K. A. Tucker does it again! Ever since I read The Simple Wild and totally fell in love with it, I knew I was going to pick up everything that she would write in the future, because her stories are so engaging and beautiful that you can’t just help but love them, so needless to say I went into Say You Still Love Me with very high expectations, and overall I have to say that indeed I was pretty surprised, because it ended up being something completely different from what I pictured in my mind.
The plot of the story was so interesting and fun, and in my opinion perfect for the summertime. It took a little bit for the story to flow, but I find that normal in contemporary romances, since it’s building those characters and that plot for the reader. Nonetheless, I found K. A. Tucker’s writing in this book incredibly detailed and engaging. I absolutely adored her way to tell a story and write descriptions, and I think she has a way to keep the reader committed throughout the entire book. I found really cool the jumps between past and present and how it was done in Say You Still Love Me. There were certain things that were addressed in the present that we had no idea how they happened until we read the flashbacks, and I think that was super clever and made me want to keep reading until I knew what in fact happened at Camp Wawa.
When it comes to the characters, I don’t know if I was surprised or not, but I definitely fell in love with them. I had a few minor issues with a couple of male behaviors at some points of the story, but for the rest of it, I was so pleased with them. They had a sense of vulnerability and realism attached to them during the entire book, and because it was told in Piper’s POV, we got to know a lot about her arc, personality traits and inner thoughts, which made it so easy to empathize or understand her.
And oh my my, that romance. I had a feeling I was going to enjoy it, but I fell head over heels for it. Not only Kyle and Piper had an explosive chemistry throughout the book that we could definitely tell by the little descriptions about gestures, but also this book was super angsty and slow burning, especially the “present” POVs. I was blow away by how much I was rooting for these characters and wanting them together, and I think they had such amazing dynamics going on between them throughout the book.
I also really adored the female friendship. I love seeing healthy friendships in books, and I think the relationship between these three girls was amazing and so precious, and it was nice to see it added to the story.
Overall, Say You Still Love Me was such an incredible story and perfect for this time of the year. I really enjoyed the plot and the characters, and their evolution throughout the story, not only as a couple but as individuals too. And after finishing this I will for sure check more of her works and read them!
Rating: 4.5
Sixteen year old Piper Calloway has grown up in a life of wealth and privilege as the daughter of a real estate magnate. She is not at all happy that her mother is forcing her to spend the summer as a camp counselor at Camp Wawa in an attempt to have her daughter meet different people and hopefully in the process, ground her a little. She has barely gotten out of the car when up drives Kyle Miller. Kyle can't be more different from Piper. It's apparent he has not enjoyed the privileged upbringing Piper has. He's arrogant and a bit of an ass, nevertheless, Piper is immediately attracted to him.
Thanks to Kyle and her new friends, Eric and Ashley, Piper is unexpectedly loving her job as camp counselor and she is falling head over heals for Kyle. The problem is, Kyle and Eric are adventurous and tend to break many camp rules, pulling Piper and Ashley along with them. Things go tragically wrong one night. Piper and Kyle are fired and sent home. Piper is heartbroken when her attempts to contact Kyle in the following weeks are futile.
Flash forward thirteen years and Piper is now vice president of her fathers company, The Calloway Group. She is strong and intelligent but struggles to gain respect from her male counterparts. Even her father seems to think she can't hold her own in the male dominated company. It doesn't help that her ex-fiance, David, inhabits the office across the hall from her. Her father adores him and refuses to terminate him. David is relentless in his attempts at a reconciliation which Piper wants no part of.
One day Piper recognizes a new security guard at the Calloway Group office building. It's Kyle, the guy from summer camp that broke her heart. Kyle doesn't recognize her, leaving her hurt and confused. He's holding on to secrets and wants nothing to do with Piper. Piper is determined to find out what is going on and begins a quest to find the truth.
