Shalini Boland does it again! A brilliant thriller!

A woman is laying on the beach, she had almost drowned. Luckily, a girl comes over to her and calls the paramedics. The woman is brought to the hospital where she exhibits a complete loss of memory since anytime before she woke up on the beach. Eventually, the police have a contact and they are sure that she is Mia James. A man, her boyfriend, Piers, wealthy, handsome, and caring comes to visit her and take her home. The only problem is that Mia doesn't recognize him...

Piers checks out with the police, so she goes home with him - of course, where is home? She remembers nothing except erratic flashbacks of a woman who has no identifying qualities. Mia begins to go canoeing - she doesn't remember doing so, but it's a "feel good" thing she remembers how to do. There, she meets, and falls for, Jack - the canoeing instructor.

After an awful try to reunite with her mum and sister, Mia finds out that her father had left her $8,000,000. Piers shows his true colors as being a self-absorbed jerk. Mia dumps him.

Mia continues having the flashbacks of the woman. Finally, she sees a flashback of someone pulling her fingers off the ledge of a boat. Did someone want to kill her?

A superb thriller!!!

Many thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for a great read!

What can be worse than nearly losing your life, than almost drowning at sea?
Shalini Boland's The Girl from the Sea shows us exactly what - finding yourself washed out on a beach with no memories of anything. Twisty, gripping & dark, this book sure is unputdownable.
I've read The Secret Mother by Boland before and was floored away by her storytelling. This book too hits that mark, nearly. I really liked the story, the characters, the works. The plot is very engaging, fresh. And while it got predictable towards the end, I was really impressed with the descriptive picturization of the locations and the character's fascination with rowing. I definitely look forward to reading more from Shalini Boland.
Thank you Netgalley, Bookouture and Shalini Boland for an arc.

I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Girl From The Sea’ by Shalini Boland in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

A young woman is found lying in the sea on a sandy beach and is taken to hospital, but it isn’t until Piers Bevan-Price contacts the police claiming she’s his girlfriend that the woman has a name – Mia James. Mis is suffering from amnesia and remembers nothing of her old life, she doesn’t even recognise her reflection in the mirror. Following her release from hospital Mia keeps seeing flashing images of a woman who looks at her with hatred, but is it a true memory or is Mia imagining her?

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘The Girl From The Sea’ which had me hooked from page one. Shalini has certainly done her research of the place where Mia lives as Christchurch where the story is based is my home town and I recognise so many of the places that Mia visits, the road leading to the Priory with its quaint buildings, the Quay and its café, the rowing club, all the descriptions are spot on and so true to life. The story’s been well-written with a strong plot, believable characters, twists and turns, leading to a jaw-dropping conclusion. The result is a spine-chilling, tense and exciting thriller which I can wholeheartedly recommend to any reader who loves a mystery.

This book will grip you from the start. It is not especially long and all the better for it.....not because it is not good....it is excellent.... but because there is no lack of pace. So often writing fiction seems to loose it's way in order to get more words written. No so in this case. I started this book late one evening, went to sleep thinking about it and had completed it the next day as I just needed to know; how, what, who? This will keep you guessing and you won't be disappointed. A great read and will make a good film.

This is an author who for me, can do no wrong. I absolutely, blooming well lover her books!

Imagine waking up and not remembering anything about who you are or your past? I could only imagine and even then, I had no doubts about how lonely and scary it would be. I didn’t envy what had happened to Mia one bit. But then we don’t actually know why it’s happened which of course had my senses on high alert.

Well the author had me second guessing every character that appears in the story. Were they friend or foe and what were their intentions. I feel bad for thinking so poorly about them all but I knew I had to be right that one of them had something to hide, I just didn’t know which one. As the story progresses I was even more reluctant to put the book down to get on with every day life as I had to know. Everything!

The Girl From The Sea is a dark and twisted, breath taking read. Loved it, loved it, loved it! Shalini Boland is without a doubt the queen of page turning novels. She never fails to take me by surprise and always has something up her sleeve to send me reeling. I always feel on such a high with her books through the adrenaline that is coursing through me when reading them. Brilliant!

I was hooked from the onset and stayed up until the early hours to read in one sitting.
An engaging thriller ride of a novel, despite having an idea where this was heading fairly early on. The book begins when a girl is found washed up on the beach with amnesia and the reader is soon caught up in the confusion of her world, as she tries to work out who she is and find herself again. Not only has she got to contend with working out her identity and personality, but deal with the revelation that something more sinister is going on.
The first person perspective works really well and it's fun journeying along with Mia and trying to work out who is telling the truth and more importantly, who can she trust.

I'd definitely recommend this book. An engaging psychological thriller mystery.
Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for the review copy!

A story that grips you from the getgo, Mia is found on the beach, she has no knowledge of who she is or why she is there, nothing is familiar.... in the hospital, her boyfriend comes to "claim her", he's handsome yes but she has no idea who he is, as she starts to unravel her life, she is finding it difficult who to believe or what to believe! The more the story unravels, the more empathy you feel towards her situation.... and then BOOM..... explosive twists, I didn't see it coming! I love Shalini Boland's style of writing, this is not my first book by her, I get excited when I see a new one has been released.... never fails to let you down, suspenseful chilling psychological thriller that will keep you reading late into the night.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is not my first book that I read by Shalini Boland and it did not disappoint. A girl swims from the sea with amnesia. She tries to remember everything but the more she asks about her life before, the more questions she has. This kept me on the edge of my seat wondering about what happened. I did not expect that ending AT ALL!! Bravo! Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to review this book.

