Jackson is definitely an interesting read. It starts out with a lot of angst for both hero and heroine although each has their own story to begin with. When their paths cross, the healing begins.
Jackson is dealing with divorce and the loss of custody of his daughter which has made him very angry and dealing with the loss of his creativity in music.
Caroline Carruthers is dealing with a husband who has alzheimers and then suddenly dies from a heart attack. Both Caroline and Jackson find themselves struggling toward new beginnings.
Throughout the story the author strings along verses of a song playing in Jackson's head which threads the story together. It makes the read more enjoyable. The music brings a sweet ending to the story. However, this romance does have some sensual and tender scenes that are tastefully presented. For those who prefer only clean or christian romances then you would not want to read this one since it does have the couple having relations especially before marriage.
Another good read from Emily March!
Redemption, TX seems to be the place to be for second chances at life and love. Whimsical Celeste, determined Caroline Carruthers and a broken Dad, Jackson McBride, along with some recurring characters, makes this story a likable read.
Fun, emotional and warm, "Jackson" will not leave his readers disappointed!
Jackson is the first book in the Eternity Springs: The McBrides of Texas Trilogy by Emily March which is a spin-off series. The original series is called Eternity Springs and I think you should those books first instead of this one. I got the feeling that I was missing things and that I had begun a series in the middle. The biggest issue I had with the book was the time jumps. Not only there were too many, but the reader was not getting a warning and suddenly boom we are 3 months later after the events of the previous paragraph or chapter. The thing is that the flow was continuous so it was like no time had passed, but suddenly they mention that a week or a month had passed. It was annoying and it made my reading harder. I am not sure if that will be fixed in the published version or not and I am hoping it will.
I also hated that Jackson got to spend a week with his daughter and we only got a short description of what they did in 3 lines. I would have loved to see him spend time with his daughter without the drama and the sadness that came later.
I was worried that the heroine would be still fixed on her husband after he moved on, but things are not what they seem and in the end, the whole situation was sad. The story is separated into two parts and in the second part both characters are single and it takes place one year after the end of part one.
Overall, the book did not left me with a good impression, but I am willing to give another chance to the author since I have liked one of her other books. I think another round of editing would fix many things.
JACKSON by Emily March is a total delight from beginning to end.
Lots of talk about the circle of our lives. Lots of talk about our next chapter of our lives. Imagery at its best interwoven with a glorious story about the trials and tribulations of life. JACKSON by Emily March is a delight to our literary senses. This is my first Emily March book and it certainly won’t be my last.
Jackson is coming off a bad turn of events. Marriage over. Poor decisions resulting in more angst then he ever anticipated. Perhaps that was one of the glaring factors. Jackson had shot from the hip and thought about the repercussions too late. Now his life was just not where he had ever expected.
Coming to Redemption had given Jackson some sense of calm which he desperately needed. Now it was a matter of building a new life. His songwriting career was in the dumps and he thought his ideas were a thing of a past. He needed a new muse. Redemption might just hold the answer.
Caroline has decided to relocate to Redemption in an attempt to reinvent herself. Used to having decisions made for her this was a chance to follow her own dreams. Opening the Next Chapter Bookstore was going to give Caroline’s life that restart she was hoping for.
Jackson and Caroline are pretty perfect for each other. They both are gun shy about starting any sort of relationship and lonely to boot. Caroline has a heart of gold which feels used up and broken and so she is reluctant to try again. Love hurts too much. And that’s pretty much the way Jackson feels as well.
Coming to Redemption has a bit of twist of fate mixed in with some leap of faith for both of these amazing characters that will remain in your heart long after the story is over. JACKSON is that kind of story. Caroline and Jackson are fated to be two of your favorite current day literary characters. Emily March outdid herself when she created these two.
A good story of second chances. First book in The McBrides of Texas series. Three cousins inherit the old town of Redemption. As they work at revitalize it the story unfolds. I enjoyed the story of Caroline and Jackson. I will definitely read the next in the series!
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my open and honest review.
What a great addition to this long running series! I enjoyed this book for so many reasons. For one I loved that benevolent know it all Celeste is shown as a snarky combatant with her cousin Angelica. Secondly, this book introduces hunky cousins Boone, Jackson, and Tucker. Lastly, I enjoyed the love story between Jackson and Caroline. Jackson is a famous songwriter who has recently lost custody of his daughter to his popstar wife after she lied in court. Caroline is a writer who is going through the agony of her older husbands Alzheimer’s disease and having had to place him in a facility.
