Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I was a little hesitant going into this one, not because of the synopsis because lets be real it sounded amazing, but because I haven't really read too many adult books. With that being said I proceed with caution and ended up really enjoying myself!
One of my favourite tropes is hate to love so I was immediately drawn in by that and then everything else just added on to make my experience with this book really wonderful. The banter between the two main characters was awesome and I loved all the aspects of the vacation, it was just a really great read.
I did have a few problems with some of the relationships, kinda my own personal opinion, hence why I didn't give it full stars but other than that I highly recommend The Unhoneymooners if you're looking for a really great summery romance.
Christina Lauren have done it again! I absolutely loved The Unhoneymooners. This destination love story is hilarious and sexy, plus it has the enemies to lovers trope, which is one of my favourites. I read through it in a day because I couldn’t put it down! 🍍🌴
.
Olive and Ethan’s banter is so fun to read and Christina Lauren’s style is perfectly modern and relatable, they write like they’re one of your besties serving up the goss. 🍍🍍🍍🍍8/10
The Unhoneymooners is the perfect summer read. Most of the story takes place in Maui, which is a great setting for fun and romance. I love the enemies-to-lovers trope and Olive and Ethan's romance developed wonderfully. There was also a great balance between comedy, romance, and family drama. I thought the ending dragged a bit compared to the parts in Maui, but I liked how there was a fair bit of family involvement. I also weirdly enjoy text message conversations or any form of social media in books, so bonus points for that.
As for the characters, all romance authors should take notes from Christina and Lauren! There is absolutely no excuse for stories to have little to no diversity, so I applaud Christina and Lauren for putting in the effort to include minority main characters. Olive Torres is quite unique when it comes to romance female protagonists. She is a twin, she is Mexican, she works in STEM, and she is also incredibly unlucky. I loved Olive's character, and while I didn't agree with all of her decisions, she was incredibly relatable to me. Olive is honest and sticks to what she believes in. There were times when she was put in difficult situations, but I admire how she dealt with them. Ethan was a bit of a weak character for me as far as love interests go, but I kind of like how he was just sort of there and wasn't a hero or anything. It gave me more time to enjoy Olive and her family. I did enjoy Olive and Ethan's arguments and banter, so in this rare case, I think I enjoyed the love interest more for the comedy than the romance.

this is by far my favourite christina lauren book.
the entire premise of this novel was unique, enemies to lovers during an incredible trip to maui? i'm here for it. it was so much more than that though. i was a little nervous thinking the synopsis gave the whole storyline away, but oh boy was i wrong. there is so much depth to this novel and it's insane & amazing. i don't want to spoil anything because i highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good romantic comedy.
christina lauren made it possible to create minor characters with depth & personality, i don't know how they did it, but they portrayed minor characters with an visible personality & honestly that doesn't always happen especially with the amount of minor characters they incorporated.
what made it so amazing was the strong family element & the depth & progression of the character development. the support & closeness of the family element really was the link to make character development flow & i really admire how they brought that aspect to life in this novel.
i found myself laughing, frustrated, relieved. i went through a rollercoaster ride of emotions reading this & i applaud christina lauren for the way they wrote this book it had me hooked until the very end.
OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!!! From the first pages to the last sentence I was totally engaged with these characters., the dialogue had me LOL so many times, I highlighted passage after passage. I could not put this book down. Olive (or any version of that name) and Ethan ( or Edgar or Ezra or anything you want to call him) are beyond hysterically funny, the development of their relationship was so brilliant.
The supporting characters, her family, the bridal room scene there are just too many to mention. Everything about this book was beyond great!
I really loved this book. The story is a fairly classic enemies to lovers trope, but it was also extremely funny. I found myself laughing out loud at several parts (I think it will be great in audio once released). The start of the story is a bit ridiculous with the food poisoning, but I was still thoroughly entertained. Ethan and Olive are enemies, and end up on each of their respective siblings’ honeymoon in Hawaii, where sparks start flying and the awkward encounters are many. It’s got a bit of steam, some heart, and some sweetness too. I would definitely recommend this latest book by Christina Lauren! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC through Netgalley. #netgalley
I feel in love with this book as soon as I saw the beautiful cover. THEN I read the synopsis and was totally sold. Enemies-to-lovers? Fake marriage? Romantic getaway? Christina Lauren were taking all of my favourite tropes and putting them in one novel! And as always, the duo of Christina Lauren know how to bring me to my knees in feels. From the very beginning I was completely invested in Olive's story. I laughed with her and cringed at her more unfortunate moments. Her character was undeniably human and so so relatable.
Honestly, the only thing that I felt was lacking about The Honeymooners, is that I missed the amount of steamy scenes I come to expect from a Christina Lauren novel. This one felt questionably "tame" compared to most of its predecessors, with most of the intimate scenes being "fade-to-black"
That being said, I was so incredibly charmed by this novel that I devoured it in one sitting. I would highly recommend it.
