A Patchwork of Clues by Sally Goldenbaum is the first in a series of mysteries under “ A Queen Bees Quilt Shop Mystery”.
This is the beginning of what I feel will be a great cozy mystery series.
This novel presents a group of several, strong female characters that are all different, yet all bonded together by the passion (some moreso then others in reference to Kate) of quiltmaking.
I love the different personalities of the characters Kate, Po, Maggie, Eleanor, Leah, Phoebe, Selma, and Susan. I feel like they all mesh well, and are likeable characters, and that many novels could be developed based on the nuances and complexities presented with each character.
I thouroughly enjoyed the premise and the mystery did not truly reveal itself until the end, which was also enjoyable.
A great read with 5/5 stars.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this in return for my honest review.
I have been a fan of Sally Goldenbaum's knitting series from the very first book. Learning that there's now a new series thrills me to pieces. A Patchwork of Clues is a delight, and I am already impatiently tapping my toe for the next in the series. Ms. Goldman's talent for making a reader feel a scene is huge. Her descriptive narrative is welcoming and lovely. Her characters all well-drawn and believable. I can't wait to sit down around the quilting table with all of them once again.
I am a huge fan of Sally Goldenbaum's Seaside Knitters series so I was very interested in seeing this new quilting series and now I am just as delighted with the new cast of characters. Portia "Po" Paltrow is out for her morning run when she finds the murdered body of local art history professor and wealthy antique store owner Owen Hill in the quilting shop of her good friend Selma Parker. While the local police believe this was a burglary gone wrong, the quilters can't believe anyone would be looking to rob a fabric store when there were so many richer pickings available. They look into who else would have wanted to see Owen dead, and the women manage to figure out the reason for the crime. While the mystery plot was well developed, it was the friendship between the quilters, women of all different ages who share the same passion that makes this such a special book and makes me look forward to getting to know them better in future volumes.