Jackson and Caroline end up in Redemption after he inherits property with his cousins and she is maneuvered by Celeste to write about the lost town of Last Chance. Neither of them are looking for romance but there is that little spark that they ignore. When Carolyn’s husband dies and she comes back, all bets are off.
I love the pace of their romance and how it works towards their HEA. The secondary characters add a huge amount to the story and set up future books. I really liked seeing another side of Celeste and enjoyed the quirky character of Angelica. As always, I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Redemption, TX seems like the perfect place for Jackson and Caroline to meet and start over. Thanks to Netgalley for an advanced copy to review. Jackson just ended an ugly divorce with losing custody of his six year old daughter. Caroline is a blog writer who comes to town to open the bookstore she always dreamed about. Both of these characters have healing but yet a connection that draws the reader into a world of romance and love.
I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased opinion.
Caroline Carruthers feels like her life ended when she had to bury her husband. However, after an unexpected visit to Redemption, Texas, she decides to move there and open a bookstore called The Next Chapter. Jackson McBride and his cousins are surprised to learn that they have inherited some land near Redemption, and after touring the land, they decide to open a resort on the land. After his ex-wife gained custody of their daughter in a nasty battle, Jackson has nothing tying him to Nashville and moves to Redemption to oversee the steps needed to create their resort. Jackson is a songwriter, but the music has left him since he lost his daughter. When Jackson meets Caroline, however, the inspiration comes back. Neither Jackson nor Caroline are interested in love right now; however, their hearts may have other plans.
Jackson is the first book of a spinoff of the Eternity Springs series, and several characters from that series make an appearance in Jackson. Caroline's and Jackson's family matters take a backseat to romance for much of the book. They both had growing to do, and that was the focus of the book. I personally didn't think the lyrics that came to Jackson each time he saw Caroline seemed very good, but maybe I would have liked them better if I could hear them set to music. It was easy to see from this book where the next couple of books in the series will be headed. This wasn't my favorite Emily March book, but I will be continuing to read the series.
This is a book I wanted to see go on and on and stay in their lives forever. Ms. March is a new, to me, writer and I can honestly say, she'll be at the top of my list from now on. These characters are so down home real. They're just like your neighbors. I'm ready to move to Redemption as soon as I can get packed!
Take charge men who are NOT controlling are so sexy. Those same men who have that love-love relationship with their children touch my heart. I was very impressed with the way Ms. March was able to intertwine all the lives into a relationship that worked for everyone and didn't leave anyone out in the cold.
This story was pretty perfect by my standards and I'm off to find the next book in this series.
This book was gifted to me by the publisher in return for an honest review.
I couldn't get into Jackson's appeal of Caroline with her still being married.but then the marriage was essentially over so I guess Caroline was freee to move on and find a new man. It just left a bad taste in my mouth.
This is a new to me author and I was surprised and enjoyed it. I did not realize this was a spinoff to a series but I was able to read it with no problems.
This book takes place in Colorado and Texas. Jackson went through a bad divorce and things don’t seem to get any better. His cousin calling asking him to come to Texas came at the perfect time. Caroline’s husband is in a care facility. When she gets asked to go somewhere for work she decides to go. She never expected it to change her life like it does.
This book was ok and I am thinking about reading some other books by this author.
A spin off of the eternity spring series, filled with small town charm! Jackson was sweet and strong and good leading character.
Whenever I come across a romance novel set in Texas, especially in the areas I'm familiar with, I jump at the chance to review it. Emily March's Redemption seems to me inspired by Fredericksburg from the description of the German establishments, the distance to Austin, and the beautiful land around it. For me, the setting played a big part in making me enjoy this book as much as the development of the relationship between Jackson and Caroline.
I very much liked the flow of this story. From their first meeting, which was somehow orchestrated by Celeste, to a year later when their second chance at love started to bloom. There wasn't much back story to trudge through as the reader is a witness to the events as they unfold.
I also appreciate the characterization of Jackson and Caroline. There's a realism to their thoughts, actions, and words that makes one relate to them somehow. Jackson's despondency at the prolonged separation with his daughter and Caroline's grief over her husband's illness and subsequent death rang true for me, as well as their friendship turning into love as they got to know each other better. It took them a while, but when they fell, they only had the utmost support of one another.
