I have realized in the past couple of years that I am super intrigued by the premise of time travel. That being said, this book fell a little flat for me. Let me couch this in the fact that while reading this book I was in a bit of a reading funk, so that could have influenced me, but I was never dying to pick up this book and find out what happened next. I did like the characters in general, but I wanted to know them a bit more deeply to really care about them. And the time travel is not time travel in the “traditional” sense, so I was a bit sad about that element not being what I wanted it to be. I did enjoy learning more about Grand Central terminal and Manhattanhenge. I enjoyed getting a glimpse of what New York was like during WWII, and I was pleased with the ending of this book.

You can’t always choose the one you will love. Sometimes love finds you and decides to scoop you up, pairing you off with someone you’d least expect. But what if the love of your life isn’t alive and limitless love suddenly becomes limited?

Time After Time is a captivating and magical journey of historical fiction. The novel fosters a love affair that knows no boundaries of space and time. Lisa Grunwald paints an enchanting world where the living and the departed merge to create a present world that is love-filled, albeit brimming with sacrifice. What happens when love chooses us, despite the fact that the choice isn’t easy?

I loved this reading journey...loved the characters and how they navigated within the world and life they created. The story was a fast read, entertaining, charming and tugged on the heartstrings. This is a tale of sacrifice and how the choices we make greatly impact the happiness of the people who mean the most to us. Thank you to Netgalley, Lisa Grunwald, and Random House for providing me the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Joe and Nora's great love story is doomed from the beginning. She should not be on the platform of Grand Central Station, and when Joe finds her there they capture a small lifetime of stolen moments. This is about finding love against all odds, and letting it go when those odds overwhelm its chance of survival.

I enjoyed the unusual premise of this book, although the exact physics of the mystery itself escaped me. This was an enjoyable read with engaging characters.

Take one part Benjamin Button, one part Age of Adaline, and one part a history of Grand Central Station. Stir together and you have Time After Time.

Joe is a leverman in 1937 in New York’s Grand Central Station. When he meets Nora, a confused young lady without either luggage or coat, he offers to walk her home. Along the way she vanishes. A year later, they meet again. She is still wearing the same tattered blue dress. Once Joe and Nora discover the restrictions of Nora’s universe, they begin to fall for each other. But Nora doesn’t age and Joe was already ten years older than her in 1937 making their future together uncertain.

I liked the three main characters of this novel: Joe, Nora, and most of all Grand Central Station. The history of the Station drew me in even more than the plot. As a frequent reader of thrillers, Time After Time seemed to move at a snail’s pace in the middle third. However, that may just be me. I also didn’t enjoy the ending of Joe and Nora’s love story. For literary or historical fiction readers, the pacing will probably be fine. In the author’s Q&A at the end of the book, the author explains that most of the story is based on true stories merged together. If you are a fan of historical romance, this is a good choice. 3 stars!

Time After Time is one of those rare books that ticks all my boxes - historical fiction, romance, some magic - and does it in a way that is captivating and entertaining.

Nora died in a train accident at Grand Central Station in the 1920s. Or did she? She and Joe meet in the station a few years later and he is enchanted by her vivacious personality. There’s just something different about her, and the two fall in love.

I absolutely loved this book. The character development was strong, the level of historical detail just right. The author clearly researched the time periods and location carefully.

Overall, this was a quick read for me because I couldn’t put it down, and I enjoyed every moment. Highly recommended!

Lisa Grunwald's Time After Time is an unusual story of a love which transcends time and death. The author has managed to capture the essence of New York’s Grand Central Station as it was in the late 1930’s as she spools out the story of Joe Reynolds, employed as a leverman at the station and Nora Lansing the woman he meets on the main concourse one fateful day in 1937. Joe soon learns that Nora died in a train accident in 1925 but returns each year during Manhattanhenge (yes, it’s a real thing that occurs during summer solstice every year…. Who knew).

I will not go into the many aspects of the trials and tribulations of their supernatural love story or the equally interesting narrative concerning Joe’s brother Finn or the other peripheral characters lest it ruin the read for you. Just know that if you are intrigued by WWII stories, like to discover new and incredible historical facts about places, enjoy books involving time travel, the supernatural, romance, or are a fan of Richard Matheson’s SOMEWHERE IN TIME or WHAT DREAMS MAY COME- - this is very likely the book for you.