Mia is found injured on the beach and has completely lost her memory. After she is released from hospital she starts having dreams that lead her to believe that someone is trying to harm her.
I have read several books by this author and have enjoyed them all. I will be looking forward to reading more of her work.

Mia James was found washed up on the beach, clearly disoriented. Mia has no memory of how she got there or why she had been in the water. But even worse, Mia has no idea who she is—she only knows that her name is Mia James because the police have identified her based on a missing person report. Her boyfriend, Piers, arrives at the hospital to take her home. And even though to Mia he’s a total stranger, she has nowhere else to go.

Mia discovers that not only does she have a boyfriend named Piers, but she has a beachfront home, she spends her days rowing and she has a mom and sister in London. Although Mia has no memory of her previous life, the doctor said going about her normal routine may bring back her memories, so Mia tries to settle into this unknown life.

She visits the Rowing Club in town that she apparently frequents. She meets Jack, one of the rowing instructors, who says they used to row together often. Since Mia doesn’t have a job and lives off a large inheritance, she has a lot of time on her hands. Mia decides to start rowing with Jack almost daily. His companionship is comforting. He is understanding and doesn’t push her to regain her memories.

The more Mia gets to know the people from her life, the more she feels they are keeping things from her. It seems that Jack is the only person she can trust, her only true friend.

Not long after Mia returns home, she starts having nightmares about a woman coming after her. At first it seemed like a nightmare, but then Mia starts to believe those nightmares are actually flashbacks. And the nightmares turn into daytime hallucinations. Mia doesn’t know who she can turn to because the hallucinations make her feel mentally unstable, but Jack is always around to comfort Mia, to talk her through her hallucinations.

Mia is starting to accept that she may never regain her memories—maybe it’s a chance for her to start her life over, be anyone she wants. But maybe there’s another, darker reason she doesn’t want to remember. Mia may not want to accept that the woman she was before wasn’t as innocent as she wants to believe...

The Girl from the Sea by Shalini Boland is a fast-paced, page-turning suspense that had me hooked from the start. I love mysteries based around someone with amnesia, where they have no idea what happened to them. Because we have no idea who to trust, every person Mia encounters is a suspect to an unknown crime. I had an idea from early on who the perpetrator was—and I was right—but there was another twist at the end I couldn’t see coming. After reading several character-based mysteries lately, it was refreshing to read a heart-pumping, plot-driven suspense. So far I’ve enjoyed both books I’ve read by Shalini Boland and I can’t wait to read more. 4/5 stars.

When a woman is found washed up on a beach with no memory of how she got there, or even who she is , it seems like the perfect opening for a thrilling and page turning book. As our mystery woman begins to discover more about who she is, she has to figure out who she can trust, as a blank slate she needs to be careful not to let anyone else write her story for her.
This was an amusing and entertaining book, and I particularly enjoyed the first half of the book, as our protagonist is slowly figuring out who she really is ,and which of the people in her life she can trust. The author has done a good job of giving us plenty of characters to wonder about alongside Mia, and there is definitely some fun to be had in figuring out their motivations. Unfortunately I was able to predict a lot about the ending of the book, and suspect that many other readers will too, but that does not mean I enjoyed the book any the less. Its a fast paced and fun read.
I read and reviewed an ARC courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher, all opinions are my own.

This book is about a girl who emerges from the water with no memory about how she got there and who she is. Finally a man that she is dating comes to the hospital and tell her he is her boyfriend but they do not live together but are dating. She finds out her name and goes to visit her mother and sister who is her half sister because they have different fathers. She finds out that her father recently died and left her a huge inheritance, but only to her because her mother was not with him and it is not her half sister's father. She finds a lot of negative behavior especially from her half sister who finally tells her with all the millions she was let she only gave them a very small amount of money and left and moved to a very expensive area and bought a home. She still remembers nothing. The book continues like this with her having no memory but a vision of a woman also in the sea. She also breaks up with the man she was dating who found her and told her who she was. She begins to go to this rowing club because she thinks that is where she might regain her memory being that she came out of the water. She begins to become friends the the rowing instructor and begins to really care for him. I will not go further with my review because I do not want to give away any spoilers. I just want to say this book was terrific as all Shalini Boland books are. I never saw the twist coming and this was a true psychological thriller. Another winner from Shalini and I want to thank net galley for this ARC I received for a honest review. I highly recommend this book.

4 stars for me !!!!

Buckle up for a mind boggling thriller of a ride.

Mia has been found on shore and has no memory of who she is.

Her boyfriend, or is he, identifies her as Mia James.

Thus starts her new life , trying to figure out her past, her future. Who can she trust.

Twists and turns you won't see coming. You might suspect but you won't be 100 per cent right.

I will certainly be adding to my to read list with more of Shalini Boland's books.

Thanks to Net Galley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read The Girl from the Sea.
