but it will not be the last. I loved the characters! I think the author did a great job of showing their vulnerability and see their love blossom. Honestly would recommend it to anyone that loves a twist to their Regency novels. I look forward to reading more books from the author.
Theodora Worth the Countess of Eanruig is in jeopardy of loosing the only home she's ever known. William Cavensham has sealed off his heart to people except for family and friends. When her neighbor/his great aunt becomes involved their lives will never be the same again.
Thea has just learned that her right to the only home she's ever known is possibly being taken away. She needs to find a charter that her now deceased grandfather has hidden somewhere on Ladykirk. Thea goes to her neighbor, Lady Payne for help. Lady Stella Payne and her friend Lady Edith Manton come up with a plan that Stella's great nephew William Cavensham should be the one to be Thea's husband. William is summoned to Payne Manor and told the plan. Of course, he doesn't want to have anything to do with it. He agrees to at least meet Thea. Thea is determined to not wed the first man who asks. She asks for Will's help in finding a husband and the charter. This has the two of them becoming friends and trying to convince Stella and Edith that they aren't going to marry. Both of them are extremely attracted to each other. A summons by the deciding body of ton members brings Thea along with her new friends to London to stay at the Langham estate, home of the Cavensham family. Thea's wish comes true and she is treated like family. Her first foray into a social setting doesn't go well. As her feelings about her grandfather's illness are revealed along with preparations for her debut into society and the upcoming meeting with the House of Lords, Committee of Privileges it brings her closer to the entire family. They've become best friends, but keep their feelings to themselves. William is jealous of his friends who he introduces to Thea as potential husbands. Thea gets a marriage proposal. Her adversary comes and makes an offer. Meanwhile William and Thea are getting closer and can't deny the passion between them. William teaches Thea the ways of love and passion. The whole Cavensham family supports Thea at her hearing. Things don't go her way and another offer by her adversary is accepted. William is shocked and devastated when Thea explains the reasons for why she accepted the marriage proposal. He confesses his love for her. She confesses her love to his mother and great aunt and then heads home to Ladykirk. Both of them are barely able to function in their current situations. William's conversation with his father has him fighting for the woman he can't live without. Restless, Thea takes a walk to a favorite place on the estate and finds a letter from her grandfather. She begins to think she knows where to find the charter needed to make her claim. As she heads back into the folly she finds William. He clarifies that she has found the charter and they declare their love for each other. Thea gets a surprise when she comes to dinner that night at Payne Manor. Marriage proposal, marriage with a trip to London for a celebration and a baby on the way.
Janna MacGregor writes a saucy, entertaining, and flirty group of characters. You'll grow to love the meddling great aunt and feel the loneliness of Countess Eanruig. You'll want to boo The Midnight Cryer in the London paper for it's lies. The conflicted feelings of Lord William as he doesn't want to open his heart because of a past embarrassment and refusal. There is also a very what seems like opinionated cat named Lord Fluff. You'll fall in love with the entire Cavensham family and how they immediately include Thea into the family and help her to win the Rogue Most Wanted. I'm looking forward the seeing the next Cavensham Heiress to fall in love and will it be with William's friend, the preacher and his former love? And what will the next painting that Aunt Stella paints?
Lady Theodora Worth has been caring for her family's estate since before her grandfather died. Now her Scottish title and lands are being challenged by an English duke. When she goes to Lady Stella for advice, Stella suggests that her great nephew Will is the man for her. Will is the sweet second son of a duke who doesn't want to risk his heart again. Thea is not ready to marry the first man she meets but Will might be the right man for her and the estate. I received a free copy of this book from the publisher. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. I love this book. It is full of humor, romance, suspense, and some steamy scenes. I enjoy the quotes from a fictional gossip scandal sheet that was between each chapter slamming the main characters. Both Thea and Will are very likable characters. This is the first book that I have read by this author. It's definitely enjoyable as a standalone. I plan to read more in the series. I recommend this book.
Lady Theodora Worth was raised by her adoring grandfather the Duke of Ferr-Colby, when he dies she inherits a Scottish earldom as well as Laylyrk itself. But when the new duke challenges her claim to the title and the Ladykyrk estate, Thea is suddenly in need of a husband in name, at least. An elderly neighbour, Lady Stella Payne with a thoroughly modern sensibility and a dashing great-nephew just might be the answer to Thea’s prayers.
