I enjoyed the book, was able to plow through it in a couple of sittings, which isn't always what happens. I found out about it through Deadline and Glen Powell, who will be starring in the movie adaptation. I'm a fan of his work with Zoey Deutch so I was interested.

Honestly, I think it's gonna be utterly unadaptable. It's broadly paced with kind of thin characterization, despite being dual perspective-d. I found the romance to be sweet and enticing, but not enough to help carry where it lacks. It also reminds me irreparably of the 2014 film "Winter's Tale" which is. Such a bad film.. But anyway. The book is sweet. Good luck adapting it.

This is a book that I had a hard time getting through, although I think that is more due to my taste in literature then to the book itself. The book was not a bad read, it's just not my type of story. It was very frustrating to me.
The book follows a man named Joe, an employee of Grand Central Terminal in NYC, and an eligible bachelor. He meets a strange young woman, Nora, at the station one day. She appears to be a bit disheveled, in an older looking dirty dress, and without a coat in the middle of winter. He doesn't quite know what to think of her, but he is definitely intrigued by her. Joe has a meeting to attend, and then has a shift to work so he can't stay and talk with Nora, but she never leaves his mind. Then some time later she appears in the Terminal again in the same clothes. The more he finds out about her, and the more time he spends with her he is more interested in getting to know her better; however it turns out not to be so easy.

This time travel love story is set in the 1920's and beyond from New York's Grand Central Station. Not only is the story magical but the place is as well. Lisa describes the daily life which goes on in the Station in a way you feel like you are there. It really becomes a city into itself and is very important to the story. Those of you who have visited this landmark will want to go back and experience it through Nora's eyes.
Joe and Nora meet at Grand Central Station under the most unusual circumstances and fall in love. The book takes you through their relationship and how they would do anything for each other.
Book clubs will want to explore topics of love, selflessness and family. And the reader will not want to put the book down.

I finished this book several weeks ago and every time I thought about writing a review I just couldn’t marshall my thoughts. Each time I had to leave off the book I never rushed back to pick it up and find out what was going to happen to the main characters, Nora and Joe. While fairly well written, the time travel scenario has been handled better by other authors. The pluses; the information and description of Grand Central Station; and Manhattanhenge, an astronomical event more commonly known as the Manhattan Solstice. The minuses; a repetitive story that never completely grabbed my attention with one dimensional characters that never really came alive.

An interesting but not compelling idea that just didn’t captivate my interest.

Thank you NetGalley and Random House for a copy.

I've read a lot if WWII fiction but this was certainly a breath of fresh air. My favorite part of the time travel element was how Joe and Nora figured it out. Not quite magical realism but not science fiction either. I was particularly pleased with the ending that resulted in a satisfying ending for both Joe and Nora.

Thank you Random House for the eARC of Time After Time! When I heard the premise of this story, it sounded right up my alley — history & time travel — but it ended up being about so much more. Set against the backdrop of Grand Central Terminal in the lead up to and during WWII, this book is all about love and sacrifice. The characters are richly drawn, and stubbornly human- it’s a beautiful story about what we will do for the people we love.

What a sweet and lovely lyrical story this was... I am captivated by time and stories about time anomalies, and this was a delightful find. It was whimsical and original and clever and I quite enjoyed it. I must admit that it felt like it could have used a slightly tighter edit - there are whole swaths of the story that describe the minutiae of Joe and Nora's lives that, while I understood for the color they were providing, found to pull me out of the otherwise excellent pacing of the story arc. On the whole though I really enjoyed this - it was touching and beautiful and magical without ever feeling heavy-handed. I recently read another novel about the history of Grand Central Terminal and found the level of detail in that regard to be spot-on and to paint a marvelous picture of a time and place that almost became a character itself, given the direction of the story. Very well done!

I dislike when a new book is compared to another older one ( in this case The Time Traveler's Wife.) So I usually I wait til the book has been out for a while to decide whether or not to read it. I made an exception with Time After Time because the synopsis is wonderfully intriguing, and the Time Traveler's Wife is one of my all time favorites. I can see why the comparisons were made but they aren't similar stories.

I relished this novel from start to finish! I was so engrossed in Nora and Joe's story that I hated to put it down. It's an epic love story for sure, and there's a lot of other components as well. It's a story about the many forms love can take, about devotion to family and place, and duty. It's about the choices we make and why, and the compromises we are willing to make for the people we love. I appreciated the time frame, as WWII plays an important role. It's fascinating to learn about how the lives of Americans were impacted by the war and the losses they suffered.

The is an amazingly complex story-line. Grunwald manages to construct it with great care and credibility. She takes an unreliable concept and makes it not only believable but magical and heartwarming. The author's note explaining the great deal of research she did adds a lot to the story.

Yet something kept this from being a Five Star read for me. The writing is not quite as rich and complex as I would expect with a story of this nature. The writing style is simple, which makes it easy to read and follow the time jumps, but at the same time that simplicity prevents it from being even more gorgeous and magical.

Overall, I highly recommend this novel. It's wonderfully readable, perfect for this summer, yet I think it'd be a great novel to read while curled up during winter too!

Many thanks to NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I was hoping this would be more time travel than it was, it was more of a ghost story than anything I think. Overall it was a great story. I love the time period it is set in and Jack was a wonderful main character. I truly felt his inner turmoil when he faced his difficult situations. The ending is a little bittersweet and not how I usually like a book to end. I couldn't really see it ending any other way though. I recommend to anyone who loves historical fiction with some romance.