I absolutely love that both of them build something from scratch in their new hometown. Caroline's bookstore The Next Chapter is the realization of my dream, I completely felt her emotions when she opened it.
There's a lot of named characters. It got unwieldy at times, particularly when the horde from Eternity Springs came for the opening of the B&B Jackson and his cousins own. I also resented the scenes in the book that happened outside of Redemption. Apart from those things, I really enjoyed Jackson and I'm looking forward to reading the next installment in the series.
A great start to a spin off of Eternity Springs with the McBrides. The story is told in two parts. The first part is where you a chance meeting of Caroline and Jackson where they become friends. The second part takes place in Redemption Texas, where their relationship develops into so much more.
Caroline is initially dealing with a lot, her husband is in a nursing home with dementia and most of the time he doesn't even recognize Caroline. Jackson is singer songwriter how has lose his desire after a divorce and being denies visitation with his daughter. He has arrived in Redemption to find himself.
After the death of her husband, Caroline takes a dare to move to Redemption to open up a bookstore when she meets Jackson. Will they both get a second chance of love?
This is a heartfelt story that will pull you in and won't let you go. Loved how strong Caroline was and wouldn't give up. The same with Jackson, so broken after his divorce even though he knew it was the right thing, but the love that he had for his daughter, Haley.
I'm so looking forward to reading the next book in this spinoff. I Highly recommend!
I just have to say AHHH! A lovely second chance romance with some yummy male cousins. How lucky to inherit a fabulous piece of property. I like what they did with it. The 2 female cousins are a humorous set as they set up the inn in an old brothel, aren't they? The small town is full of interesting characters. I thought this was a nice story with a balance of fun, grief and recovery full of love. I liked the book.
I love the people of Eternity Springs and this new series of the McBrides of Texas is fantastic. I love Jackson, Caroline and Haley. Both Jackson and. Caroline had some bad relationships and are just learning to trust again. I love how everything is settled. I also love the twists and turns that pop up along the way. I received a copy of this book from St. Martin’s Press for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
Starting over in Redemption.
Caroline Carruthers is a young widow, just starting over with a move to Redemption and running a book store.
Jackson McBride is holding on to his hurt and bitterness like it was a life raft after his divorce. He's starting over, too.
Can these two start over in Redemption?
What I liked? Caroline and Jackson both knew loss and lived through hopes and dreams and those hopes and dreams ending. I really loved that they were writing new chapters and moving on with their lives and shaking things up with change.
Recommend.
Outstanding family romance based around the McBride family, Jackson in particular. Jackson and Caroline are trying to recover from tragedies in their lives. Caroline lost her husband that was older than her. Jackson lost his marriage to his ex who is a pop star. That was enough but he ended up looking his young daughter in a custody battle. The two meet and become friends that are grieving. I love how all the, McBrides their relatives and townsfolk all come together as family. Each individual brings its own twist and issues to the story in small town Texas. Hooefully, we'll get to meet other family members in their own stories. I received a complementary copy of this book via Net Galley and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. March.
I was so pleased to see Celeste in the beginning of this one! Even outside of Eternity Springs Celeste has a way to make things happen. It was nice to get out of Eternity Springs and focus on the McBride cousins. I've seen a bit of Boone in previous books and really enjoyed getting to know him a bit better (and I'm really looking forward to his book).
This book however isn't about Boone but about Jackson and Caroline. Both have some seriously tragic backstories that are still in play in their day to day lives. I really liked both. Caroline is a strong woman dealing with an unimaginable situation and trying to make the best of it. Jackson just had his world ripped away from him and is trying to find the music he lost some time ago. It was nice to watch them find a way to have some happiness back in their lives and form a connection with each other. The romance is slow to make an appearance as much of the book is them finding their footing and forming a connection with each other. For this I was a bit glad. While I really liked them both and wanted them to have an HEA I'm not sure I bought it by the end. It isn't that I don't think they could be happy together it's more that I just wasn't quite sure I bought how it wrapped up. That being said I still enjoyed reading this and will definitely be reading the rest of the trilogy!
I love starting a new series. This is number one of a trilogy. I am definitely looking forward to the next two. I enjoyed reconnecting with characters from previous books. Though, you can read this one and not be confused. A great stand alone read if you wish.
