Laura Swallow reads her own obituary in the newspaper and Facebook also announces her death...what on earth is going on and why does someone hate her enough to haunt her like that?
This was a psychological thriller that I found mildly enjoyable, it was a quick read, but not one that stayed with me. It seemed a bit clunky and I didn't like Laura, but can't pinpoint why. I don't think I'll read anything else by Miranda Rijks, sorry!
Excellent, well written story. This author is up to great things and I cannot wait to read another one!
I Want You Gone
I wanted to like this book, but I just couldn’t get into it. The insertion of bigger words throughout didn’t flow well with the how the book was written, which was very amateurish. Aside from that, there lacked depth, I didn’t connect with the characters, and the protagonist irritated me. I finished this book for the sake of finishing it and writing a review.

What would you do if your death is announced on Facebook but you’re very alive? Laura Swallow decides it is just a mistake and doesn’t think too much about it. She has so many other personal issues to deal with like her daughter Mel not liking college and her ex-husband letting her know that he is expecting a new baby soon. But then the death announcements start to ramp up and Laura begins to believe that someone is out to get her, maybe even kill her the same way her sister died. Who would want to do this to her though. Her best friend believes it is the Dr. she just started seeing and although Laura doesn’t think so her friend is admit that it is Dr. Ben. After getting her death certificate in the mail, Laura realizes she doesn’t know who to trust but whoever is after her isn’t stopping and soon it is affects her not just her personal life but her job as well.
This is a psychological thriller that is hard to put down. The story is well written and flowed effortlessly. It took about half of the novel to figure out who was behind the plot to destroy Laura’s life although but it was still entertaining to figure out why. I will definitely be reading more by this author.

This book starts with some anonymous profile posting Laura Swallow's death on facebook and then an obituary is printed in the newspaper, all while she is alive. More and more weird things start happening to her and there are several people in her life that could possibly be causing this drama.
I liked this book. I thought it was a quick read. I think it was pretty clear who was behind all of the shenanigans, it was just a matter of uncovering how and why. While I was pretty sure I knew who was behind the goings on, Laura surely wasn't and I wanted to shake her because her behavior was so off the wall at times. Anyway, though I had some issues with Laura, it was an entertaining book and I would read more from this author.
This book kept me turning pages and entertained even though I figured out who was behind all the issues from the beginning.
Laura is a divorced single mother who is an estate agent and who gets a frantic call from her daughter Mel after seeing a post on facebook that her mom is dead. The terrible events keep getting worse as the days go on. She is unable to trust anyone. Is it the hot doctor Ben that she met through her friend Anna or her ex husband or his new love? Or could it be the boy from her High School who she was unkind to and who has suddenly shown up out of nowhere, wanting her to show him extravagant houses? Or possibly someone she hasn’t even thought of.
The book keeps your attention and keeps the pages turning. I couldn’t put it down!
Wow! This book grabbed me from the beginning! Very intriguing and suspenseful. I felt like I was right there next to Laura trying to figure out who was responsible for all these strange things happening to her. The only thing that I didn't like was how quick she was to start suspecting Ben. I very much enjoyed this book and planning on reading more by Miranda Rijks. Thank you NetGalley and Inkubator Books for an ARC of this book!
Laura reads an obituary in the newspaper stating she is dead. Laura then series of events occur start occurring in her everyday life that she has no control over. Laura is divorced and is suspicious of everyone in her life including her new love interest. Who could be turning her life upside and why?
It look me a while to get thru this book. I thought it dragged a little and the villain was predictable. Best chapter is definetaly the last chapter.

