What an amazing read, really enjoyed reading this book.
i love books that flip between timelines, looking at the past and the present. building up an image of where the characters are today and why. drip feeding us clues all the way. keeping me guessing all the way, giving us false leads to keep us guessing.
i did not see the outcome which was great as i'm always playing detective while reading this type of story and i don't like it when its too obvious and you still have half a book to go!
this book had me gripped from the start, will be lookiong at more from this author.
thank you to Netgalley and the Author for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review
Unusual story with lots of twists, turns and secrets. How one action can lead to others and the trouble it cause in the future, how hidden secrets can be very different from the truth.
I was really looking forward to this new novel by Heidi perks as I thoroughly enjoyed now you see her and was expecting this to be just as good!
Come back for me concentrated on the lives of three siblings bonnie, Danny and Stella who lived on a remote island of the Dorset coast. All three children are very different and appear to have experienced very different memories of their island life and childhood!
When many years later a dead body is discovered just outside there old family homes garden they are thrust into the limelight of a police investigation, the close knit community on the island are hostile towards Stella in her quest to find the truth. Although an enjoyable read it was very slow to get started and had several themes running together which could be confusing at times!
Thank you net galley for this advanced copy to read
I read the book and will try to give an honest opinion of the book.
A family living on a remote island left in a rush to get away.
No one knew why they left so quickly but the children did not want to leave and did not understand why.
Many years later a body was found near there former home, and led to mysteries surrounding the body.
The story was ok, but overlong and got a. Bit silly in parts.
When a body is found on land bordering the garden of Stella's childhood home, she feels compelled to return to the island where she lived until the family suddenly left when she was only ten years old. The book moves between the two time periods easily, and each character is fully developed. At time a I found the pace a little slow, I think the book might have been better if it was about 25% shorter. It also stretched credibility that Stella didnt think anyone had gone missing all those years ago. This book is a good page turner, and would make a good holiday read.
This book had an interesting premise: a body discovered on a small island with around 100 inhabitants. The murderer and the secrets that led to the death will all be found within the small community of Evergreen, off the Dorset coast. However, it's an insular community and it will be challenging to uncover the truth.
The story switches between the present day investigations and flashbacks to 1993 when Stella Harvey's family left the island suddenly. Stella, now an adult, is forced to confront some family secrets and the false impression she has of an idyllic childhood on Evergreen when the body is discovered on the boundary of her childhood home. Along with a local journalist, she starts to uncover the events of the past that have led her back to the island 25 years later.
I did read this book quickly, keen to find out what happened, and it kept my interest throughout. However, I'll admit to being slightly underwhelmed at the ending; I don't want to give spoilers, but it wasn't as interesting as I'd hoped and there were a few aspects I found quite unbelievable.
I would recommend this book to those who like this type of investigation where the secrets of the past surface. It is well written and engaging and will keep you reading, even if the denouement may not be totally satisfying.
This is another great novel from Heidi Perks. It's got all the hallmarks of a classic whodunnit, with a cast of characters, multiple suspects and the police trying to get to the conclusion. But as with Heidi Perks' previous novels, what you expect to happen really doesn't!
The story starts with a family escaping (or running away?) from their island home during a storm. It is here that the questions start, and they never stop. The timeline shifts to the present day, when a body is discovered in the garden of the family home of Stella, who was a daughter on that boat. Who is the body? How long have they been there? What's the connection?
The story unfolds from there, at a pace at times but frustratingly slow at others. You'll definitely find yourself shouting at the characters!
Heidi Perk's storytelling is as high a standard as her other novels, and what really sets her apart is that the stories are thought provoking, The characters and situations will stay with you long after you have finished the last page. In particular with this book, I've thought a lot about what it would be like living in a small island community, particularly in the family circumstances that Stella finds herself in,
This is another must read and you won't want to put it down!
What caused your family to fall apart. Stella and her family lived on Evergreen Island so when they leave in a hurry she can't understand why. After all these years a body has been found at the end of their old house on Evergreen she wonders why it can be? So she decides to go and find out who it can be but her sister Bonnie doesn't want her to go back. But everything has changed on the island no one is that happy to see her again and she has no idea why but that changes when the Police confirm who the victim is. It is someone that the family knew and she worries that her family could have had something to do with it. She knows that her brother Danny would follow the girls around and that he seemed very interested in Bonnie's new friend Iona but she doesn't believe that he knows anything about her murder. But no one knows where Danny is anyways as he just took his stuff and left one day. So when he hands himself over to the Police she doesn't believe that he killed Iona no matter what he says and she is going back to Evergreen to find out the truth. But can she really handle the truth and what it can do to their family?
