As an Illinois native, I truly enjoyed this book! The pictures were fantastic, content amazing and I cannot wait to try out some of these places! Thank you Soo Park for the wonderful book!
I volunteered to give my honest review in exchange for a free copy of the book pre-publication. This book is an excellent guide for anyone living in or visiting Chicago. It lists all of the noteworthy restaurants, pubs, and bakeries and their addresses. It gives tips and sometimes prices. If you're hungry for a particular food, you will be able to find it in this book. It doesn't contain recipes. This will come in handy when my husband and I visit Chicago.
This was a great and informative book - while I knew half of the places that were referenced, I was surprised by how many I didn't know! So that was a treat. I will say the formatting of the ebook made it difficult to know where the pages would lie in a physical book, but all in all, I recommend this book for a quick reference to many of Chicago's finest!
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Warning: Do not read this book while hungry!
This book has so many beautiful pictures and that was the first and most important (to me) thing about it. Soo Park does a wonderful job of being witty and informational with her write-ups of the various restaurants she chooses, but those pictures are where she shines. If the description wasn't enough to get your mouth watering the pictures will.
I go to Chicago a few times a year and have never really been sure what restaurants are the coolest/best to go to. With this book I'm able to pick out restaurants that may be nearby and finally enjoy some great food instead of trying to be cheap and hit up tried and true favorites. I love how she categorizes them by neighborhood and even throws in bonus crawls like Doughnuts (!), Pizza (!!), and even sweets (!!!).
I found this book incredibly helpful and I will be gathering up a list for my trip to Chicago in a few weeks with my friends. The only downside is that I'm not overly familiar with the Loop, so I'm going to have to use Google Maps to figure out exactly where things are in relation to my hotel. But the maps she does provide are incredibly useful!
This book lists neighborhood eateries and recommends dishes. I am planning a day of wandering and eating! The photos are enticing-makes me want to reach in to take a bite!
I like the back story on the restaurants featured. It helps to appreciate the good food while knowing how it got there. There are even tips on how to eat a few (new to me) food items - like crawfish.
Cookbooks are fast for me to read for a simple reason - I like the recipe, I don't like the recipe, or I skip the recipe.
Here all the background information, tips and techniques were good.
Recipes were simply arranged and yes,I tried couple - and yes, they were good.
So for that I would give this book 4/5!
YUM!
Yuuuummmm! I can't wait until I visit Chicago again! I think Chicago is right up there with NYC and Cleveland (my hometown!) when it come to food! All of our cities are becoming very international and range from everyday American to ethnic to fusion. But I love visiting restaurants in all the cities I visit! I want to eat what the locals eat. This book by Soo Park is a wonderful review of 150 Chicago restaurants, a good mix of everyday, ethnic, and fusion food. There's is something for everyone who passes through, or lived in Chicago, or visits Chi-Town. I can't wait to see the actual book as my Kindle doesn't have color pictures and this books has plenty to drool on!
The photos in this book are beautiful and drool-worthy. Being just outside of Chicago, I appreciated that the author didn’t choose the same restaurants everyone writes about. She included a few tourist traps, but generally chose a wide range of restaurants to try. Everything sounded delicious and I love that she recommends secret dishes.
Being a Chicagoan, when I saw this book, I had to read it. Like most people from Chicago, I love the food here. There are so many amazing restaurants in this city. I was curious to see what restaurants made the list.
This is a fun book. I like how it is laid out by food crawls. My favorite was The Little Italy & University Village Crawl. My son’s high school is in that area, so we have eaten at many of these restaurants and are very familiar with this neighborhood.
While I knew many of the restaurants in this book, I was surprised by how many I did not know. I’m excited to try them. I appreciated all the photos of great-looking food. It made me hungry. This is the perfect book for anyone who is going to visit Chicago or for people like me, that live here and like to try new places. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
