DNF. Too much explaining but not the right things. Why would the humans of one small town need protection from vampires who basically not longer exist? The story was just too disjointed.
While the concept is interesting, and the storyline has promise, the dialog needs work and the characters need some rethinking.
Aurora is a very entitled, self important main character which makes it very difficult to like her, and Gabriel is extremely childish and petulant which also makes him a very difficult MC to like. Between the two, the storyline falters because it becomes to difficult to get past their personalities to get to the meat of the story.
I will read the next book in the series to see if there is improvement since the storyline definitely has promise.