The island has many secrets and they aren't happy that Stella is back again and they have to stop her from finding out what really happened. Will Stella be able to share what she has found out with her family knowing that she could lose the ones that she has left?
A good read full of twists and turns. What family doesn't has secrets? I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netgalley & the publishing house in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you to Netgalley and Heidi Perks for the privilage of reading Come Home to Me in advance of its release.
When a body is discovered on the periphery of her childhood home Stella is drawn back to the island she fled under the cloak of darkness as a child. A plot of intrigue and mystery ensues.
Come Back For Me by Heidi Perks a five-star read that you will want to go back for. This was such a compelling read, the family dynamics especially with Bonnie as well as Danny will pull you in and leave you with burning questions. Stella as a character will pull you to places that will surprise you. This novel does have a slow burning start, but once you get used to the setting and the alternating timelines you won’t put it down, so be warned don’t plan to put it down. You will be there with Stella when she asks the hard questions and with her when she secrets are revealed. This is a must have for your holiday reading pile.
Come Back For Me is a thrilling book. Set in two different periods of time it's full of twists and turns.
Thanks to NetGalley for my copy.
Stella Harvey is watching the news. Suddenly, her attention is taken by an image of her childhood home and the fact that a body has been found close to it. Stella and her family lived on Evergreen, an island, off the coast of Dorset only reached by her fathers ferry boat.
Stella still remembers their leaving the island in a hurry and in a thunderstorm and she has never returned.
She is drawn back to the island she never wanted to leave and finds several people she remembers still living there.
But whose is the body and will she know them? And what other secrets will be revealed and will she want to know them?
I couldn't put it down!!
A good story. An endearing story. Family, you think that you know them inside out, and are then shocked when you learn they've been keeping secrets from you - even though you have secrets from them. Could it be that learning their secrets, will clarify why you had to leave your haven?
A good read, Twisted and turned every time I thought I'd worked out who had done it.
Gripping, intriguing and a must read. I was hooked and could not put this book down, plenty of twists and turns to keep your imaginative juices flowing. Recommended
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was gripped from the beginning. Stella was young when her family suddenly left the small Island of Evergreen off the Dorset coast. Years later when a body was found just outside the garden of her former home Stella felt she had to know about the mystery of why her family went there and also why they left so suddenly. I loved how the story unfolded telling the story in two timelines. A quite unexpected ending with plenty twists and turns along the way. Great read.
This is the second book I have read by this author (I loved the first!) and it did not disappoint.
Some years ago, Stella and her family have to leave the small island they live one night in the middle of a storm. In the present day Stella and her sister are estranged from their brother.
Stella is at home watching the news when one of the stories catches her attention. A body has been found on the island just outside the perimeter of her old house. What does this mean? Is it someone she knows? Against her sister’s advice,Stella is drawn in and returns to the island to get some answers. Not everyone is pleased to see her however.
From thereon in the story develops through the present day and the events leading up to the night the family fled the island. This story grips you from the beginning and keeps up the pace throughout.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced read copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
I loved this dark, clever, twisty plot. And an island setting made it all the more compelling and claustrophobic. My first from this author and now I’m seeking out her others.
A spell binding story, where it lead you in a different direction than you thought. I just couldn’t put it down and read it in only two sessions.
This is a page turner of a book, I couldn’t put it down and read it in 2 days. The book had me gripped from the beginning to the end. Stella, brought up on a small island until she was 11 years of age when one night, without explanation the family leave the island and Stella leaves her best friend behind.
The story travels between the present and the past as Stella looks for answers after she hears on the news, some 25 years after leaving the island, that a bday has been found near her old home. The plot deepens with many twists and turns as Stella looks for answers and begins to delve into her family history on the island. Family secrets and intrigue make for a riveting read that is gripping from the start.
A very descriptive novel with believable characters. Lots of twists and turns in the plot. Tends to flick from present to past and can be a bit confusing. A clever thriller and a good read. My thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