The premise behind Lisa Grunwald’s ‘Time After Time’ sounded fascinating, and I was immediately drawn to it. Plus, that cover! Wow!

The writing was beautifully done. The characters felt real and you wanted to cheer them on.

However, for me, the story was slow. I wanted more action...more drama. This felt more like watching everyday life pass by in front of me. I also wanted a bit more “ghost” in my story - maybe even some Magical Realism.

For me, it’s a 3.5 star read. For those who love a character-driven story mixed with well-researched historical fiction (set before, during, & after WWII), this book is for you.

*I received an Arc in exchange for an honest review.**
So I had such high expectations for this book. A ghost story but not exactly. A time travel story but not really.
There were parts of this novel were so well done. But the characters. They were just so wishy washy. The hero is rather feckless and gets involved in relationships that are completely inappropriate. I was hoping for an epic love story with paranormal aspects but I got a love story with other worldly interference and a man who could not decided what he wanted

Hands down one of the best books I've ever read. Joe and Nora will forever hold a special place in my heart. I already want to reread it.

Time After Time, by Lisa Grunwald, is an unusual love story of two devoted people, committed to each other, and yet constrained by time and space from living the life they want. The story takes place primarily within the confines of New York’s Grand Central Terminal, and covers the decades spanning the Depression and World War II.

This is a challenging novel to review without indulging in spoilers, which I refuse to do. I will say that this is not really a time travel book. It does remind me a bit of The Time Traveler’s Wife, by Audrey Niffenegger. If you enjoyed that book, this book may be perfect for you.

I found the plot just a tad repetitious. All of the characters are likeable, but not as compelling as the setting. Seeing how the Grand Central Terminal changed through the decades was fascinating. Thanks to NetGalley and Random House for the opportunity to read an electronic ARC in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 rounded up

Are you a Historical fiction fan? Do love a great romance? If so, this is the book for you. I was instantly drawn in because of Joe's character. He was someone who knew what he wanted without little regard to the opinions of others. He fought to have Nora in his life and his love for her will make the coldest of hearts warm. Their love story isn't like others, but that's what makes it so great. Their love transcends time, social class, and it's selfless to its core. Nora is an equally loveable character. She's feisty, independent, and incredibly caring. She is a woman that knows what she wants and won't let anyone change her mind.

This author hit it out of the ballpark with her character development and plot. I stayed up way past my bedtime to read this one and I don't regret it one bit. The only reason I didn't give this book 5⭐ is because I wanted a POV from Joe towards the end of his life. I wanted to know where he ended up and if he regretted anything. While I want to say so much more, I'll stop here so you have a chance to experience all of its greatness for yourself. Seriously go get your own copy now, you won't regret it.

I really enjoyed this unexpected love story between Joe and Nora, against the amazing backdrop of Grand Central Station during WW2. These characters were lovely, their story was unique, and the ending was spot on. I loved that this book was inspired by an actual experience, and I can’t wait to look up photos of Grand Central during this time period. All in all, this book was a gem.

Thanks to the publisher and Net Galley for providing me a copy for an honest review.

Time After Time is a magical and charming book that takes place in the historical Grand Central Station in New York City. Spanning the Great Depression and World War II, this novel is about the love between a railroad operator (lever man) and a woman who supposedly died in a horrific train crash in 1925. The story is captivating and the characters are memorable. Even the cover is a work of art.

This is a book I couldn’t put down and yet I didn’t want it to end. Against the backdrop of the magnificent train station, the reader will meet a variety of characters that help to shape the story. The writing itself is exquisite, and the tale is warm and unique. The heartbreak of war, the resilience of the people involved and the sacrifices they make are woven into an unforgettable story.

I thoroughly enjoyed Time After Time and I highly recommend it. Thank you Ms Grunwald for giving me such reading pleasure.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.

I really wanted to like this book more than I did. The characters fell in love immediately with almost no character development, so I felt blah about them the entire time. The pacing was too slow and I can’t get over the thought of intimate relations with a ghost....

Joe is a leverman at Grand Central Station when his life changes upon a chance meeting with Nora. I loved this story and felt like I was living in the World War II and post World War II era in New York City. Most of the novel takes place in Grand Central, and the reader is given a unique look into the history of that building, while the love story between Nora and Joe is absorbing. Between the characters, the sense of place and history, this is one of my favorite books this year. It's a must read!

I love the premise of Nora vanishing from Grand Central Station as well as the potential love story with Joe. I enjoyed the uncertainties of not knowing if they could make their love work. However, I felt that the pace was so slow, the plot felt repetitive and not a whole lot was happening. At times, their romance seemed filled with cliches and I found myself feeling bored. I wanted to like it and stay invested but the style and execution of the storyline just weren't for me. Part of my issue could have been that I didn't feel as invested in the characters as I would've liked. Not sure if this was due to lack of character development or plot issues.

Set between the 1920s and the 1940s. While at Grand Central Station in New York City, Joe Leverman meets Nora, a girl who appears to be lost and out of place in a flapper dress. As he inquires about her, he discovers that she died in an accident at the station years earlier. As time goes on, she appears again, always on the same day, but never for the same amount of time. He starts to have feelings for her, but how can they be together? Will Joe be able to solve the mystery and be with his love? The characters are easy to love and draws the reader into the story. The romance is sweet and mixes well with the mystery element of the plot. Fans of the movie, Somewhere in Time will enjoy reading this book.