A quick page turner that left me guessing! Nice quick read. Characters were well developed and engaging. I’ll look forward to more from this author!
An enjoyable read. Not always the smoothest writing but it kept the tension going as the net gradually closed around Laura. The one thing I would say, though, was that it was really obvious to me almost from the start who the real culprit was. After the first few chapters, none of the author's attempts to throw me off the scent worked and I began to feel frustrated with Laura for not seeing what was so clear. It wasn't as if the person in question ever came across as very nice! Still, a quick fun read.
One star would be a generous rating in the case. The dialogue is beyond inane (examples: she screeched, he sneered, the car trembled, I will kill you after crying over spilt milk. Get the picture? I have never read dialogue so amateurish. Save yourself time and just skip this one, There are many wonderful books out there, well written suspense mysteries, This unfortunately isnt one of them.
I Want You Gone was a quick enjoyable read. Very fast paced and full of action. So why two stars and not my usual five? The villain of the story is obvious and the stupidity of Laura as a character was really off putting, add in an ending that offered no explanation, I thought there would be another two chapters at least!
Overall it was okay but I would be disappointed if I had paid for this book.
Wow. Just wow. I had been in a sort of a reading slump since the beginning of the year, but I went ahead and took a chance on this book yesterday afternoon and was not left disappointed. From beginning to the end this book was full of fast paced, suspenseful energy. It's the type of psychological thriller that will leave you guessing "who done it?" all throughout the book. I had suspicions that the person out to get/harm Laura might have been two of the five characters that she had somewhat personal dealings with, but the more I dove into the book, my suspicions about one of the characters proved to be true. I couldn't possibly imagine how daunting it had to be for Laura to discover that someone she was close to despised her so much that they would go through such lengths to hurt her. I wouldn't know what to do if I found out that someone posted on Facebook that I was dead and then proceeded to place my obituary and death notice in the local newspaper. I praise the author for being able to write such a riveting story that was able to pull me out of my reading slump and engage me in such a way that I could barely put the book down. This book was read in under 24 hours which includes having to break to go to sleep last night. I would highly recommend this psychological thriller to anyone, but be aware, it does play games with your mind. Kudos to the author and thank you NetGalley for the amazing read.
I enjoyed this book so much that i read it all in one night, practically in one sitting! There's something about this author's writing that just pulled me and and I felt so in tune with the atmosphere that she created. Once I started I just had to keep reading to find out what came next. The concept of some unknown person out to get Laura, the main character, isn't exactly a new idea, but it enfolds in a realistic way. And of course, the more that happens to her, the more people think she's just being paranoid which causes her further upset, which causes her to seem even more unhinged! A vicious circle.
I can't say that it's exactly a twist when you find out who has been tormenting her, but the fact that I was still engrossed in the book even when I had figured it out just shows how good this author is. Although, you may find yourself rolling your eyes at Laura, because she took a very long time to figure out what was really happening to her. I do think her character should have been a little more observant of the true nature of everyone in her life. Sure, you can say the stress was keeping her from figuring it out, or maybe she was subconsciously denying it, but it's still implausible that she would be so clueless for so long.
The only thing I felt was missing was one more chapter to let us know how everything turned out for everyone in the long run. The typical epilogue, you might say, so that the reader isn't left wondering about her professional career, love life, etc. However, I will gladly wait to find that out in a sequel!
I Want You Gone by Miranda Rijks is a psychological thriller revolving around real estate agent Laura Swallow. Someone is out to get her, starting with, what Laura thought, was a prank. The prank turns into a series of escalating events that soon have Laura questioning all the people in her life. Who could be doing this, her ex-husband and fiance´, what about the man she went out with, or how about one of her closest friends? Will she have time to figure this out before it all comes crashing down on her?
This is such a well written book that I had a hard time putting it down! This book is truly a page turner. It was such an easy read and super enjoyable. Laura is written just like any other person, very relatable, which is probably one other reason this book was so good. The situations she is put in is not out of the world crazy, it could happen in the real world. This book keeps you guessing with these tiny little hints but you just never know for sure!
I honestly would love to give this book a 5 out of 5 stars but I cannot. I will give it a 4 out of 5 stars. There were a couple scenes that haste was necessary but the characters didn't hurry, more like meandered when they could have. There were also some editing mistakes, grammar and punctuation. Also, when two characters not related to one another and from different walks of life use the same word, apoplectic, to me, it takes away from the characters. There should be definite differences but the author didn't write them like that.
I cannot believe how quickly this book pulled me in. I was just going to read the first chapter but simply could not put it down. The main character was well drawn and likeable. The plot moved quickly and held my interest until the end which was unexpected. Great weekend read.
Interesting start and just gets better as you keep reading. Needed to stay up late to finish.
Stylish, slightly neurotic and thoroughly enjoyable read.
Good twist ending I didn’t see coming.
Excellent, fast paced psychological thriller. I could not devour this book quick enough. Laura feels like her life is falling apart at the seams. Her husband recently left her for another woman, her beloved sister was hit by a car and killed, and now her daughter calls her hysterical saying she has been reported dead on Facebook. As the weird events start stacking up, Laura soon realizes that someone is out to get her. While Laura doesn’t have many friends, she feels the ones she has are trustworthy or are they? Taut and twisted, this book is not to be missed.
3.5 stars
I read this in one sitting because I was so captivated by the mystery. The author has done a fab job of creating a nightmare scenario and a slow burn suspenseful plot that I just couldn't put down. I really felt for Laura and her plight as she tries to unravel why all of a sudden, she's supposedly dead. I found myself second guessing my lead suspect as the story progressed and was genuinely thrilled with the twist. All in all, a really great thriller that took me surprise.
Laura Swallow is dead.
A life cut tragically short, says the newspaper obituary.
But that’s a lie.
Estate agent Laura did not die in a car accident. She is alive and well.
At first, Laura thinks it’s a sick joke.
But multiple announcements of her death are followed by increasingly sinister real-life events. Already fragile, struggling to recover from a recent divorce, Laura is plunged into a living nightmare.
Who can she trust? Her new lover? Her clients and work colleagues? What about her ex-husband and his smug fiancée? Can Laura even rely on her best friends? And why is it that Laura’s present troubles are so tied up with her sister’s sudden death all those years ago?
But one thing Laura is sure of – someone out there wants her to suffer. Wants her gone.
Forever.