Lord William Cavensham second son of the Duke of Langham is entirely too devoted to his family’s estate ever since he was jilted a decade ago, but he agrees to meet the woman his great aunt Stella has taken under her wing and introduce her to possible suitors. When they meet Will & Thea are attracted to each other but both firmly state that they won’t marry each other, they decide to be friends who enjoy a whisky.
This is the fifth book in this the authors first series & I loved it even though everything said I shouldn’t have. I love alpha males & Will certainly isn’t an alpha but I loved Will. I love a mystery of intrigue in a book, this was a pure & simple romance & I loved it. I don’t like interfering widowed elderly relatives but I loved Stella. The Cavenshams are a loving caring family, I’d love for Sebastien & Ginny’s story to be written! I've liked Will throughout the series & he certainly got the story he deserved & Thea was perfect for him. They both fell for each other from their first meeting but for quite a while were determined to remain friends but then they enjoyed a dram of whisky & things changed! I found myself totally caught up in their story & I read well into the night to finish it. I did wonder who the mole in the Langham household was, as some of the details in the Cryer could only have come from inside knowledge.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
When Thea’s right to her inheritance is called into question, she is left scrambling to prove she is the rightful heir to her grandfather’s land and title. Having never set foot in London, much less its society, she is confronted with her complete lack of skills in proving her worth. But when her neighbor and friend extends her help in the form of her nephew and the promise of marriage, she steps up to do what needs to be done in order to win her case.
Will was once cruelly jilted and has since refused to give his heart away again. He makes it clear to Thea that he does not want to marry her but offers her his friendship. But when she also admits to not wanting to marry him, he feels a pull and tug that is in complete odds with their agreement.
This was a story about a woman fighting for her rights against a society that refuses to even listen to women. I enjoyed how Will was loyal in his friendship and support of Thea and how he brought her into his family. She had never experienced friends or family and suddenly she is swamped with them. Their total acceptance of her and her lack of social knowledge made me love them all.
I enjoyed getting to know both Thea and Will. They each had a history that had clearly defined them and I admit, I saw the writing on the wall in regards to whose heart was going to get broken. Nevertheless, when it happened, my heart hurt for that character.
This had some steamy moments but I never really felt the chemistry between the hero and heroine prior to their smexy times. I think I just needed to feel that they had a physical pull towards each other, perhaps watch them battle it and then yield to it a little at a time. Without the foreplay to a physical relationship I felt that Thea’s capitulation was out of character to a woman during this time.
I also struggled with the pacing of this story. There were so many times when it repeated itself over and over that I soon began to skim. The lack of action or diverse drama kept this from holding my attention and also gave way to the repetition. This was my first book by this author and I was excited and held high hopes for it. While it is definitely well written with amazing secondary characters, unfortunately it failed to hold my complete attention.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in Exchange for a fair review. Rogue Most Wanted by Janna MacGregor is the 5th book in her The Cavensham Heiresses series. It can be read as a stand-alone, characters from the other books appear in this book but I don’t think you would feel like you are missing out by not having read the others first. Lady Theodora Worth, Countess of Eanruig’s title is in question, her grandfather’s heir has declared that the title belongs to him and unless Thea can find the original charter to prove that her title can be passed down through the female line she will lose Ladykyrk, her estate and her heritage. Lord William Cavensham has been asked to help her, by his great Aunt Stella who suggests that they marry to help strengthen Thea’s standing before the committee that will decide if she gets to retain her title. William adores his great aunt but marrying on her decree is not something that he will contemplate and while Thea will do anything to protect Ladykyrk marrying a stranger is not something she wishes either. Enjoyable read, medium steam. Publishing Date June 25, 2019. #NetGalley #RogueMostWanted #JannaMacGregor #CavenshamHeiresses #StMartinsPress #StMartinsPaperbacks
Janna MacGregor is a most excellent storyteller. She has written a truly delightful tale full of sensuality and emotion. Her characters are very likeable and I found them very entertaining. This book has a very intriguing storyline. After the death of her senile grandfather Lady Theodora Worth must prove she is the true heir to the Ladykyrk estate and her title of Countess of Eanruig. She visits her neighbor for advice who then calls in her great-nephew, Lord William Cavensham to assist Thea. The original charter to the title and land needed to be found. I really loved the development of the love and relationship between Thea and William. Some scenes brought tears to my eyes. This is the fifth book in Janna MacGregor's Cavensham Heiresses series and I it was fun to see the characters from the earlier books in the series again.