A unique love/ghost story - I couldn't put it down! Will be recommending it to local library patrons through the library's social media feed.

This book starts in Grand Central Terminal in NYC in 1937, when railroad employee Joe meets a beautiful young woman named Nora at Grand Central, and then she mysteriously disappears when he tries to walk her home - only to reappear on the exact same day a year later. Without giving any spoilers, it quickly becomes apparent that there is something supernatural going on, yet Joe and Nora are drawn to each other nonetheless. I loved the concept of the book, but unfortunately not the execution - the book was just a little slow and boring and didn't emotionally engage me the way I wished it would. As someone who commuted through Grand Central for a bunch of years, I did very much enjoy the setting.

I am wavering on my recommendation of Time After Time. It suffered a little from a lack of balance. To me, the factual history aspects at times took over the story, which is at it's heart, a romance. The characters are likable enough, which makes it easier to look kindly on their romance. The secondary characters arent as strong as I would have liked, which made them a bit forgettable. The premise was intriguing, magical reality is a favorite. I guess for me, there was more reality than magic in this novel. If you like a slow read, but not necessarily an easy one, I think Time After Time fits the bill. I am glad I read it. I really did appreciate the thoroughness with which Ms. Metcalf obviously researched the time frames and settings. I would read more from her. 3.5

So many time travel novels, so little time! This one is a keeper. A delightful and unexpected romance made possible through a quirk in time and place. I read an ARC of Lisa Grunwald's Time After Time courtesy of NetGalley and PenguinRandomHouse. . Inspired by the legend of a woman who vanished from Grand Central Station after a train wreck, the magical story sweeps us from the 1920s to World War II and beyond. In 1937, Joe a railroad worker meets Nora, a somewhat confused socialite seemingly from the 1920s, Transfixed by her charm, Joe tries to walk her home but she mysteriously disappears. Finding and being with her propels Joe into her astonishing story - she doesn't belong to his time but she is trapped in it. Well, not quite, she is trapped in the station and a few blocks around it.

What i like about Time after Time is that it offers no simple solutions to the quagmire of a life frozen forever in time. While life moves on for Joe, nothing ever changes for Nora. She learns to adjust to an ever changing world while the one person she deeply cares for grows old without her. It is a bittersweet love story with an ending that doesn't cheapen or betray the beautiful story which precedes it.

The story line sounded really appealing and then when compared to the time travelers wife I was drawn to this book and excited to read it - the story itself was drawn out and boring at times - there were other small storylines that never really played into the main plot and the characters were not loveable - it took me a long time to read because there was nothing drawing me in

An interesting take on time travel! Joe and Nora make a sweet pair that have to deal with the constant possibility of losing each other. Having this told starting from the 1930’s was very interesting and I enjoyed the tastes and sights and sounds the author delivers.

“Time After Time” is a magical love story spanning a couple of decades in New York City. On a December morning in 1937, Joe Reynolds meets Nora Lansing in Grand Central Terminal. Nora, mysteriously dressed in her 1920’s garb, seems out of place and time. After disappearing on Joe the night after they meet, Nora continues to appear in Joe’s life for the years to come as they embark on an epic and timeless love story.

Manhattanhedge occurs twice a year, around the time of the winter and summer solstices, where the sunrise and sunset align with the streets of Manhattan. Nora is connected to the workings of Terminal City, and the timings of the Manhattanhedge, as she lives out her life within limits.

This captivating novel is full of enchantment, history, and love. I enjoyed the setting of New York and the historical side of the story set in the time of the Depression and World War II. The storyline was creative and interesting, and I would recommend this book.

This is a very bittersweet book about love and being lost the inbetween. I loved the thought of it and the descriptions of Grand Central Station made me feel as if I were there. I honestly did not fall in love with the couple, maybe that was my problem in reading in it.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book.

Ok, I did not see that coming. Usually, when a character does something unexpected near the end of a book, it means that the author has written herself into a corner that she can't get out of without someone having an epiphany or just acting way out of character or something. But in this case, the behavior totally felt like something the character would do, even if I wasn't expecting it. I won't even tell you which character does the unexpected thing, so read the book to find out. It's worth it all the way through.

