Great story from Diane Alberts. Sam accidentally bids on Taylor at a charity auction. He comes of as a jerk but agrees to the date. She gives Taylor a hard time in the beginning but he is very intrigued with her. I love how long their “first date” lasted. He really was a good guy and was doing everything to get her to open up about herself. I felt hurt for Sam when she saw that envelope. But, Diane gave me the HEA that I love. This book had great dialogue, a cool story, steam, chemistry and the HEA. I received a copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest, voluntary review.
Ever since I read my first Diane Alberts book (Temporarily Yours) I've been a fan and I was so happy when this book became available to read and review for NetGalley since it's been awhile since I've read one of her books. This was such an enjoyable, easy, fun and flirty, sexy read! An Accidental Date with a Billionaire was everything I love most about her writing -- I connected with Taylor and Sam immediately and I liked the different take on the whole billionaire auction storyline. Taylor was so swoon-worthy and incredibly easy to like, even with his control issues. Quick, enjoyable contemporary romance read that I would definitely recommend. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.
At first I really disliked Taylor but as the book continued, I found I liked him better. Samantha was kind of the opposite for me. I liked her in the beginning but less as the stilettos progressed. This was a good concept and the execution was good, I just couldn’t really connect with the characters.
4 stars
Diane Alberts Always Delivers. This starts out with a woman who has remade herself, running away from the sins of her father and mother. Think Madoff Ponzi scheme level of fraud. She was left by her parents to be put into foster care and had to work all by herself to become the woman she is now.
She is one who sees and seeks joy in everything. She works for a nonprofit which assists companies which are on the verge of bankruptcy and tries to help them hold things together. She volunteers at soup kitchens, builds with Habitat for Humanity and gives of her time to many other charities all the while never dating. She lives very different than the past wealth she knew and is happier for it.
Now she is stuck at a Billionaire Action for charity because her best friend's brother hates being in this deal. She is there to bid on him and then leave. Unfortunately, men's places in the schedule changed and our gal bids on the wrong man...
Both of these people are relationship scared so when they decide to have a "date", it should work...only the date is so great... our no commitment guy wants this One Date to keep on going...
Interesting idea and Albert makes it work.
Samatha is at a charity bachelor auction to bid on her bffs brother as a favor. But accidentally bids on the wrong guy. Unable to take the billionaires attitude she decides to teach him a lesson by taking him to Habitat for humanity for their date. But it seems that the lesson is for her, not to judge a book by its cover.
This was a delightful, fun and quick read. And the chemistry is sizzling HOT. I really liked Taylor. He was a sexy softie and just stole my heart. Overall an enjoyable read.
This was enjoyable escapism. Who hasn't wanted a good date to keep going? Though I've experienced the euphoria of a good date, chemistry, attraction, etc., I don't think I've read about a couple trying to stay on their 1st date. I liked the story and hated to take a sleep break. Thankfully, I finished it the next day. If the author is planning some future stories that feature Izzy and her brother, I'm hoping she'll spin solid storylines to support them.
Good book, interesting story line
Kept me hooked and readying
This is my first book by Diane Alberts
I look forward to more
The blurb of this book had me already smiling, so I requested the arc. And I was not disappointed. The plot of the story about Samantha, who grew up rich and is now living as a 'commoner' and Taylor, who is a billionaire. What Sam doesn't know, is that Taylor wasn't born with a silver spoon (like she did) and he had to fight his way to the top. So, when Sam wants to teach him a lesson, by dragging him to Habitat for Humanity to serve soup, she gets the surprise of her life when Taylor actually knows the people working there.
So, a nice twist in the story and it keeps on twisting. In all, a very entertaining and cute read. Never judge a book by its cover... Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
Great read - super hot, kept me engaged and a fun twist to the very popular "Billionaire Romance" stories. Well done - definiatley recommend it.
This was a fun, light and entertaining read.
The blurb pretty much gives away the plot and the book did keep me engaged in the story, the author's writing style and pave was good and as I said it did keep me entertained but I think my rating would have been higher if not for the heroine. She sure has some good qualities but I felt she had the least development and growth, that she was too caught up in her issues and I would have liked to see a bigger change in her; on the contrary I really liked the hero, Taylor, it was easy to fall for him.
Overall, "An Accidental Date with a Billionaire" is a sweet and quick read, I certainly look forward to reading more books from Diane Alberts.
I did enjoy this book. And the thought of a first date never ending. Sam and Taylor are from different backgrounds but make it.
This is the first work I read by Diane Alberts and it will not be the last. Granted, if you are the kind of reader that cannot CANNOT suspend some disbelief, first of all, why are you reading romance, and two, get over it. The truth is that no, it's not a good idea to do A LOT of the things Sam lets herself do in this story, but you gotta put all that to the side and really pay attention to what the story is saying.
