Having spent a month in Italy with relatives and touring (my parents are both Italian) I was curious about this book that chronicled the adventures of the Brady family with 4 young kids in tow as they vacationed in Italy. It was humorous, honest and easy to read. I admired this family for taking this trip and teaching their children along the way about world history.
It was a different perspective of Italy coming from a father who took the plunge to travel with his growing family and regaling the reader with his adventures. Any parent who had traveled with kids will be able to relate. I was nostalgic as I read his account, as I always am when I read about other people's trips to Italy.
The author also gives advice and tips on how to travel with kids, mainly packing very light and bringing lots of extra money. He urges the reader to consider taking such a vacation, and although I agree that if one really wants to and worked toward that goal it may be possible, I don't think anyone can just plan a month-long vacation and have the money to do it. Europe is expensive, including Italy.
This memoir was enjoyable, funny and ode to Italy and its culture.