An improbable love story between a hardworking railroad man and a ghost. Nora Lansing appears suddenly in the lobby of Grand Central Terminal in 1937. She seems disoriented and isn't carrying a suitcase nor was she wearing a coat. Joe, on his way to his job, notices her and approaches to see if she needs assistance. She doesn't and he can't help thinking about her when she leaves. One year later he encounters her again and she is dressed in the same clothes still without a coat. When he starts to walk her home and she disappears right in front of his eyes, he is not sure what is going on. Joe learns that Nora Lansing was killed in a subway accident below the Terminal in 1925 and she is locked in some kind of limbo. A lovely story with Manhattanhenge and Grand Central's history mixed in.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.75 stars— Time After Time by Lisa Grunwald

Thank you to Random House and Netgalley for a copy of this book! ❤️

One day Nora appears at Grand Central where Joe works. And after talking with her she disappears. This happens each year at the same time. Nora died in 1925 yet here she is in the 1930s. How did she get here and how can Joe keep her here so they can be together?

What I loved: I really loved the characters (except Faye). Joe and his love for Nora was deep and real and made me emotional times. Nora’s love for Joe and understanding of what he needed made me extremely emotional at times. I loved how Grundwald carried out the plot because I found it to be original and loved how it tied into history! But that ending. That’s all I’ll say!

What I didn’t: I know Faye’s role in this story but I did not like her at all. Also, what put this below four stars for me was the slowness of the plot movement at times. Parts 2& 3 felt like an absolute eternity and I felt myself putting the book down. Parts 4 & 5 made up for that small blemish whole heartedly.

Recommend for anyone who loves historical fiction love stories and slight magic in their story!

Joe first meets Nora standing near the great gold clock in Grand Central Station in 1937. He's a lever man for the trains, and she's a refined young woman. Instantly smitten, this book tells the story of the unconventional romance of Joe and Nora. It shows the sacrifices made when life presents obstacles that may be impossible to overcome.

The characters in this book are so well drawn, you'll want to invite them to dinner in the diner... and have everything but coffee. We love Joe's pragmatism, and Nora's artistic, get it done attitude. We love how character matters regardless of circumstance, for both of them.

Grand Central itself, in its prime, is the only setting that really matters, and it is fascinating to learn the inner workings of such an important hub through the eyes of an insider. I finished the book a week ago, and already wish i could go back.

"Time After Time" tells the love story of Joe and Nora who meet during the Depression in Grand Central Station. She looks out of place and he, a leverman for the railroad, offers assistance in getting her back to her home in Turtle Bay. But as they walk toward her neighborhood, Nora vanishes, leaving Joe behind confused and smitten.

A year later, Joe is walking to work when he spots Nora again, in the same spot wearing the same clothes. He eventually finds out that Nora is time traveling (I won't spoil why) and that when she leaves Grand Central Station, she disappears and can only return once a year during Manhattanhenge, when the sun rises in perfect alignment with the NYC street grid. The book follows the couple's story as they fall in love and attempt to find a way to live within the unique constraints of their relationship over the next decades.

I loved all of the facts and descriptions of Grand Central Station that Lisa Grunwald included in "Time After Time"(if you feel the same, you should also check out "The Masterpiece" by Fiona Davis). What was lacking for me was character development, both of the two protagonists and the secondary characters who populate Joe's Grand Central Station life. I had a hard time seeing why Joe was so obsessed with Nora and why he was so willing to give up so much for her, and not being completely invested in their love story made the book less enjoyable. After reading the author's note about the story on which this was based, I wish it had been as colorful as the tale she tells there.

I received this book from NetGalley and Random House in exchange for an honest review - all opinions are my own.

Great setting, great idea and a brilliant execution! I loved this from beginning to end. At times, I did feel it was too long but now that I’ve finished it seems that it wasn’t long enough. If you’ve like the Grand Central Terminal building in NYC and a good love story against all odds this could be a good read for you. Starting in the roaring 20s and ending in the late 40s with an after bit many years later #timeaftertime is a gem. Thanks to #netgalley for the arc of this novel.
