Murder, suspense makes this book, Triple Trouble an engrossing read.
The story is about a forensic anthropologist who is practical and cynical. She is content focusing only on her career and the cold cases she solves with her identical triplet sisters. Even if she had time for a romantic relationship, she doesn't believe in 'true love'. Not with her track record.
Of course that all is disrupted and the end results is a charming story you will enjoy as much as I did.
“Triple Trouble” was a novel I really wanted to like, as it started with a good idea. Unfortunately the novel itself is mediocre. It lacks credibility, and the ending is so rushed that many readers will feel cheated. In addition, the writing is clumsy in places. The overall impression is of a novel that needed several more drafts.
Cassie Farris is the youngest of triplets. A forensic anthropologist, much of Carrie’s work seems related to law enforcement. Both her sisters also work in law enforcement, and in their spare time the triplets solve cold cases. In earlier novels, the two older sisters found true love, but Carrie is cynical about the likelihood of that happening for her. Naturally, this view is challenged in short order when Rocco Donati begins working at her lab.
Meanwhile, the sisters have agreed to re-investigate the unsolved murders of Gabe Montcoer’s parents and baby sister. Gabe is now engaged to middle triplet Lizzie, and is still haunted by the decades old murders.
The investigation, frankly, lacks a shred of credibility. For example, the sisters remove the evidence box from police custody, and have it in a private home, and then a private lab (with, apparently, no security), with all of them rummaging around in it. They talk at great length about the lack of a “Chain of Custody” sheet and how that might impact on a court case, but seem completely unphased by their own tainting of evidence. I have serious doubts about whether that would ever be allowed to happen.
We are shown very little actual investigating. Mostly – particularly towards the end – we’re just told “We’ve discovered this!” It’s unsatisfying, and doesn’t feel at all realistic. There are many good, grounded crime novels out there, and on this level the novel simply doesn’t measure up.
Trying to read the novel instead as a light romance didn’t work for me either. The relationship between the triplets is not well drawn – I didn’t feel an emotional connection. The connection between Rocco and Carrie was stronger, but towards the end of the novel things got so rushed that again, I didn’t find it believable. Again, too, several incidents meant to create drama instead undermined credibility. For example, Rocco’s ex-wife comes to visit. But Rocco is living under a pseudonym, and has told only one or two people where he is. Why on earth would he tell his troublesome ex-wife what city he’s in, let alone where he’s living?
Overall, then, I was disappointed in “Triple Trouble”. It’s not well written, well plotted, or well paced. All it really has going for it is a good idea that’s not well executed.
Public displays of affection was not Carrie’s thing especially when they were going on in her apartment and she wasn’t involved. But it was her identical triplet sisters Lizzie and Nina had found their One. carrie thought her life had hit an all time low. Nina the oldest sister said she thought they were grossing Carrie out and she agreed. But she admitted to being silly and didn’t admit to a little stab of jealousy in her heart. Carrie had given up on finding the One. Rake had ruined that for her, three years wasted on a two-timing dirt bag for what to be left heartbroken and also low self esteem. Not to mention the smooth talking Lorenzo who had took her virginity then dumped her as she was them damaged goods. Both times she had given her heart to a man, both times they ripped a piece of ehr heart and took it when they left. She’d never open her heart again and would never give another man the power to hurt her. That’s one one nighters worked so well for Carrie. Although thise hadn’t worked for her in the last four months. Her job in forensics and the cold cases she and her sisters did on the side had taken over her life. She had to rectify that soon. Gabe, Andrei and the triplets were all orphans and had lost their parents at various ages and circumstances. The triplets parents had been supposedly murdered by her mother’s best friend when they were twenty. Gabriel was haunted by the unsolved murder of his parents and his infant sister. That’s why he had approached the sisters in the first place and first met Lizzie. Gabe had been investigated when he first started dating Lizzie and it was clear he had secrets and that had been four months ago. Alot had happened since Lizzie and gabe got engaged. Nina and Andrei had reunited. Nina and Andrei were championship cross country shooters bio athletes. They had been ex lovers from eight years ago and they had reconciled at the Games after discovering they had both been there on the same undercover assignment. The triplets best was about seventy five percent success rate in solving cold cases and they promised Gabe they’d give it their best. Gabe had the only newspaper article - and variations of the same- that said the car was found by the side of the road by a jogger. Booth parents had a bullet wound to the head… baby was found dead in her capsule… suggested cause of death to the baby was smothering. It was always different when the triplets worked on cases involving children. The parents had left behind three children - gabriel -14, Camille- 11, and jean-Paul who had been seven. Nina was a Scenes Officer Trainer. Nina now had the case file of gabe’s parents murder. It had come in that day. Gabe hadn’t been allowed to see it as the case being unsolved it had probably been classified to non-police sources. Nina handed carrie all the forensic information that is available at the time. She handed Lizzie papers and said “ these should be enough reports and statements to start a criminal profile. They were files with the police reports, witness statements and the formal analysis of evidence. Hopefully anything they were lacking could be found soon enough or can be requested. She had