What a great book. it was heartwarming and made you laugh. A story of a group of friends who baked cookies for there Amish church. When one of there daughters kept losing her job because she loved to organize things they had a plan to find her a new job. Myrna got a job helping a widower with four children. it is a beautiful story of lose and love. Thanks netGalley and also thanks to the publisher for giving me the chance to read and give my honest opinion.
I love Sarah price writing I am a fan of her's! love the settings and the cover loved all the characters!
I always get held captive in her stories.
It was fun to read an Amish novel in which the main character is not the typical Amish woman. Myrna has very strong opinions about everything and is not afraid to voice them. She's been let go from every job she's had because of her opinions so the "Cookie Club" has decided that maybe Myrna needs to work in an Amish home helping with children. Since Zeke is a widower with for children, he is happy to have Myrna. There's a mystery surrounding Zeke which is slowly revealed making readers wonder if all the rumors are true. The first of a new series, readers will be anxiously awaiting the next installment. Highly recommended!
Don't call it CookieClub! Lol! Edna, Verna, Mary, Wilma are friends of different district, meet each other twice a month, to chat, knit/crochet, bake cookies for Sunday church services.
Wow, what a lovely amish book, you feel to be there with them, chat laugh and worry about life events and people. the characters are so real.
nice cover! I reccomend the book, enjoy!
This is a great new series by Sarah Price. The story revolves around a group of 4 Amish women whose chlidren are now teenagers or young adults. They meet at Edna's house to bake cookies for their church districts desserts for ever other Sunday. While baking and bemoaning their worrisome children they decide to focus on one child at a time and turn them around.
Verna has a 21 year old outspoken daughter who loses every job she has ever had due to speaking her mind. Edna finds the perfect job for Myrna...caring for a very disorganized widower with 4 young children. Myrna spouts off her mind at her interview with the widower setting him straight about her job. Her organization is in for a new experience! I really enjoyed this book!
Great Book !!!
This book was a great start to a new series, I loved the reactions of the characters to the things that happened throughout the book. They were very believable, and they made me want to bake cookies :) .
I thought Myrna was a good character and I loved the play between her and Zeke, I wish it would have been a longer story as I didn't want it to end :)
The only thing that I didn't particularly like was all the bouncing around between the characters, however it was still a great story, and I would definitely recommend adding it to your TBR Pile. I can't wait to read the next book in the series !! I really love Sarah Price's Books :)
I volunteered to read this book from Kingston Books in exchange for my honest feedback, the thoughts and opinions expressed within are my own.
I received this book from Net Falley in exchange for an honest review
A sweet glimpse into the Amish way of life. Amish language and words sprinkled throughout the book plus yummy cookie recipes at the end!
Myrna Bontrager has a history of losing jobs. Her outspoken nature, honesty,’and her love to organize has cost her more than one job. Finally she is forced to work at her father’s hardware store....cleaning the back room until another job comes along. Her mother is actively involved with several other community members who bake cookies for morning worship
Widower Ezekiel Riehl is in need of help to care for his young children following the tragic loss of his wife to breast cancer.
Will Myrna be able to effective care for four young children, develop a relationship with the children and bring order and organization to the widower’s home and life ?
The Amish Cookie Club and Sarah Price are a great addition to the reading list of Amish genre fans. This book is sweet, charming and fun. The characters become friends and you will want to join their little group. I hope there is more books in this series. I highly recommend this book.
Another winner!! What a wonderful read.....just what is needed in this new season of Spring! What happens when you get 4 meddling mothers, 4 of their children, a weekly gab fest (Cookie Club) and the idea that the mothers know what's best for their children???? You get the Amish Cookie Club!! In this first installment, you will find a strong willed, organization minded, knows what she wants daughter. How will they ever get her to where someone will want to marry her??? ENTER... the Cookie Club. This novel will take you through the metamorphosis of a young woman to a young mother, for 4 children and a loving wife, to a widower. Twists and turns, ups and downs make this novel of Sarah Price a sure to be favorite series. I enjoyed every minute of it and the special treat of several recipes, soon to become favorites! I am so looking forward to the next book, in this series, to see just how the mothers find a way for their children to find love and happiness!! Another winner!!!
When Myrna’s mother, and her mother’s friends, hatched a plan to help Myrna find a job that was suited for her, little did they know, it was just what the doctor ordered. I loved reading the love story of Myrna and Zeke. It was also fun to see characters from other books that Sarah has written mentioned at different points of the novel as well. It’s like a little sequel within a different series, and I love it, as we’ve grown to love the characters throughout all of her books. I can’t wait for An Amish Cookie Club Christmas to be released as well!
