Thea and Will are the typical star crossed lovers with a deep love for each other. They fight for love their way without regard for what anyone else thinks.
This book had a lot of cute / sweet moments but overall it was just very disappointing.
I loved the idea of a woman needing to marry in order to save her inheritance and a man set against matrimony needing to team up. I was expecting an intense story, filled with torn characters... I got none of that. I was all very light and charming.
Also the characters' reactions were unbelievable (i.e. her refusal to marry him just because she wants to explore the London scene first ? What ??!! Aren't you supposed to be scared and trapped as any unmarried woman of that time ?).
This book read like a contemporary romance in costumes. Somewhat enjoyable but NOT what I want when I pick up an historical.
This is the second book in the Cavensham Heiresses series by Janna MacGregor that I have read. These are stand-alone stories too, so you don't need to read them in sequence. I like that Ms MacGregor gives her heroines some backbone.
This is Theodora Worth's story. Thea lost her parents at a young age and was raised by her grandfather. She has led a sheltered life in the country. She never had a Season, nor did she have any of the "normal" lessons in deportment that fashionable and well-born young ladies usually have. She is forced to go to London to defend her title and lands when her grandfather dies. Thea tells her nearest neighbor (a lovely older woman of title), Lady Stella Payne, about her problems, hoping she can teach her how to behave in front of a committee that will decide her fate. Lady Payne thinks she has just the answer, Thea should marry her great-nephew, Lord William Cavensham.
I don't want to summarize the entire story, so let me just say that Thea and William have some personal demons to slay and truths to "look in the eye" as the story unfolds. I found all the characters to be well formed and articulate.
This is another lovely story revolving around the Cavensham family. William is a second son who loves his extended family and is an absolute rock when it comes to supporting them. Helping out his brother and his father in their financial affairs and estate management fills his days. Ever since he was jilted ten years earlier by his first love he has avoided romance. Thea was raised by her grandfather, a duke, after her parents perished in an accident. He was her only family and she took care of him and his estates when he started exhibiting signs of dementia. She and trusted servants kept it secret to protect him and his reputation. After seven long years he died, leaving Thea heiress to one of the estates. The new duke and heir challenges her title and inheritance. She turns for help to her next door neighbor, Stella, who happens to be William's great aunt. Stella calls on Will and the entire Cavensham clan in turn. What follows is a wonderful tale of like turning to love, despair turning to hope, and all the funny and annoying things that happen in families.
A great summer read.
You will be turning the pages to see what happens next. You will fall in love with the main characters and the antics of the secondary ones.
Thea grandfather has died and she inherits his Scottish title of Countess of Eanruig She needs to find the paper showing she is entitled to inherit but due to her grandfather’s dementia he has hidden or destroyed the document. Her well meaning neighbors think they have the "solution" They introduce her to their nephew William and the story develops nicely from here. It is very well written and moves quickly.
I recommend this book. I was given an ARC for an hones review.
Rogue Most Wanted – Janna MacGregor
William Cavensham has soured on love forever because the woman he hoped to marry chose another.
Thea believes she must forget any hope of love and marriage because she must fight for her right to the title of Countess of Eanruig and protect its lands and people from the new Duke of Ferr-Colby. Her neighbor, Stella, Lady Payne, suggests that her great-nephew, Lord William has great connections in London and can help Thea win her case, thus throwing the two young people together (perhaps with a bit of match-making in mind) and initiating another delightful entry in the Cavensham Heiresses saga. Characters from the previous books play very limited roles here. The new duke is only briefly encountered and appears as a mostly caricature of a villain. And in the Advanced Readers Copy that I read, the pieces from The Midnight Cryer that appear at the beginning of each chapter occasionally seem to be misplaced, presaging the action in the chapter rather than commenting on it. But minor flaws aside, this is a charming entry in a wonderful series.
Handsome hero with issues, beautiful heroine with problems perfect recipe for historical romance. Good interactions between characters.