I loved this story and I highly recommend it!
I think every Lady needs a Lord in their life and Lord William Cavensham sure fits the bill. Delightfully charming and loyal, he’s a heartbreaker for sure. Thea is beautiful and independent but to me she is just to much the martyr. I did very much enjoy this story and Thea for the most part. And there were many wonderful characters that just swept you away.
I loved this book. This is the second book I’ve read by this author, and I read it with some trepidation, as the previous book was just so-so, in my opinion. This book, however, was beautiful. Thea and Will are a wonderful couple, and their story was full of emotion. I loved Will’s family and the role they played in bringing the couple together, and I liked the stakes of the story—the couple faced real challenges, with real stakes. I found the story very moving and deeply engrossing.
I received an eARC from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
I tried...I really did... but I just didn’t like it.
Maybe it is because I have been reading quite a few “good guy” romances lately and I am just a little tired of the syrupy sweet, but this was TOO sweet for me. First of all the term Rogue in the title is very misleading because the hero is so far from being a rogue...nowhere near it. He is all things sweet and nice, overly so in my opinion.
Yes, I love an alpha, but I can take a beta in small doses but this was too much “all good” for me. I have to pass on recommending this one.
This is the fifth book in the Cavensham Heiresses. I’ve read three of the last four, and I am enjoying the series. Thanks goes to the publisher, via Net-Galley, for the opportunity to read and review Rogue Most Wanted in advance of publication. My opinions are my own and are not influenced in any way.
Rogue Most Wanted is an historical novel set in the Regency period and has most of the characteristics I love in this sub-genre. The pacing is okay, but there were a few places where it dragged. Over all, an enjoyable read, just not a stellar one, the reason for the 3.5 Gold Crown rating, rounded to 4.
Theodora Worth’s character is charming and innocent until Will lit the fire within her. She is extremely loyal to her grandfather’s memory, and the promise she made when he passed, almost to her detriment. There were a few inconsistencies in her character, but minor ones and did not affect my overall opinion.
William Cavensham is an enjoyable hero. While he has reason to distrust women since he was jilted at the tender age of nineteen, he’s willingly agrees to help Theo in her quest to find the charter giving her the right to inherit her title. He was comfortable with her from the beginning and a lovely friendship develops between them in the first half of the book.
This is a friends to lovers trope, and that is a favorite of mine. That’s why I enjoyed the first half of the book more than the second. The second half dragged a bit. However, there is a slow burn simmering which is one of the things I enjoy most in Regency romances.
If you enjoy Regency romance with a sweet and gentle love story, an interesting plot and a mystery to solve, then you will enjoy Rogue Most Wanted. While this is the fifth book in this series, it reads well as a stand-alone. Happy reading!
Good love story, the path to true love never runs smoothly! Certainly not in the case of Thea, a Scottish Countess, whose Grandfather dies while being senile, she now has no clue where the original patent is, that was handed down to her family. Then we have Lord William, jilted at nineteen, determined never to fall in love again! Be careful what you wish for! It is their love story, very moving at times, the family of Lord William would be anyone's dream come true; especially Thea, an only child, whose parents died when she was very young, growing up with only her Grandfather for company, though he loved her dearly, what a lonely life she indeed had. I loved the family, the Duke and Duchess of Langham, are sterling parents, who have raised responsible, loving adult children. Indeed, it is all a beautiful grown up fairy tale!
I highly recommend! Thank you Netgalley!

All I can say is thank goodness Will didn't give up! It's a miracle he didn't and I was really upset about everything they went through, but it turned out happily. I adore the Cavensham family! I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an unbiased review.
While all the books in this series by Janna MacGregor have been amazing - this one is probably the best of all. A lone independent woman, Theodora was raised by her grandfather since she was a baby. At 18 she began to take on management of his estates as he sunk into dementia. After 7 years of running the estate by herself, her grandfather the duke died.
As a Scottish estate, she is in line to inherit the title of Countess and he estate of Ladywyck. A distant cousin is set to inherit her grandfather's Dukedom. Unfortunately he was to inherit both titles. Not because he cares about the Scottish estate but simply be cause heis greedy for what he can get out of the estate.