Myrna's gift is organization; however, what is organized to her may not be organized to someone else. Reorganizing merchandise leads to her job loss. She ends up back in her father's hardware store in the back. One of the Amish women who bakes cookies with her mother suggests Myrna might be able to help a widower by caring for his four children and keeping house while he minds the farm. Zeke makes it clear he lacks interest in marrying again. The rumor mill suggests he does not believe in medicine and that he refused medical treatment for his late wife. Everyone who encounters him finds him to very nice and caring and don't understand how he might be so conservative as to refuse medical treatments but still allow running water and other more progressive things. The Amish women wonder almost immediately if Myrna and Zeke will marry. While this is not great literature, it is the perfect escape. It was the right book at the right time--a clean, wholesome romance. This review is based on an electronic copy received through NetGalley with the expectation of an honest review. (3.5 stars)
This was the first Amish boom I’ve read and I couldn’t put it down. Such a sweet story and very engaging characters. I found myself laughing at Myrna’s outspokenness and the brother teasing. I can wait to read the next book about the Cookie Club!
Sarah Price really knows how to write Amish fiction. With that, she has done it again. This was an awesome read. For best friends on a mission. I will definitely be reading about Edna and all of her cookie club friends again. Looking forward to the next book. Well done Sarah Price!!!
Best friends Edna, Vera, Wilma and Mary meet together every other week to bake cookies for their Amish fellowships and to make time for each other. Their "cookie club" provides a place to reconnect and unburden. When Vera's daughter, Myrna, is fired from multiple jobs, the group conspires to help her find her place... and perhaps, even a beau. Widower Ezekiel desperately needs help with his four young children, and for awhile it appears as though a romance may be kindled between he and Myrna. But when a misunderstanding regarding his deseased wife occurs, Myrna finds herself on edge in their relationship. Will the truth be revealed in time for this two to connect and find happiness together?
Sarah Price was a new to me author and I loved the way she was able to weave together several minor and major characters throughout the book. I was a little worried about Myrna in this one. Although I was pretty confident that things would turn out alright, the author had me guessing throughout most of the book. The Amish Cookie Club was a wonderful story about second chances, the stickiness of gossip, and finding ones self. Perfect for a light, uplifting read.
*Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
This was a fun, lighthearted read. I almost have up reading it after the first couple of chapters. I'm glad I stuck with it. It was wonderful to watch the transformation of Myrna from being strongly opinionated to compassionate and responsible, all while still using her gifts. Not a lot of substance, but a delightful read.
Sarah Price is starting to become a favorite Amish fiction writer of mine. This story was sweet and innocent. It also showed another way people fall in love. Sometimes it isn't two people coming together and starting fresh. Sometimes one person is meant to fit into an already made family.
Edna was determined to stay in contact with her three childhood friends. So she decided they should all get together every other Friday to bake cookies and catch up. On one such Friday, the women decide to help one another out with their daughters. First up, Verna's daughter Myrna.
Myrna is very opinionated. So much so that she has been fired from almost every shop in Shipshewana. (I travel to Shipshewana, IN at least twice a year. Every place mentioned is familiar to me. Even if I didn't Sarah Price is so good with imagery you feel like you are there.) Myrna's mother and friends decide to get her a job where her particular brand of honesty is appreciated. Myrna just so happens to be perfect to help out the widowed Ezekiel,
Ezekiel is the widowed father of 4 children all under the age of nine. Myrna agrees to assist with his children and household chores until he can find a permanent solution. The children adore Myrna. Including the cookies she learned to make from her mother, and the children start to grow on Myrna, As does their father.
This story was different from other's by Sarah Price or most books I read. Normally when Price introduces the main character she sticks with only their point of view. The Amish Cookie Club switches viewpoints more than I am used to but it is easy to keep up with. Plus, that is just like life. It's not just one person's story. Everyone else's continue as well.
What a touching story of two people who heal their brokenness together! I wasn't sure how this journey was going to play out....Myrna seems to change almost overnight, and I thought it would happen a little more gradually...but it works out nicely. I've not heard of that particular sect of Amish, but it seems like CPS would be all over that...and I'm not sure that I'd want to read a book strictly written from their perspective. It's so far from my own that it'd be difficult to relate to. However, the last few chapters explain a lot of things (no spoilers here) and make you a little more understanding. Also - the yummy recipes! My mouth is watering for cookies now!
This book is a delightful look into the lives of four Amish ladies who meet to make cookies for their church services. Close friends, they share about their children and the particular needs in their lives.
Verna’s daughter, Myrna, is very outspoken, which goes against the grain of many of the Amish, as well as the Englishers in the community. So much so, she has gotten fired of every job she has had in town and no one will hire her. The ladies decide something needs to be done and one of them learns of an Amish widower with 4 children who needs someone to help with the running of the household and care of the children. Myrna balks at this suggestion as she has never really cared for children and is not sure she is qualified.
This is a lovely story of changes in lives, realization that you can’t believe everything you hear about someone, and true understanding and love.
I enjoyed this book very much. It was a fast read and I highly recommend it. I received a copy from Kensington Books and Netgalley. This is my honest review.
I was excited when I first heard about this book as I have surely loved Sarah Price's Amish Classics and Fairytale series. I really did like this book but I could have done with less of the cookie club members and more of Zeke and Myrna. I will be picking up the next book in the series though.
This is a very well written book. The author makes you feel like you are there, you can feel all of the emotions and see all of the scenes in your mind. This book will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. I really enjoyed reading this sweet Amish romance and loved the recipes at the end. Thank you Kensington Books Zebra via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. This is my honest opinion.