Thea and Will were wonderful.
Thea has no experience in the ton. She’s been in the country taking care of her ailing grandfather. Thea keeps the ton from discovering that her grandfather is senile so the family won’t lose lands or title. She learns how to mange the lands and tenants from the inside. Of course, as a woman, she cannot inherit an English title. Lucky for her, the estate she lives on come with. A Scottish title and she can inherit it, if she can find the original documemt granting the title and lands.
Her cousin, the inheritor if the English tutor, wants to unite both titles and decides to take her before the board.
Will fell in love young and was jilted by his love for a man with more money and a higher title. He’s happy managing his families lands but marriage is not for him. His eccentric aunt Stella asks him to help Thea with the challenge to get title, even marry her if necessary.
When they meet, they establish they will not be marrying but he will help her with the title issue and assist her in preparing for the ton.
I loved so many things about this book:
The characters are well developed. They don’t always make the best decisions but they aren’t constantly mucking things up.
The main characters build a friendship and slowly feelings shift.
They have conversations and admire one another for their intellects.
Will’s family is so wonderful. I love how they step in and help Thea because she is important to Will.
This book is a slower burn. The characters are interesting and the story solid. It is a quieter romance without huge amounts of drama.
I loved the writing style and look forward to reading more from this author.
4 Stars!! This is the 5th book in ‘The Cavensham Heiresses Series’ but can be read as a standalone. I love this series & have read all 5 books! I love how this one had Thea, the main female character, with a big inheritance of her own & she has inherited a Scottish Earldom, making her a Countess, all on her own! Lord William, the main male character, is the 2nd son of the Duke of Langham. I love the twist of the female being the wealthier titled one. I really enjoyed reading this book and there were only a few things here & there that I didn’t care for but other than that, it’s a great read! And I absolutely love Aunt Stella & Lady Edith!! I wish I could have my very own Aunt Stella & Lady Edith! The entire series is worth checking out!
*I received this book to read and review at no charge from the publisher and I gave my honest opinion.*
As always, a sweet romance by Janna MacGregor. The pacing, for me, felt a little off - without any real drama or tension, it felt like there was no driving force behind the plot and the second half dragged with the same points being made again and again. Will and Thea were such a wonderful pairing - both independent, kind and funny - but again there was very little dramatic build, either in terms of their developing love/lust or climactic conflict.
While I appreciate a historical romance that isn't held up by a plot so ludicrous as to be beyond belief, I do wish there had been a little more action or change of pace in this story. Will and Thea were both so anguished, there could have been more of a cause and outlet for their feelings.
ARC KINDLY PROVIDED BY NET GALLEY FOR HONEST REVIEW!!
I wish I could give this book a 4 1/2 stars, I really liked this book. It is not for those looking for suspense, action, or intrigue. This is a romance, complicated love story between too wonderful people both with a history. Lord William Cavensham was jilted as a very young man of 19 by a woman he thought loved him. It broke his heart and he overcome it by deciding to never let love or women make a fool of him again. He buries himself in the family business.
Lady Theo a Countess has taken care of her grandfather for seven years and kept his secret illness
from all. Now that he has died and she has inherited and earldom and the money to go with it.
A nasty relation, the Duke of Ferr-Colby is challenging her for the title. Due to her grandfather's
illness he hid items then forgot where or why. The document that will save her home, and the people that live there has gone missing.
When Will and Theo meet due to his aunt, they both make mistakes and speak out of fear
which causes problems for both.
With Will's help and the support of his family and friends Theo, tries to save her title and land.
This is a lovely story of how two people overcome their past to a happy ending.
I like this story and enjoyed reading it and the other books in this series but it seem to drag in the middle, too much self doubt and putting others first on both part of the H & H.
Starts off with a bang, slows down about three-quarters of the way through, then the last quarter moves back up to speed to a successful ending.