K. A. Tucker's writing is beautiful and heart rendering. The story was funny, sweet, sad, unexpected and heartbreaking. It is a second chance at romance, yet circumstances and most people are against it.
I loved each character and every word and I couldn't put it down, staying up into the wee hours reading. The ending made me cry like a baby.
This is an absolute must read with all the feels.
*Thank you to K.A. Tucker, Atria Books and NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange of my honest review.
You know a book is good if I’m cutting my gym time in half so I can go home and finish it.
I fell in love with KA Tucker’s writing last year after reading The Simple Wild. When I saw this as a galley I was not expecting to receive it but you don’t know unless you throw your hat into the ring. I am very thankful to NetGalley, the Author and the publisher for allowing me access to this title in exchange for an honest review.
This novel had a lot of things going for it.
Dual Timeline. I am a sucker for going back and forth in time. Getting a storyline in pieces and then watching those pieces come together at the end is a beautiful thing. The downside is that I sometimes enjoy one more than the other and that was the case with this book. I preferred watching young love flourish as opposed to reading about them reconnecting as adults. Not a fault of the author, just a personal preference and I’m not the biggest fan of a second chance romance. If that’s your jam, this is your book!
The Setting. Half of this book is set at a summer camp and I’m a sucker for that. I love the atmosphere and excitement that the author provided. I felt like I was apart of it all.
The Characters. Piper was a solid main character. Likable, which is important. A driven career woman but also kind and funny. The side characters were equally as enjoyable. The author did a fantastic job of portraying strong female friendships. I appreciated that a lot. Christa and Ashley were very distinct to me and had stand out personalities. It wasn’t like the main character had two best friends that were interchangeable or blurred together lol if that makes sense.
There are also some not so desirable characters in this book but that is on purpose and understandable.
The worst critique I can give is that I just felt blah about the love interest. I was so invested in him when they were younger and at camp but in the present day as an adult ... meh.
The Romance. The romance was great and very front and center during the one timeline represented in this book. I was shipping it so hard. Love a forbidden romance. Second half present day I could take it or leave it. I sometimes felt like it took a backseat to all the other things going on in this book. It was well written but with a title like Say You Still Love Me I thought it would be more romance driven.
I hate to say this but... it was middle of the road for me. I’ll soon forget this book but I won’t be giving up on the author. I’ll either pick up her next release or pull from her back list ♥️
Say You Still Love Me is my first K.A. Tucker novels and it certainly won't be my last.
There was so much that I loved about this book- the fact that the chapters alternate between the past and the present, that it is a second chance romance, that our main character is a badass in a male dominated business, that half the novels is set at a summer camp, etc, etc. It also didn't hurt that the two main characters had a ton of chemistry! I did feel like there relationship was going around in circles and could be frustrating to read about at times, but I actually think that is quite realistic. Relationships are complicated.
Overall, I highly recommend this one and the author's past novels just moved higher up on my TBR!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this digital ARC.
4.5 stars.
Where can I begin with this one? It starts with a woman in power knocking a man down a peg so I'm immediately interested. It just gets better from there. Piper Calloway is a strong woman who knows what she's capable of, even if she's in the shadow of her father. Her character is sassy yet loving and won't let people step on her. We first hear about how Piper is in the business world before learning about her love life. She runs into her first love, Kyle, and things only become more interesting from there. Kyle is from the opposite sides of the track but trying to do his best. He has a sordid past and a family history he has a hard time escaping from. The story goes back and forth between when Piper and Kyle first met as counselors at camp to the present where they begin to reconnect. Every aspect of this story caught my attention. From the build-up of what happens to a supporting character in the past to the shady business doings of one of the partners of Piper's company. It's well-written with good humor, great angst, and a little bit of heartbreak. Piper and Kyle have chemistry leaping off the pages from beginning to end and you're rooting for them the entire time. The supporting characters are consistent and I love that Piper's friendship with them lasts from camp to present. The story flows and there's never a moment where you're bored. This is my first foray into K.A. Tucker's writing and it definitely won't be my last. I read this book in one night and that is the epitome of a good book.