This story was sexy. SEXY. Steamy. Lovely. There is no denying any of that, but what I enjoyed the most was Alberts' way of creating flaws in her characters - real flaws. The hesitation and downright inability to trust, and the stubbornness to the point of OCD-ness of wanting to remain in control of EVERYTHING. These are real honest-to-heaven flaws that humans have to live with and Alberts' allows her characters to have them (and so much more, really). The absolute cherry on top for me (aka my FAVORITE THING) was *SPOILER OMG DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU* that Taylor was able to throw caution to the wind with Sam and be able to live in the moment instead of having every moment planned and counted for. He was able to BE PRESENT and strive towards having what he wants instead of believing he doesn't love or need love or want love. It was truly a wonderful transformation to read about. Yes, I liked Sam to an extent, but Taylor was the character I most enjoyed and found myself being so proud of.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I love the idea of having a never ending first date. This book was intriguing and it was fun to follow their love story.
Just like I anticipated, this was a quick, light read that kept me entertained.
I like the writing style. The plot is interesting, the pace of the story is good, and it has a decent dialogue.
Definitely worth reading.
I really enjoyed this book overall, but I wasn’t entirely in love with the female main character. I was glad that Taylor wasn’t the controlling jerk he seemed to be at first glance/meeting. He was a really good guy and even though he wasn’t interested in relationships or anything beyond first dates, he was totally smitten with Sam and grew as a person.
Sam, however, did not grow. Yes, she, too, didn’t do second dates or relationships, but she let her past weight her down and she couldn’t bend in her dislike for those with money. She wanted to bring Taylor into her world but wasn’t willing to join him in his.
This is my second book by Diane Alberts and I really love her writing style. The dialogue is great, the descriptive style was crisp, which I find so overblown with many authors. I’d definitely read other books in her catalogue.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC!
I'm glad I chanced upon this gem while I was perusing through Net Galley... It's been a while since I've read a Diane Alberts novel, and I'm glad I was reminded of how awesome she is.
Taylor Jennings gave me all the feels. He was a ruthless businessman but underneath it all is a softy just waiting for the right girl to break down his walls... Samantha Matthews has a heart of gold that comes with a dark past but just waiting for the right man to love and accept her for all that she is.
I enjoyed the book. I devoured it in one day... I was surprised by how quickly I got hooked—page after page. I'd say its a quick and easy read but I do have to say that there are parts in the book that'll pull on your heartstrings, and the push and pull would probably exasperate you on some level... but all in all, it's a feel-good book. I just wish there was a longer epilogue... something about them being parents and all. It'll leave you inspired and dreaming about meeting someone like Taylor... someone who'll do whatever it takes just to keep you.
I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this book. It was a fun light read that got slightly dramatic towards the end (which most romances do).
I like the idea of how the two main characters got stuck together and their stations in life, however I find how much Sam bid on him to be slightly contradictory. She said she never had much savings and donated extra to charity and yet she had three thousand dollars spare to bid on him? Sorry, it's a silly thing to point out, it was just something that stayed with me when she was talking about her finances. Maybe she saved money and donated in bulk?
I like how the relationship progressed and how they came to find a middle ground with each other.
I just really enjoyed this book. It was just really easy to get lost in this book. I will definitely be reading more by this author.
I received an advanced reader's copy of An Accidental Date with a Billionaire by Diane Alberts from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was the first book by Diane Alberts that I have read and I was impressed with her writing even though I was not fond of her female main character.
Although I was not impressed with the protagonist, Samantha (Sam), I did enjoy the novel. My issues with Sam: I felt she was rather negative (not likeable), lacked compassion for affluent people (didn't give them a chance or care to learn about them even though she didn't like people with money who would jump to conclusions about someone less fortunate), and was overly rigid (didn't want to consider another perspective outside of her box). Since her character was supposed to be focused on helping those less fortunate, you would think she'd have more compassion and warmth, I guess. I do understand that her previous life experiences scarred her and left a mark, but it made for less than believe chemistry since I thought the male main character could have done better.
Overall, I found An Accidental Date with a Billionaire to be a decent read and I'd give it a 3 star rating. It had an interesting storyline/plot and decent dialogue even if I didn't feel the main characters' chemistry or attraction. I would definitely check out other novels by Diane Alberts to see if a different pairing would resonate more.
Overall I loved the premise of this book, nothing like a good accidental meeting and instant hatred to get the relationship off to a fiery start!
Taylor is rich beyond most people’s wildest dreams and Sam was once in the same position before having it snatched out of her hand as a teenager! After Sam accidentally bids on the wrong man at a charity auction, she is obliged to go on a date with him. Our first meeting of Taylor shows him to be a jerk and so Sam sets out to take him down a peg or two! However, that quickly backfires and she discovers that maybe there is more to him that meets the eye! Not wanting to end the date (since neither of them do second dates), they move the relationship forward rather quickly…
What frustrated me was, that while Taylor was happy to bend and acquiesce to her way of living and essentially demands on how she thought life should be lived, Sam would not do the same for him and she was pretty judgmental. I mean she would NOT be moved on anything when it came to wealth and I get that she was trying to make amends, but I felt like this stance harmed her character.
The pace of the story was good and it was an easy, mostly sweet read!
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled publishing for providing this ARC for me to review.