I can't remember the last time I related so much to a main character. All of Oliver's quirks and insecurities are so me! I adored the romance and thought it was very swoon worthy. Some of it was a little far fetched but that totally bother me when it comes to contemporary romance. I'm here for a little fun and that is what I got.

I love a good romance novel and while enemies to lovers was never my favourite troupe The Unhoneymooners and The Hating Game is making me second guess that!
This book was laugh out loud funny. At one point I was laughing so hard I was crying. I’m always impressed when a book can make me laugh that hard but yet can be hot too! The sexual tension between Olive and Ethan was electric. I loved watching these two bicker and argue their way to love!
Olive was really interesting character to me because I felt her relatable. She really does believe she is unlucky and her snark is amazing! I love a good sassy heroine. I really liked her development throughout the book.
This is my second Christina Lauren but it definitely won’t be my last. This book was fun, a good escape of reality, light and steamy. Everything I want in a romance
The Unhoneymooners is a hilarious enemies to lovers romance. Olive considers herself unlucky, but when her sister's wedding ends in food poisoning, Olive and Ethan, her nemesis, are the only two who didn't get sick are forced to take the honeymoon trip together and pretend they are newlyweds. After doing the coupley things that are expected of them they find their feelings have changed and they don't really hate each other.
This is another amazing book by Christina Lauren. I can't wait for what they have in-store for us next!
4.5/ 5 stars
The Unhoneymooners is a standalone romantic comedy. This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2019.
I hate spoilers so I often do not read the book blurbs in advance. So I had absolutely no idea what this book was going to be about. I will say this. I think that it is important going into this book to know that it is mostly a light, fun, funny, silly comedy. I usually prefer my romances to be more emotional. I definitely think that the last third had a different tone. It was more serious and deeper. And while I enjoyed the silly parts in the beginning I definitely preferred the more serious parts.
The narrator of this book is 32 year old Mexican American Olive Torres (1st person POV). The book starts with her identical twin sister Ami getting married. Ami enters giveaways often and is very lucky. Olive is much less lucky.
I sort of loved this premise. And it was really fun to think of someone being able to get a wedding or a vacation for almost nothing. Plus the contrast with Olive and how so many things could go wrong ... well it was an interesting part of this book.
The book started out with a catchy beginning that was both cute and funny. From there the book does get sillier and more ridiculous. There is a lot of crazy banter. And Olive gets into one awkward situation after another.
To me the first half of the book was more for readers who like fun, funny comedy. There was nothing too serious. I prefer more thought-provoking books that make me feel. So while I was amused by the first half. It was comedy and mishap overload.
The male lead in this book is Ethan (34). It took me a bit of time to warm up to him. But I liked his witty banter with Olive. And I loved the names that he made up for her (that was so funny).
Did I love the romance in this story? Yes and no. It definitely took me a while to like them together. But once everything was explained I became more invested in their story.
The last part of this book was set in Minnesota and I was actually very happy about that. The tone was definitely different and the story was more serious. I loved that we got to see more of Olive's family. And I was very interested in all of the developments especially re: Dane (Olive's brother-in-law).
Overall, this was mostly a cute silly romantic comedy. However the last part definitely kicked things up a notch and gave me the emotional depth that I was looking for.

Cute, fun romance! This was a weekend read for me, I got into it right away and couldn't put it down. The whole "I hate him/but not really" storyline is a bit overplayed, but I still enjoyed this book. It was a nice escape, and would make a good beach read. If you're looking for a light, fun, fast romance book, give this one a try!
After a buffet related digestive disaster takes down all but two guests at a wedding, Ethan and Olive step in to take the couple’s free honeymoon. Long-standing enemies, they bicker and poke at each other nonstop until suddenly they find themselves enjoying each other’s company much more than either every expected.
I loved this book! I described it to all of my friends as “the perfect rom-com”. I’ve been a fan of Christina Lauren novels for years and this just might be the best one yet. The perfect balance of romance and humour, Harry Potter references, and the beautiful Hawaiian setting made it hard to put down. I enjoyed it from start to finish.
I was so excited to get my hands on a new Christina Lauren. The first 65% of this book was amazing. I loved it. The story was great until it wasn't
Bith main characters Olive and Ethan were totally lovable!!! They were great together whether it be fighting or loving or bickering they just worked, again until they didn't.
Once Olive and Ethan return from their trip the story just goes south. I lost interest in them together or even apart.
The whole Dane side story just seemed to come from.left field znd the story raps up in 4%.
I'm disappointed that this one fell short for me. Like really short.