There’s just something so sweet and beautiful about first love. That all encompassing and consuming love that stays with you your entire life. Say You Still Love Me captured that innocence and purity so well, bringing back memories of youthful, carefree days.
I loved slowly unraveling Piper and Kyle’s story. The book alternates between the past and the present and I loved the chapters at Camp Wawa and seeing their connection grow (and sadly abruptly end). It was heartbreaking to see them struggle to reconcile the past and attempt to find closure 13 years later. Wondering if what happened that summer left an indelible mark on the other as well. This was definitely an emotional read as the past comes full circle and hard truths are revealed. Some of the story played out exactly as I predicted, but there was a twist or two that left my heart hurting. This is my first book by KA Tucker, but her writing was heartfelt and poignant and I can’t wait to read more.
*I voluntarily read an advance review copy of this book*
Easily one of the best books I have read this summer. As always, K.A. Tucker does a fantastic job of creating strong, realistic, and likeable characters. Switching between the present and a summer 13 years ago, we learn the story of how Piper and Kyle met at summer camp. Piper is the heir to an empire while Kyle grew up on the wrong side of the tracks. Over the course of he camp, Piper and Kyle fell in love, but a horrible accident happens, and Kyle disappears. Piper cannot stop thinking about Kyle. Out of the blue 13 years later, Kyle starts working in one of Piper's buildings, and the sparks start flying again. But can Kyle and Piper forgive each other and themselves to rekindle a relationship? Or will their pasts continue to haunt them?
I flew through this book! A couple of parts reminded me of other books that I read recently, but I guess that is bound to happen at some point? I would definitely recommend for a great summer read.
I love K.A tucker's romance novels and I really enjoyed this one!
I loved the different timelines & seeing the romance between these two characters come together and fall apart and come back together.
I also loved the camp setting! It was so fun watching them fall in love during the summer as camp counselors!
I didn't have any expectations when I went into reading this novel but if I did, my reading experience and enjoyment for this novel would have surpassed them all.
When it comes to the summer, I find that there's always this feeling of nostalgia that surrounds the season. That's half of the reason why I love to read books set in summer because there's something that is just so enchanting and charming about stories set in that season. It's a reminder of youth and all of the adventures that happened then but at the same time, reminds me to reflect and appreciate small (and big) moments in summer now. This novel captured all of those feelings and all of that nostalgia fully but again, at the same time brought the reader forward to how things can change over time.
Without a doubt, this may be my favourite read for the summer. If not a sole favourite, definitely a contender. I know I will be recommending this book all around. There's something about a romance and summer that just fits. Add on the trope of a 'first love' and I am set!
Some may possibly argue about the logistics or the reality of this story but I definitely was not one to nitpick through the details. It was a story about young love and whether it be realistic or not, I loved it.
After reading this, I want to go out and do a binge shop of K.A. Tucker's other novels. This was my first read of hers and I know it will leave a lasting impression. I'm looking forward to reading more from her and am restraining myself so I can make her novels last.
***Thank you to the publisher for supplying me with a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review***
Say You Still Love Me by K.A. Tucker follows the thirteen year story of Piper and Kyle. Piper grew up incredibly wealthy as her father builds and develops most of the areas architecture. She's a 29 year-old VP and preparing herself to take over the company when she runs into a new security guard in the building lobby and swears it's her old camp love Kyle. THE Kyle, who broke her heart thirteen years ago and never spoke to her again. And when approaches him in the lobby her appears not to recognize her at all.
The timeline jumps back and forth from Camp WaWa in 2006 to the present. Piper's mother who comes from her own humble beginnings insist that Piper spend the summer working as a counselor at Camp Wawa to gain some perspective. While 16 year-old Piper isn't thrilled about it, her attitude quickly changes when she meets Kyle, another counselor at camp that summer. Kyle appears to be the "bad boy" with some skeletons in his closet but he reciprocates her interest. You follow along on their journey and experience all of their first together during their one magical summer.