also put in a request for the evidence box- which was the actual physical evidence- and was stored in ah restricted area and she should hear back in a coupe of days. Rocco’s new life had almost begun. He had told his father about the six month maternity leave contract he would fulfill until the woman came back as a reconstruction artist. He had relocated to Caines. His father hadn’t reacted well at all. But Rocco had his own money and connections. Six months would be enough time to sort out his head and figure out what he wanted from life without the pressure of his family’s expectations,.Or the burden of his family’s name and associated reputation and wealth. He’d been pleased when his father had insisted on his anonymity via a false last name. He might even think about dating again. The previous women he had dated before had been attracted to his name, his ability to provide things for them , or his looks. All superficial, all fake, all meaningless. Probably why he was currently going through a divorce from Samantha. Something had changed during his separation , he wanted more. Rocco wanted his focus on his new life. His new dream. Ones that didn’t involve unrelenting stress, constant travel or exes. Carrie needed to be outside and interact with nature. She worked better that way. The lab work was her least favorite aspect of being involved with forensics. Being cooped up in a over-sterilized building was bearable only because of the bones. She looked at the plastic sleeve Nina had given her . there was a lot of evidence and carrie wondered why this was still a cold case. Intuition told her something wasn’t right. Carrie would also be working with Rocco. Rocco got the penthouse in the building carrie lived in but neither knew that. Part of carrie’s job was to determine if a crime had been committed- murder in particular- or if the person died of natural causes. Carrie was physically attracted to rocco and he to her. Than she told him at ,lunch she was one of the Farris triplets- they were identical. Rocco realized he wanted to date Carrie. Someone had broken in the lab destroyed the computers and taken the evidence box. But rocco said the information was on the cloud and could still use it.
I loved d this book a lot. It was an enjoyable easy read with just enough angst, danger and drama. I loved rocco and carrie and how they interacted together. I loved the relationship between Carrie and her sisters. I loved that roc was there for Carrie anyway he could be even if he lied about his last name - he had to- and not telling her he was in the middle of a divorce - again he couldn’t tell her without costly repercussions. I loved the pace and plot. I loved the danger and suspense in this book. I was so glad when Simon Scanlon was arrested as well as Harlon. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend it.
The Farris triplets are known for many things. Solving cold cases that are unsolvable. They are identical triplets and want their happily ever afters. Nina and Lizzie have theirs. Now it's Carrie's time. Rocco is someone who comes to the lab to fill in for someone on maternity leave. She just can't date him as she has been hurt too many times. Right night, the triplets are also, working on an unsolved murder case for Gabe, who is Lizzie's fiancee. There's a deep mystery and no one has been able to help. When the box of evidence is found and stolen from Carrie's office, they thought everything was gone, but it has been loaded into a new computer system. What no one knows is that Rocco is the son and part owner of a huge business and very rich. Rocco has a secret that he can't reveal to Carrie or anyone else. Despite the love they feel for each other, it could be a deal breaker for Carrie. As they work on Gabe's case, every one is in danger. Will the triplets get out unscathed? What about Carrie and Rocco? I loved this 3rd and last book of the Farris girls. I will miss them I received this book from Net Galley and Escape Publishing for a honest review.
Triple Trouble is book 3 in the series featuring the Farris sisters, triplets who solve cold cases in their free time. I have not read the previously books but this read ok as a stand alone book. It was a quick read at under 200 pages but for me it was way too heavy on the romance and relationships. It was billed as a Mystery, Thriller and Romance but I felt that the mystery part was way over shadowed by the romance aspect. I don't mind a bit of it in the books that I read but this was just too much for me. I think that more could have been elaborated on the cold case side . Readers of romances will love this book though.
Thanks to Escape Publishing and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased.
This is the first book I've read in this series but I still didn't have a problem following the story line. Good mystery and interesting characters, a very easy read. Now I have to go back and read the first two books! I received an e-book from NetGalley in return for an unbiased review.
The Triple trouble by A. K. Leigh is the third book of the Farris Sister's trilogy, even though the other two books provide the context, this can be read and enjoyed as a standalone as well.
After both her sisters are in a loving relationship, Carrie inadvertently finds herself kind of alone but she still cant open herself for possibility of her happy ever after. Being practical and Cynical, she involves herself further in the mystery of a long unsolved cold case instead.
Rocco Donati needs a respite from his lineage, from his marriage and his life and Cairns is the perfect place to do that. When he gets a position at the local forensic lab, he doesnt take long to settle in.with a passionate and funny colleague.
While solving an ungoing murder case with sentimental and emotional ties, will they finally get their forever?
Interesting plot with quirky characters. An enjoyable novel with breezy chapters.
This was such a great book. While it is part of a series, you don’t have to read the others to understand what was going on. Carrie and Roc were such great characters. I felt that the author did a great job with the plot and character development.
Thank you Netgalley and publishers for allowing me to read this.
