Not the strongest of Jenny Colgan's superb books, but still very satisfying when you want a nice, light read, a pleasant pace, and a sweet -- if predictable -- plot. Sometimes you just need a predictable plot to escape the world's chaos and lack of connection. I wasn't crazy about the rapid shifts in POVs, and I tensed at the mindless return to the ex. Don't take me on that avenue, protagonist; I want to still like you. Lots to enjoy here. Perfect when you want a nice, little meander down a proven story path. Colgan knows how to do dialogue and that's the true strength here.
I was provided an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
What a fun, sweet romance! I have to admit that the cover drew me in first, and the fact that I love to bake helped me want to read this book. Recipes mixed into the chapters, this is a romantic with different pov's throughout the story. I wanted to shake the main character for her repeated choices with her ex, but I still enjoyed the book.
I absolutely adored this book. I loved the characters - I even loved to hate Graeme! The book centered around Issy who lost her job, and her boyfriend and decided to follow her passion and open a cupcake bakery. The book was sweet and charming, it was definitely an easy and fun read. I loved the story - it was fairly predictable but is full of the warm and fuzzies. Louis was probably my favorite character and all I wanted to do was cuddle him. I also want to bake and eat all the cupcakes now. Oh to follow my dreams too.
I have read other Jenny Colgan books and always loved them so I was thrilled to be given a copy by Netgalley.
We meet Issy who is dating her boss Graeme, A horrible man who uses people to further his own career. When he makes Issy redundant she decides to use her severance pay to open the Cupcake cafe in a little shop in Pear Tree Court. Her Grandpa Joe had been a successful baker all his life and had taught Issy well. Issy faces a battle to get her business off the ground but just as things start to go well will all her hard work be for nothing.
Issy is helped by her good friends plus Austin, the bank manager. I love the characters in this book, each with their own stories and problems. I don't want to write too much and spoil the story for others plus I have been inspired to try out some of Grandpa Joe's recipes.
I would recommend this book to everyone who loves cakes, friendship and a leading character who never gives up
A light hearted and perfect summer read (unless you are a baker and choose to.bring it into the kitchen). I always enjoy a book where the woman finds her voice and discovers her passion.. I just wish that not as much emphasis was given to Graeme's appearance as it was evident from the beginning he is a bad guy.
This is an absolutely brilliant book, I loved every second of being in Issy’s World.
I would thoroughly reccomend this book to anyone looking for a feel good, lighthearted read.
Issy has inherited her grandfather’s love of baking and enjoys taking cakes to her coworkers. When she is laid off from work by her boyfriend, who is a total jerk, she must lick her wounds and start again. Instead of finding another job as an office manager, she decides to open a café that sells pastries and coffee. Initially, she struggles but eventually is quite successful in her endeavors. When her former company and boyfriend threatens her business, she must learn to recognize her allies and accept their help. I loved Issy’s friends and neighbors. Such a sense of community is shown! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
So excited for new Jenny Colgan! This one is so sweet and fun. It's absolutely a readalike for fans of Sophie Kinsella or Keris Stainton. Romantic, funny, a delight from start to finish. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the egalley!
Thanks to NetGalley for the ecopy for my Kindle.
When Izzy no longer has a job in the cit, she takes her severance pay and opens up her own cupcake cafe, Using her grandpa's recipes along with help from other ladies of different backgrounds and personalities, the cafe opens but not without a few "bumps in the road."
This is a sweet and delightful read and the recipes are mouthwatering!
Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe is a delightful story. I always like reading Jenny Colgan, so it's not surprising that I liked it. I also love cupcakes, so that's a bonus! The story is warm hearted, light and will make you smile. It's a fast entertaining read that's well written. The characters are loveable and endearing, and you'll probably recognize them in people you know. Such a cute and charming pick me up story. Thanks to NetGalley for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
After getting made redundant from work, Issy spends her redundancy on setting up the cup cake cafe.
Along the way she meets new friends like Pearl and Caroline. Help is on hand from bank manager Austin, but will he ever be more than just her bank manager?
I received a free copy of this book in return for a review.
I really enjoyed this book and as a result have added all of Jenny Colgan’s other books to my reading list. This was a light read with enjoyable characters that you very quickly develop a connection with. So make yourself a large cup of tea with a slice of cake and curl up with this fantastic book and step into the world of the cupcake cafe. Also be prepared to want to bake by the time you’re done reading!