Back in present day, Piper finds her heart right back where it was 13 years ago and unable to forget Kyle. No matter what she tries she can't seem to get over it, nor does she want to. Could their feelings from that one summer a decade ago be rekindled or was it just a summer fling?
I LOVED this one. I read it in one shot and stayed up till 2:45 AM to finish it. K.A. Tucker has such an incredible way of not only telling a love story but creating a world where you care about everyone in the periphery as well. This book brought me right back to being 12 years old at Camp Rotary, my first sleep-away camp. All the butterflies, nervousness and excitement. It was so nostalgic weaving back in time to see Piper and Kyle's past unfold. Their love story is a slow burn, both in past and present but the build up was half of the charm. You'll find yourself flashing back to all of your own firsts as you follow through theirs. For lover's of romance who like getting sentimental - this one's for you! Make sure you grab your copy when it releases Aug 6, 2019! // ☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️
"I snap, because I'm feeling like a fool right now. A sixteen-year-old pining fool. A fool still in love. But, I have to accept that all I'm in love with is a memory."
Say You Still Love Me is a sweet, second chance romance. It's a story of firsts and one unforgettable summer.
Say You Still Love Me follows the story of Piper and Kyle. When we first meet up with Piper, we see that she's made quite a name for herself. She's prepping to take over her father's company and shares an amazing apartment with her two best friends. The downside, she's working in a man's world and has to try extra hard to prove that she's got what it takes to get the job done. Piper's life is filled with challenges, and little does she know that her world is about to get turned upside down one more time. A blast from her past just so happens to be the newest security guard of her office building. The boy who had all of her firsts and disappeared without another word. Now, she has to see him every single day. She's got a lot of unanswered questions, but can't get Kyle off of her mind. She's determined to make him own up to his actions, but only time will tell if she can handle what Kyle has got to tell her....
Say You Still Love Me was a quick and enjoyable read for me. I loved getting swept up in Kyle and Piper's story. I really enjoyed getting to see their past and seeing how Piper met her current roommates. Who would have known that one summer would not only break her heart, but provide her with long lasting friendships?
I really enjoyed the grown up version of Piper. While she still wanted to prove herself to her father and make him proud, she was much more mature and direct. She didn't hold back on what she was thinking and wasn't going to let anyone take advantage of her. And then we have Kyle. I absolutely adored him. He was the boy from the wrong side of town, who had a heart of gold. Even as an adult, his past still haunted him, but that didn't stop him from trying to be what Piper deserved. Sure, he made some bad decisions, but when I finally got all the answers, I had a better understanding of why Kyle acted the way he did. He wasn't perfect, and I think that made me love him even more.
As I previously stated, I really enjoyed getting to know Piper and Kyle. Not just as adults, but also as young adults. I loved seeing them fall for one another and then be reunited once again. The second time around, their story had more of a slow burn to it. Yes, they knew each other. Yes, the chemistry was still there. But, both of them were afraid to jump in with both feet and it really felt good watching them try to figure their feelings out.
Overall, I found this book to be a really enjoyable read. It entertained me and had me devouring all the words. I loved the bad bad/wrong side of the tracks vibe. Piper and Kyle couldn't have been more opposite, but somehow they just worked. The road to happily ever after for these two had quite a few bumps in the road, but I loved every single second of it. In the end, this story left me with a smile on my face and totally satisfied with the story of Piper & Kyle....
This is a second-chance romance about a hero and heroine who initially met at age 17 while working as summer camp counselors. Now Piper and Kyle meet again when Kyle starts working as a security guard in the office building owned by Piper’s father. I love second-chance romances and really enjoyed the past timeline chapters. Unfortunately the present day storyline didn’t captivate me the same way and it took a while for Piper and Kyle’s relationship to get going. Still, it was a solid contemporary romance with moderate steam level. I loved the author’s writing style so will definitely check out her other books.
