Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.
This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.

Abby is pregnant. But how could that be, when she is single currently without no physicalities going on in her life? Yes, but there is that Silvester night alcohol-fuelled party, right? So there are some pressing questions waiting for her - what to do with the baby? Who might the father be? Was the sex voluntary (aka in the drunken stupor, no memories afterwards) or was it unvoluntary, meaning she was raped?
And there are the strange messages also...
The premise is interesting, but the execution is quite one-dimensional and even a bit emotionally detached. Maybe this strange coldness was why I was not able to connect with the main character Abby - but actually, she is not very much connected to herself, really. More mature girl would probably act more sensibly when realizing she is pregnant after an encounter she has no memory of. Do not get me wrong, I applaud her decision towards the baby (this is the saving grace and the reason for the 3 stars). But, for example - how about speaking to the lawyer about what are your possibilities? Having some medical checkups re possible veneral diseases? And she is very distanced from herself emotionally. Girl, you are pregnant, this is a huge change to your body, mind and soul! Do you do not care an ounce about yourself?
The sleuthing part is also done quite weakly. Abby and her gay friend Danny are contacting the possible fathers by chance, asking and taking the answers on either face value, or based on the emotions running at the moment. As if you are looking for a decent guy who will at once realize his newfound fatherly responsibilities just because!
And the child's father's identity - well, this is some lazy writing.
This is a pity, because the topic is very relevant and could be played with much more layers.
Abby discovers she is pregnant and is shocked since she hasn't been intimate with anyone since her relationship broke up a year ago. First, she believes the tests are wrong then she remembers a party on New Year's Eve but she can't remember many details from that night. Could Abby have been so inebriated that she had blacked out or could someone drugged her drink that night. Abby doesn't want a child and especially not by a person that would take advantage of her. Soon after, she begins receiving flowers and baby gifts, always hand delivered and never signed and also she feels someone following her and she begins to get frightened and a little paranoid thinking every man might be her stalker and "rapist".
How will Abby find her way out of this mess? What will become of the innocent baby that Abby never wanted in the first place. The story will reach a shocking climax and you will have to read the book if you want to know what happens in Abby's harrowing journey for answers.
I couldn't read this book fast enough. Abby was a free spirit yet a good girl who believed in love but she never expected to find herself in this predicament and struggled to make the right decisions about the complicated situation she is in. I enjoyed the book for the most part although the story took some crazy and unrealistic twists that I couldn't foresee and then an ugly shocking turn happened towards the ending that I thought wasn't necessary and it changed the whole tone of the story. Needless to say I had mixed feelings about this book. It was a real page turner for me and the tone was breezy and light and I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next but then towards the ending, the story took a dark and depressing turn that was unexpected and (imo) unnecessary. I would definitely recommend this book to other readers and I would like to read more books by Karen Cole in the future.
I want to thank the publisher "Quercus Books" and Netgalley for granting the opportunity to read this book and ant thoughts and opinions expressed are unbiased and mine alone!
I have given this story a rating of 3 Complicated ⭐⭐⭐ Stars!!
Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.
After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.
I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.
Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.
Amazing, couldn't put it down. Totally gripping! Definitely one of the best books I've read in ages.
This was an interesting read. Abby is pregnant, but has no recollection of actually having relations to have the baby..... She has to put her memories together piece by piece to find out what happened to her. There is a twist in the whole story that made for an entertaining read! Recommended.

How scary to feel unwell and then find out that you’re pregnant. When you haven’t had sex for a year. Well clearly you have. Sooooo.....you work out when. NYE. Your best friend’s party. Assault. A great read.
4/5 on Amazon and goodreads
Holly Mollie! I adored this book way more than I thought I would! It gets a very possible scenario in real life -an unexpected pregnancy- and turns into something shocking, page-turning, enjoyable, and utterly thought-provoking. The story was unputdownable and I found myself drinking coffee at midnight in order to be awake enough and finish the book, which I did in less than 24 hours.
Despite the heavy subject matter, the book was quite gripping and unforgettable! Four out of five stars only for the fact that I felt like the plot dragged on a bit somewhere in the middle. The main protagonist was really brave, wise, and relatable. I'm 100% looking forward to what Karen Cole has got in her hands for the future!