A broken heart has kept Will away from any romantic relationship with a member of the opposite sex. When his favorite aunt asks for a favor, little does he know that his heart doesn't stand a chance. Thea's biggest fear is losing her home after her grandfather dies, but when Will offers his help, she can't refuse. Two friends, to two best friends and then lovers.

Another lovely romance from Janna MacGregor. This book is a part of the Cavnesham Heiresses series but can be read as a stand a lone—though, I warn you, if you do read this one first, you will definitely want to read the others! The heroine, Lady Theodora Worth, has inherited her grandfather’s estate and earldom but must protect her rights to the title. Her elderly, and matchmaking neighbor, suggests that Theo’s claim to the title would be strengthened if she were married or engaged to a member of a powerful family and recommends her nephew, our hero, William Cavensham. Neither are eager to take such drastic measures; but hey, it’s a romance and so that changes.
The characters are well-written and the love grows naturally. The secondary characters add to the story in a way that is purposeful and not just an add-on because they were in other books of the series as so many other series-based romances seem to do. And the angst while the H/H tried to make it all work is very real making the ultimate resolution that much more satisfying. My only complaint, and it’s a minor one, is that the gossip-rag start to each chapter was superfluous.
Janna MacGregor writes the kind of book you simply cannot stop reading. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters of Thea and Will. Thea must find a husband to protect her title and land. Is Will the answer? I love the way these two interact. This book is part of the Cavensham series but it is a good stand alone. Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Perhaps a bit overwritten, but I enjoyed this story all the same. The hero and heroine were both quite likable, as was their story and the supporting cast. Based on this novel, I would check out other books by this author (or books in this series).
Instalust wrecked what should’ve been a fun title. William and Theo have barely known each other for a day before he starts feeling protective of her. It happened before the 20% mark. To me, this takes all the anticipation and waiting out of the romance and makes for an incredibly tedious read.
I really enjoyed this book. Ms. Mac Gregor did a fantastic job bringing the characters together. There were some parts in the story that had me wondering if the HEA was even going to happen. I would definitely recommend this story.
This is a sweet and endearing love story. The hero was an honest, hard-working man who treats everyone with respect and kindness. He suffered heartbreak or rather a big disappointment in his youth that still hunts him. I respected his decision to not marry but I did not agree with his reasons behind it. The heroine is strong, determine and kind woman. She is sincere with her limitations and treats her people with respect and care. Her last family member just died and she is not all alone but her character shines. While I found their mutual agreement not to marry each other out duty, I did find it a bit silly when they realized their attraction to the other. However, I do prefer slow burn stories where love grows and I am not such a fan of instant love.
This is my first novel from this author and I am impressed and enchanted.
A good Historical romance with mystery, drama angst and romance.
Thea need to prove she is the heir to her grandfathers property and find a husband to keep the estate.
This is where William comes in to help.
An easy read.
Voluntarily reviewed.
I absolutely adored the first half of the book. I loved how both characters were given enough chance to get to know one another, how they became friends and that friendship grew slowly into more. To be fair, nothing happens between them for the first 50%, but I loved that. Thea was that rare heroine who independent without being mulish and annoying me, and had grown up without hardly knowing anyone. I loved how sweet the first family to show her kindness and affection was. The Cavenshams really are a lovely lot! The books are worth reading just for their interactions.
But to be honest, the second half dragged a bit for me. I loved that there was very little drama except that of Thea's odious relations trying to steal her Scottish title and land (although that last-minute drama did annoy me, it was so pointless in my opinion). Both characters are very sure in who they are and what they want, and the story is very much about their development and Will's meddling family, so if you're looking for excitement and action, this may not be the book for you. But it is a lovely story about two lovely people.
The one thing I really did not like were the extracts from the gossip rag that publishes vicious and cruel rumors about both hero and heroine. It felt so odd to me in contrast to all the lovely family interactions, to be reading such truly despicable gossip, and I skipped them completely.