Everything hinges on finding the charter that bestows the title to the first heir, not the first male heir. She is able to get help from the Cavenshams who are all hoping that she will be the one to finally touch William's heart to find love.
When all seems lost, Theogdora must give up her dream to marry for love and instead accepts a proposal from the new Duke, to save the land and her tenants. There are many tearful scenes when reading this story. But true love finally prevails and Thea and William find their happily ever after.
Each chapter starts with a bit of gossip found the The Midnight Cryer. Each tidbit is deliciously nasty and you know the members of the ton live for each salacious tidbit.
I received an advanced copy of this book.
Adorable characters and some old favorites. I liked that you got to watch Thea and Will fall in love and get to know each other. Another charming tale of the Cavensham family.
**Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley in exchange of an honest review,**
This is another stand alone novel set within the world of the Cavensham Family. One of the things that works about these novels is that you do not need to have read any of the prior ones in order to enjoy the ones that come after. Yes, there is mention of other characters that inhabit this same fictional world, but their involvement in the current stories don't overshadow what is happening "in the moment".
However, William and Thea? I just wasn't buying them. For starters, I am really beginning to hate books in which the two characters don't simply communicate more. When these two first meet, they both declare that they won't marry. They have their reasons.
Instead they became friends. Which I ADORED. I loved how he introduced her to the rest of his family and how they not only took to her, but they helped her. The first dinner conversation between her and Will's father was nothing short of endearing. Even the ever looming threat of the committee meeting, and the fact that she may lose her titles was interesting.
What got old was when these two decided they wanted "more" from the other, but refused to tell them. It was when they set about seducing each other, but still refused to even entertain the idea that the other's feelings may have changed. The "gossip" from the Midnight Crier also quickly became annoying. Not because it was supposed to be a gossip rag, but because each of their "articles" came before the chapter and more or less told the reader what was going to happen in the chapter before you read it. It was those little things that took away from the overall enjoyment of the story.
Don't get me wrong, I am sure this story will appeal to many people. Especially those who are fans of historical romances. I would definitely read more from this author (especially if she has more stories from this family to tell).
DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.
Rogue Most Wanted is the fifth book in Janna MacGregor's Cavensham Heiresses series. I only read book 4 before this one, and I absolutely loved it. (They stand alone fine, but will leave you craving more of this awesome family.) Did I enjoy this one as much? I think my eyes, which are incredibly puffy from lots of crying, can attest to that!
Lady Theadora Worth is the Countess of Eanruig, who inherited her grandfather the Duke's estate Ladykyrk when he passed away. The new Duke, who inherited the English title and properties, challenges Thea's claim to her Scottish title and estate. Her now-former solicitor suggests she will have a stronger claim if she is married. She visits her dear neighbor Lady Stella and her friend Lady Edith, asking for help in finding a husband and helping her to deal with Society, as she has been far away from it in Ladykyrk, tending to her grandfather and the estate for many years. Enter Lord William Cavensham, Stella's nephew. They don't want to marry each other, but he agrees to be her friend and help her the best he can.
There were so many wonderful things about this book, but my review would be too long if I discussed every one of them, so I will hit a few highlights. I loved how Thea and Will's relationship started out as a very strong friendship before developing into romance. It made the romance even sweeter. There was another romance here, too - between Thea and the incredible Cavensham family. They were such a tightknit, loving family. I especially loved the Duke, who bonded with Thea over their sweettooths. Aunt Stella and Lady Edith were a hoot; they knew these two belonged together and were determined to see it happen. There was also a mystery....would they find the charter showing Thea's claim to the property, or would she lose everything she loves? You will be totally enchanted by this mesmerizing romance of the Man-Eater and the Damp Squib.
I received an ARC of this book courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley. I received no compensation for my review, and all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
Thea finds her knight in shinning armor and finally has someone she can depend on. Will finds the love of his life and he can see the world through a different set of eyes. The adventures they experience will take you on a great journey.
What do you get when you thrust a girl sheltered because of caring for an ailing grandfather and a man who was jilted in love? Will is fiercely loyal and wants to help Thea, but they can only be friends. Thea agrees. Do they really think this can stay as a friendship? Forever?
