I loved reading the story of Cole and Nina. A well written sweet story where they both find each other. Waiting to read the rest of the series
Thank you NetGalley for the digital ARC I am sorry to say I could not get into this book. I was upset within the first few pages when the girl let some guy kiss her after about 2 seconds of protest.
I just love the best friend's little sister AND enemy to lovers trope and this book has plenty. The chemistry between Cole and Nina is off-the-charts hot and their chemistry leapt off the page. The epilogue was a tad bit cheesy, but I love myself some cheesy epilogues, so I can't say it bothered me all that much.
If you like a steamy romance, I definitely recommend this one.
ARC received via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
I gotta say, this book was everything and nothing like I expected.
I could not put it down once I started it and did not want it to end when I got there.
An emotionally charged and heartfelt story-line that grabs you right from the start, keeping you engrossed in the love aspect and on edge while you are rooting for the team at the same time!
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Nina and Cole pretty much grew up together. While they went separate ways when we went play hockey, she's back in his life. She pretty much assumed over the years that he didn't like her. I liked these two characters alot. They have so much history, chemistry and love for each other. Its undeniable. He's her brothers best friend, he has personal issues that runs deep, so they're fighting alot of feelings. She needs his help with writing her book, and they're pretty much off limits to each other.
I enjoyed this book alot. I loved the comraderie, the relationships, the friendships with everyone in this book. Dual POVs, sweet sexy read
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was pretty disappointed in this romance novel. Barely a storyline just lots of oversexualized lines and scenes. Cole seems to like Jess because she's cute and can cook. Jess is supposed to be learning how to play hockey so she can spice up her novels but she spends so much time thinking about how hot Cole is and his package. Just another empty romance novel.
This had a very supernovella feel to it and I just did not enjoy the give and take. It was a bit stretched for me to believe and was very painful at times to read. I just wanted them to finally be real and stop the I Hate You - I Love You attitude. Writing was okay
If somebody had told me I would enjoy a Hockey romance I would not believed it. But I really really enjoyed this. It's hilarious, the main character has a wonderful best friend, the consent is always explicit, and the writing style is readable. I thought the ending was way over the top but in general I had a lot of fun with this one.
A smile-inducing, laugh-provoking, sign-worthy romantic comedy that you do not want to miss. The sizzling tension/chemistry between Cole and Nina was off the charts!!!! You could almost feel the sizzle.....I’m not kidding and the heat in this book......so steamy.....oh myyy!!! Delightfully mischievous, this book will keep you reading all night long. Can’t wait for the next book in this series as I think it’s going be one of the phenomenal series this author has written to date! I love this book so much and I have to recommend it and tell everyone to go get a copy to day as you don’t want to miss out on this book/series. Cathryn Fox is a master storyteller and has me coming back for more and more each and every time, just wish I could give more stars.
My first read by Cathryn Fox and I loved it! Who doesn’t like a good enemies to friends Romance? Nina and Cole have known each other for a long time and the push and pull keeps you on your toes! Can’t wait to read another book by this author! ***Voluntary review in exchange for an ARC***
Cocky Cole Cannon, known as the Playmaker, can smile and have panties dropping but his only focus right now is healing. After a severe concussion keeps him off the ice he's forced to limit all activities and he's going a bit still crazy. Until he's asked for a favor from the least likely person, his best friends little sister.
Nina Callaghan isn't a fan of hockey, which is odd since her brother plays in the NHL. When am amazing opportunity comes up she's got to get creative and learn hockey quickly. Approaching Cole to ask for his help should be easy, but they have a complicated relationship based on mutual dislike. Or is that hiding deeper feelings because they are off limits?
Cute and sweet story...a good in between book or when you don't want anything heavy...a bit cliche, but cute non-the-less. I look forward to the rest of the series.
Fun twist ( inside the writing world and world of hockey) Good dialogue, good character development, lovely intriguing eplilogiue
The Playmaker by Cathryn Fox is book One in the Players on Ice. This is the story of Cole and Nina.
Nina was Cole's best friends little sister and would tag along with them. Nina always thought Cole didn't like her but in fact he does more than like her. Since neither admits their feelings they settle in to a 'hate' stance where they each pick on the other. Now in the present day, Nina needs Cole's help in learning hockey for her editor has asked her to write a hokey based story.
This puts them working closely and finding out that neither dislike the other but the opposite...they each want the other.
Enjoyed their story.
So disappointed by this. Everything about the plot just fell so flat for me. I didn't buy the romance, the friendships where boring, and everything was just blah for me.
I think I was turned off by the whole "I hate hockey but I need to write a hot sexy-time hockey book so I'm going to use my brother's friend even though I hate/lust him" thing. It was a neat concept, but poorly done. Everything was just boring and dull. Nina walks around taking notes while they watch tv and cook. If I want that I can do it at my own place.
There are so many waaay better hockey romances out there. Skip this one and try something else.
Cathryn Fox is my new favorite author!
This book was amazing!
From the get-go, I was pulled in and did not want to stop reading.
Nina is an author who is given an assignment for a new book, the only downfall is she knows nothing about hockey. So she calls up her brothers best friend (both of who are in the NHL) and asks for his help to learn more about hockey. Cole has a few terms in exchange for his help.
Cole is an NHL player who is sitting out due to a concussion, going stir crazy and living off of take out. Then little BallerNina shows up on his doorstep and all that changes. She wants his help and in return he wants something.
Spending all their time together just feels natural and right. What happens when Coles concussion is gone and he is clear to play? Will his world revolve around his life long dream of the playoffs and the NHL or Pretty BallerNina?
Cole is the stereotypical hot shot hockey player. Nina is Cole’s best friends little sister. They’ve known each other their whole lives, but have they really?
This is a quick read with a great hate to love story. The book is well written, the characters are believable and endearing. I loved this book, will defiantly continue reading the series.
4.5-Stars for Book 1 of the Players on Ice series, The Playmaker.
The Playmaker, a great start to the Players on Ice Series by Cathryn Fox, Cole has crushed on Nina for years, but only from afar and only secretly, bro code and all. Nina began writing after a knee injury ended her figure skating career. Nina has avoided Cole in an attempt to hide her Cole fantasy's all these years. Since Nina is writing a series in the hockey sports romance genre, she decides to go to Cole for help, after all he is sidelined with a concussion currently. Is the temptation too much for Cole, can he adhere to the bro code? What happens when one kiss leads to more? Will Cole's best friend forgive him for blurring the lines with Nina & what if Cole confesses he wants more with Nina? Could these two possibly find a HEA? Highly recommend The Playmaker by Cathryn Fox.
I did receive a review copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley but I also had purchased the book and am voluntarily leaving my own opinion with my voluntary review.
His goals slowly changed when Nina enters his life once again. While Connor was healing from a concussion Nina seeks himput for research into understanding the game of hockey. She understands his dilemma all too well since an injury ended her figure skating career. Spending time together brings them closer together as he slowly begins to lose the fight and desires his best friend’s little sister. Growing up with Nina he maintained his distance. Now, all bets are off the table and he will finally get wha he has wanted all along. Nina.
THE PLAYMAKER by Cathryn Fox is a fun ice hockey romance. Cole and Nina grew up together, Nina's brother and Cole are best friends. Nina and Cole both had a crush on each other. Now Nina is a romance author and Cole a professional hockey player. So when Nina needs an education on hockey for an upcoming book... Cole is there to help out!