Releases August 6!
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the free digital copy in exchange for an honest review.
Lord, but this book felt like a hefty heaping of nostalgia and a re-visit to my teenage self and those carefree summers of first love. That's where this story stands out for me. It was hard not to get caught up in those feelings as they rekindled between Piper and Kyle, and there were certainly moments that took my breath away here.
That said, it wasn't a perfect reading experience for me. I struggled a bit with the pacing. I found myself bored at times and skimming to move things forward. Then, just as quickly I'd be sucked back in, reading voraciously and feeling my heart connecting. It just wasn't consistent. And I didn't get enough from either Piper or Kyle to really FEEL their love story at the level I wanted to be feeling it. I felt a little bit on the outside looking in, and sometimes I was charmed and my heart went all aflutter. Other times I was impatient and wanting a deeper connection.
However, I did like the way the story unfolded. Flashbacks can be a tricky thing, but I enjoyed the time spent at Camp Wawa and the sort of authentic feeling of first freedom and first love. Set against present time as secrets were revealed and feelings were rekindled, there were definitely moments that stole my heart. There was definitely something special about this couple. It just didn't hit me as deep in the feels as I had hoped.
In all? It was a sweet second-chance romance with a few emotional twists along the way. There was lots to love here - a sort of nostalgic remembrance of simpler times, a lovely sisterhood that was fun and heartwarming, and a love story that stood the test of time. ~ Shelly, 3 Stars
What a beautiful chance love story. Piper and Kyle met at summer camp when they were teenagers. The two connected instantly and share an amazing summer in love. They had big plan to commute and see each other once school starts but in the end Kyle disappeared. Piper tried to connect but she never heard from him again. Piper gone on to become a VP for her father’s multibillion-dollar real estate development firm. Life suddenly throws Piper a loop when one day she showed up to work and Kyle is the new security guard at her building. He is all grown up and handsome as ever but to Piper’s disappointment he did not even remember her name. Can you ever forget your first love? Was Kyle new employment all a coincidence? The story was told between past and present. A rich girl and a guy from the wrong side of the track. I love the innocent crush and young love they got going on. It’s clear that they knew they are soulmate from the start. The more mature version of Piper and Kyle is super passionate and sexy. There is a little twist in the plot and hurdles to overcome but love conquers all. Over all, this was an enjoyable read. Angst check, swoony check, happy ending check. Beautifully written.
Piper has a privileged life, almost perfect. Until her mother decides to send her to a Summer Camp, the one she went to when she was young. Piper life will quickly changes when she meets Kyle, but it won’t last, will it?
Now, thirteen years later, Piper has the life she was meant to have and that summer with Kyle seems far away until she sees him again, and all the feeling that she carefully buried come back with full force.
Say you still love me is a different book, but it was a perfect read. We get not only a romance story but also a combination of a YA story and an Adult story. We get to see characters as teenagers and as adults and we get to know more about the story and how it developed.
I liked the characters, I liked Piper and I felt a connection with her and her personality. I really liked Kyle as well (he was dreamy!) and even the secondary characters, not Piper’s father, though.
The romance was just in enough quantity and I enjoyed the fact that it was not only about the love part but also about work and friendship. I had a huge knot in my throat when I read about Erik
I found the story to be sweet but also interesting, passionate but also funny and enjoyable. As I said, it was the perfect combination and it was a perfect read for a relaxing weekend with a glass of wine.
I’m becoming a huge fan of Kate Tucker and I sure won’t miss her upcoming books.
I need more Piper and Kyle in my life! I love how it was written, a chapter of present and a chapter of past. This book sucked me in from the very beginning and I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!
A sweet, nostalgic story of first love, summer camp, and second chances. The perfect romantic summer read.
Say You Still Love Me is exactly why I LOVE K.A. Tucker books. This story swept me up in the all encompassing love story between Kyle and Piper.
