I could NOT put this novel down!! I have been searching for a fantasy novel that I could lose myself in, now that I could practically quote all of the Shannara novels. I. have. found. it. Fireborn was absolutely INCREDIBLE! The author is masterful at creating a setting, laying down a scene and plunking her readers directly into the middle of the fray. The characters are brilliant, each with their own personalities, flaws, quirks and humor. I absolutely fell in love with them. I couldn't help but love Deo, and couldn't wait to see how his story would play out. Hallow had me at 'hello' and needless to say, Allegria stole the show. I need MORE. So much more. Dear Katie Macalister, I need everything that you have ever written or will write!

This review isn't going to be long. I'm not a huge fan of a review rehashing the entire plot and spoiling it for everyone.

This is the first book by Katie Macalister that I have read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. This was a riveting story. . I enjoyed how the characters grew and interacted with each other in this book. I will purchase more of her books.

I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

I another excellent book by Katie Macalister. I love her way with words and phrasing. This book is more YA/NA than some of her other series. I loved both the heroes and the heroine and can't wait to see where the next book goes.

Rated 3.5 Stars

I liked Fireborn especially the world and the abilities of the different factions. However there were some issues, like cohesion. There were jumps within the timeline without any indication. The romance between seemed to come out of left field to me because I expected it to blossom between elsewhere. I'm still looking forward to reading the next in this action packed and adventurous series with the cliffhanger of sorts ending.

Although parts of this book pulled me in like a story should, overall I was disappointed. There was no depth to it; scant world building, no character development, jumpy relationship development, juvenile good vs bad plot with no explanation for the conflict. The pacing was awkward. POV changes were inconsistent. The author needs to revisit "how to build a satisfying sex scene." About the only thing that read well was the action. The characters are on the move most of the time, going various places to fight.

E-arc provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was not the first book I've read from this author and I have to admit that this one was my favourite one!
I won't say anything about the stunning cover that made me want to read this book.
I love when authors and publishers put an effort into the aesthetic of the book as well.
Anyway, the story was very compelling and I like how over-descriptive some scenes or places were.
The characters were excellently flashed out and I found them very likeable.
I thoroughly enjoy this and would recommend!

I am a fan of Katie MacAlister. Her Aisling Grey Guardian series is one of my all time favorites. I appreciate her sense of humor and the overall lighthearted and positive attitude in her books. Fireborn is a bit of a departure from what I was expecting. It still has some of her signature humor and frankness, but this is much more about fantasy world building. For the most part I think she did a great job. Honestly it initially felt more like a YA Fantasy novel until some of the more intimate interpersonal relationships started. Enough of the story was wrapped up that this could be accepted as a standalone novel, but there is still enough unresolved and unexplained that I will definitely be looking forward to more in the series. Hallow was my favorite character in this. He is an arcanist and wields some impressive magic. Allegria was a decent character, another magic user, a lightbringer, able to call on the power of the sun. Together they are a formidable couple, though their relationship seemed a little too quick. Deo is the other main character, though I honestly felt like his father, Lord Israel was more interesting. I think Hallow and Allegria were definitely the focus of this story, and assume that Deo will have more of a leading role in a book to follow. This was a fast and fun read. I easily got through it in two days and it was very enjoyable. It's one of those great books to just turn your brain off and just immerse yourself into a different world, rooting on the good guys against the forces of evil.