I am a huge Christina Lauren fan have all thier stories and will continue to read them. The old saying is do true "You can't love them all"
Olive has had a lot of bad luck in her life, including the recent loss of her job. Her twin sister Ami, on the other hand, has always been extremely lucky. In fact, Ami has won enough contests to almost completely pay for her wedding and honeymoon. When Ami and her new husband contract a severe case of food poisoning at their wedding reception making them unable to travel, Olive is encouraged to take the honeymoon trip to Maui along with the groom’s brother Ethan, who just happens to be her nemesis. On top of that, Olive hates being untruthful. According to the honeymoon contest rules, the trip is non-transferable and so she must assume Ami’s identity.
I loved this book!! I found myself LOL frequently and I loved the awkwardness of a new relationship under very intimate conditions. I appreciated the family dynamics in the story and the challenges of not wanting to see the truth under difficult circumstances.
I highly recommend this book and rate it 4.5/5 stars.
Thank you to the Netgalley , Simon & Schuster Canada and Gallery Books for permitting me access to an advance reader's copy (ARC) of The Unhoneymooners. This generosity did not impact my honesty when rating/reviewing.
I devoured this book! There were so many laugh out loud moments & oh, the banter between Olive & Ethan was adorable. I especially loved how Ethan often called Olive by any name other than her own hah
I am loving that more & more we’re seeing smart, business savvy women in romance books who are career driven & in this book I liked that there was also some second guessing & struggling with Olive’s career choices that seemed realistic & very much a reflection of our generation. Also, it was nice that the characters were older/more mature.
I LOVED Olive’s family dynamic & that they all played a huge role in her life. I could relate way too well to the huge family gatherings, the endless cooking, & the familial gossip 😂
Overall, I loved this one & would say it’s on the top 5 of CLo books, my only qualm is that it was more fade-to-black with the steamy stuff & considering the build up of Olive & Ethan’s bantery exchanges & shenanigans I was hoping for a little more follow through, if ya know what I mean 😉 I’m looking forward to getting my copy in the mail.
I am generally hit or miss with Christina Lauren books but this was a solid 5 stars for me. I loved the chemistry between the main characters and what set it apart from other romantic comedy books was that the banter was so intelligent between the two characters, I read every word or went back to reread paragraphs because the writing was so entertaining. I immensely enjoyed the protagonist. A lot of authors will write “clumsy” main characters that you’re supposed to find endearing but actually they turn out to be nauseating, but this was not the case with Olive. She was relatable and felt like your friend. I also thoroughly enjoyed the sibling dynamic, it added another layer to the story telling. Also, secondary characters were introduced which have the potential for making a series. I would enjoy seeing how all the characters develop as long as it’s not a throwaway for the sake of creating a series.
I'm sure I had a poo-eating grin on my face for 80% of this. Like most chick lit, it does lose its fire about 3/4 through but still a fun read. Cute characters and some laugh out loud moments that make you susceptible to funny looks if reading in public...beware.
Fantastic and witty, and takes place mostly in Hawaii. What's not to love about this book? I loved the banter between Olivia (Olive, Oliver, Olivier,) and Ethan (Eric, Enrique, Ersatz) throughout this book.
If you have ever seen the movie Fried Green Tomatoes, you might actually laugh-out-loud at the reference used in this story.
I cannot wait for this writing duo's next book if it's anything as good as this one!
3.5*
I don't know why The Unhoneymooners didn't wow me as much as a lot of CoLo's books. I still thoroughly enjoyed it. But maybe it's because Hazel and Josh are like so amazing that now I'm going to compare are their future books to that one. And it's a little unfair, but also I know what they're capable of.
That being said, Olive is a great character. She's a little snarky and pessimistic. Which is me. But also, soft and loving. And like yea, when someone looks like they're judging you, I'm going to be an Olive and go off their judgments too.
Ethan, I didn't get. There's nothing wrong with him. I did enjoy their banter and "fighting". But also what was his personality? He didn't have one beyond being someone for Olive to hate and then eventually he turned soft and someone for her to like. The great part was that talking wasn't an issue for them. Being honest and open is their relationship.
The first half of the book was alright for me. The honeymoon and all the mishaps and such was fun enough. But I enjoyed the second half and when they got home a lot more. Olive really came into her own then. Realizing she can be a little judgy but also to not just back down from her feelings.
Family for Olive is a big aspect of her life. Coming from a big Mexican-American family really shows in Olive's life and personality. Especially being a twin.
I love CoLo's books. They have always been an auto-boy/auto-read from the time of BB. And The Unhoneymoons is really no exception. It's amazing to see how far their writing, characters, and stories have progressed. There is zero cheese in their current books. Their characters have all become super relatable and normal everyday people. I'm pretty sure The Unhoneymooners will be another hit for CoLo readers.