This is a story about first love and an all encompassing love. I loved how K.A. wrote this story. It is told in alternating time frames. We get a story in the past from when Piper and Kyle first met and then we also get them as adults in the here and now.
I think this story is perfect for all romance readers who love a second chance romance but also love to read about first love. Now even though I am talking about a first love, this book is an adult story and probably shouldn’t be read by someone under the age of 17. There are adults themes and situations.
Say You Still Love Me is K.A. Tucker’s latest standalone novel. It is told solely from Piper’s POV. I loved the flow and pace of this story. I thought the pace that Piper and Kyle’s relationship worked perfectly for them, both in the past and the present. I loved their story. I haven’t been this swept up into a story in a while.
As I said this story is about Kyle and Piper. They meet at summer camp, as counselors. Kyle has been a counselor for a couple of years and this is Piper’s first year. Her mom felt she should go to Camp Wawa for the experience. Kyle and Piper were from different sides of the tracks and have completely different upbringings. But the attraction was instant…almost like love at first sight. When something tragic happens at the end of the summer, Kyle and Piper are sent home and separated. Fast forward 13 years and color Piper surprised to see Kyle at her place of work. Can these two past lovers find their HEA?? What happens when Piper’s job and family try to interfere…can they make it work?? Read this sweet and sexy story to find out.
I loved all the secondary characters in this story. I almost wish we could see a story about a couple of them and see them get their HEA also.
I will say that I wish we would’ve gotten more out of the epilogue. I felt we were missing something. It felt kind of abrupt. I just wish when I was finished reading I would’ve gotten that feeling that their story was complete. I know this sounds weird and maybe it’s just me, but you’ll understand when you read it.
I would 100% recommend this book to all romance readers. If you are a fan of adult second chance romances, mature young adult first love stories, or just a story that will sweep you off your feet, this is the one to read. You won’t want to miss this book!! It’s a definite MUST READ!!!
KA Tucker is a contemporary romance genius. A staple. I can always count on her stories to entertain me, and this time was no exception.
I’ve stated this countless times, but I’m a sucker for second chance romances. And when I started this, I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it after all. I completely misunderstood who the love interest would be. I thought Piper’s ex was a complete douche and had no want or need for them to reunite.
And then the flashbacks started.
Which, again, is one of my FAVORITE things about romances. I love alternating past and present books. This is one and it’s done so well. As per usual, you get the idea of heartache, something terrible that occurred, and more. But the build up is so intense because it takes longer to reveal those things.
I absolutely loved Piper and Kyle, past and present. It was just a fun relationship that we got to watch develop and re-develop. But ultimately, there’s still a secret lurking. More than just the reason Kyle disappeared 13 years ago.
There was also the lasting friendships, the family contention, etc to deal with. And, a huge obstacle in Piper’s path in relation to work. For a contemporary, there was a lot going on. But, Tucker did a fabulous job keeping it all interesting and perfectly paced.
I think my only “complaint” is the ending. I mean, it’s safe to assume it’ll be a HEA, but I could’ve used a little glimpse further into the future. Just to see where everyone ended up. And I think to make sure the most important piece was wrapped up and secure. Other than that, it’s a beautiful, fun story from a favorite author. One all of her fans will enjoy!
As always, KA Tucker wrote a book that made me smile, laugh, feel all the feels, and really think. Somehow she manages to write light hearted contemporary romance that also delivers quite an impactful punch. In this novel, she tackles the stigma behind a powerful woman falling in love with someone she loves rather than a man that is there only to "look good." I really loved this take and that she isn't afraid to bring all aspects to the table.
The only thing I didn't love about this book, unfortunately, was Kyle. While I did like him, I didn't swoon or love him as much as I have some of her other male leads. This brought the book down some for me. Piper, though, is a kick ass strong woman that managed to be both powerful and kind. I really liked her. KA Tucker does it again. I highly recommend this book and all her others.