No woman wants a surprise pregnancy. What if it is not only a surprise, but also highly improbable as far as your recent sex life is concerned. How would you handle the possibility of not only being a single mother, but also not knowing whether or not a sexual crime has been committed against you. Abby is thrown into this hell after going to the doctor to make sure she wasn't sick.
What follows is Abby's investigation into the night she can't seem to remember. As the weeks and months pass by Abby is driving herself crazy trying to figure out who the father of her child is. Especially since she has been receiving creepy gifts and notes from the supposed father. A man that she fully believes raped and that's how she has become pregnant.
A twisting and turning story that will have you pondering who done it until the very end.
*thank you to Netgalley, Karen Cole and Quercus Books for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*
2 stars.
What started out as a pretty interesting story, slowly went downhill. I was intrigued at the beginning as to how this was all going to turn out. Abby is at her Doctors appointment where she finds it that she is pregnant. Dumbfounded as to how the happened as she hasn't been in a relationship for over a year, she works out that she had been raped at the New Year's Eve party her friend Dany had organised. She was really quite drunk so she has no memory of that night. With a list of suspects and trying to work out who got her pregnant.
It really bothered me that some characters did not class this case as rape. Cleary she was in no position to give consent. To me, that's rape. Drugged or drunk makes no difference. It wasn't consented.
Unfortunately it lacked suspense and by the time it was revealed who had gotten Abby pregnant, it wasn't a shock. It wasn't who I had my suspicions about but when I did read who it was, it kinda made sense because sometthing I had noticed at the beginning of the story didn't add up so this answered that little nugget of confusion I had. I was kinda over it by that stage though and uninterested. The story spent a lot of time going nowhere in particular. It was basically going from suspect to suspect, the same thing over again.
I would give this author another try though. It wasn't a complete write off and I hope I enjoy her future books more than this one. There was potential.
Woah dude, what a story! The .mystery kept me turning pages just wanting to find out more. I highly enjoyed this book.
This was an excellent book.. a real page turner and hard to put down. The story was interesting and the characters were great. A real good twist at the end that you don’t see coming. The first book that I have read by this author, I’ll be looking out for more books by this author in the future. A very enjoyable read
Thank you netgalley for the opportunity to read this
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was pretty horrified reading this novel and the end was just as disturbing but the pace was suspenseful and the plot interesting enough to keep you flipping pages. Despite the heavy subject matter it was well written and intriguing.
I thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book. This author was new to me and I was not let down. It was a great story and very well written. The characters were easy to relate to and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I highly recommend this to everyone!!
Abby has been feeling under the weather for a while and decides she really must go to the doctor. That visit changed her life forever, according to the doctor Abby is two month pregnant, but Abby hasn’t had sex since she split with her ex, how is it possible? Struggling to remember a very drunken New Year’s Eve and as Abby starts to piece together, hour by hour ,what took place, she begins to receive strange texts and gifts. Immaculate conception, drugged and raped or drunken fumblings forgotten in the morning?
Deliver Me is Karen Cole’s debut novel and it is thrilling, fast paced and beautifully written, an incredible read. Looking forward to reading Deceive Me the next novel by this excellent writer.
thrilling book. Very suspenseful. Loved it!!! has a great story line. Keeps moving right along. this author is new to me. I hope to read many more books by this author
This is by far the best whodunnit thriller I have read all year. Karen Cole weaves a brilliant tale and you will never see the ending coming. I was so engrossed with this story, I stayed up until I had finished it at 1:00 am. In the story, a teacher called Abby is told she is two months pregnant by her doctor. Abby has no idea how this is possible as she hasn’t had sex in a very long time. How could this be ? Was it an immaculate conception or something more sinister.? I am definitely going to be reading this authors next novel straight away!
Thankyou to NetGalley, Quercus Books and the author, Karen Cole, for the opportunity to read a digital copy of Deliver Me in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion.
What a compelling read for fans of the genre.
I thought this book provided a good, solid read. It was well written with well developed characters and a rollercoaster plot. I was hooked from the start.
Well worth a read.
