As a huge fan of thrillers and mysteries, “Catch Your Death” was a book that I really wanted to read. A tense and well-written novel, the story was well executed and the characters were well drawn and interesting.
This book is part of a series but it was fine as a standalone as I felt that Kierney Scott provided enough back-story without impairing my enjoyment or spoiling the impact of the plot. It really held my interest and the story whizzed along at a great pace. The mystery was very intriguing and the main character was multi-layered and realistic.
I enjoyed this thriller so much that I am very keen to start on the previous books I’ve missed.
I would recommend this book, for sure!
I received a complimentary digital copy of Catch Your Death at my own request from Bookouture via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
After recovering from her tragedy, Special agent Jess Bishop has gone off the tracks a bit and not in the right frame of mind as someone from her past is coming back to haunt her and make her seem like she is crazy. When Jess is asked a favor from her boss and someone she sees as a friend to check on her nephew at his school. Jess agrees, but when she arrives, it will not be the sight that she wants to view as she discovers her friend's son dead. It turns out that this boarding school has had five young boys all committed suicide over the past few months, and the worst thing is the school is keeping it under wraps and not informing the parents. It turns out that the deaths are connected to a social media app game which provides you with dangerous challenges to prove your worth. Can Jess and her team get to the bottom of it, even if it means unraveling years of a secret society and boys group? As well as find out who is attacking her with memories of her father and his victims? Though written with style reminiscent of the British mysteries, I quite enjoyed the storyline so the slower pace did not bother me as much as it usually would have. If you love murder and pacts and unraveling the evil underbellies of boarding school life, then check out Catch Your Death by Kierney Scott.
This is part of a series but can easily be read as a standalone. The book really held my interest and the story zipped along at a good pace. The mystery was intriguing and the main character was multi layered and realistic and really well written. I would be interested in reading the previous books because this has piqued my interest.
#CatchYourDeath #NetGalley I love this series and I love the character of Jess Bishop. As always there is plenty of action and the book is very easy to read. Jess and her team push themselves to the limit to solve their cases and jess is very protective of her team. What stops me giving this 5 stars is two things - There is a lot of repetition about the trauma that jess has suffered in the past which has made her so pig headed in some instances - the first couple of times we hear about it, it adds to the plot but them becomes a bit boring and slightly irritating. The second thing was that the conclusion seemed rushed - after all the build up, I would have liked to have seen more of the action of the interrogations/confessions etc. Still a great read and I wouldn't hesitate to read more in this series.
Detective Jess Bishop is officially off work but at the request of a colleague to check on her nephew she stumbles upon the suicide of a young man at a prestigious college. It turns out this is not the first or even the second. Jess is tasked with looking into this but is thwarted at ever turn. Something more sinister must be at play. The more the team investigate the more dangerous it is for them. Full of intrigue the story gets deeper and deeper the more you read. Enjoyable book which was easy to read
A remarkably unique premise with tension practically crackling from the pages. Who -- or what -- is causing the apparent suicides of several male students in a prestigious school? The ending will surprise you and send shivers down your spine. Definitely a great late-night read...that may cause some sleeplessness! Highly recommended.
*My sincerest thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me the privilege of reviewing an ARC at no charge.*
Number three in the series and a great addition to it. Jess and team are back doing what they do best. The main plot is close to home as Jeanie’s nephew is in trouble and she asks Jess to help her and so it begins. A great read, already looking forward to number four
Behind the gates of a prestigious college , five students have taken their lives . FBI agent Jess Bishop is called in to investigate . A chilling police procedural with a clever and mesmerizing plot ! Captivating story by a gifted storyteller ! Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture ! I voluntarily read and reviewed the book and all opinions are my own ! #Netgalley #Bookouture #CatchYourDeath
This book was gripping from the very first second. It drags you by the hand, at speed from beginning to end. Totally electrifying.
Catch Your Death by Kierney Scott was a good book, and would have been a great book, but I feel the storyline was too similar to many other secret societies at school. I enjoyed the book, but felt I had been through the plot before. So if you are new to this genre, it is an excellent read.....otherwise, a little too familiar.
This is the third book in the series featuring FBI Special Agent Jess Bishop. Jess is a very complex and troubled person, living with the knowledge that her father was a serial killer. Again, this book can be read as a standalone but so much of Jess’s past and personality are covered in the first two books which always helps for better understanding of the characters. We find Jess taking a call from Jeanie, her boss, to ask if Jess would help her find her missing nephew Levi. Her investigations take her to his private school where she finds him hanging in his room. Everything points to suicide but his Aunt knows different. When Jess discovers that a number of other boys, friends of Levi, appear to also have committed suicide she realises that there is something deeper going on. On discovering that a secret society, The Last Supper, are behind the deaths she realises that they will do whatever they need to guard their secrets.
We find Jess still struggling with relationships and still resorting to one night stands. There certainly is chemistry between her and her partner Jamison, but can Jess let down her barriers. This is an intense and gritty thriller with really likeable characters and plenty of red herrings along the way. A highly recommended read..
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
The author wrote a thriller that started with a bang and just kept going! The twists kept coming, so I couldn't put it down. I cannot wait to read more from this author!
When FBI Agent Jess Bishop is called by her boos asking for a favor, she can not say no, but everything will get upside down when she finds a teenager hung up in a very expensive school, the problem is that is not the first one that has killed himself. Of course she will start investigating it, but this case is much bigger than she ever expected to be.
Since the beginning this book has surprised me, Jess is not an easy person to work, she has complicated past and her social skills are not developed, but her team respects her and trusts her more than she thinks. She is the main character of the story, she is brave, intelligent and ready to sacrifice her life to uncover the truth. I really liked the other characters of her team, Jameson and Jess seem to have a deep past together, we’ll see if they work together is affected by their feelings.
It was interesting how the author tries to explain how power can corrupt people with some experiments that were done, I already knew them, but it was interesting how it was related to the case. The book talks about the suicide game that scared parents around the world after some teenagers appeared dead, a deadly game that I really can not understand their purpose; how can someone create a game making people to commit suicide?
I don’t want to make any spoiler, so I will not talk more about the case, but there are so many things to talk about…!
This is the third case of the Detective Jess Bishop, but you can read it as standalone, but I am sure that after reading this book, you’ll fall in love with the characters like me.
If you are searching for a quick read; nail bitting, gripping and addictive, start reading, you’ll not be able to put it down.
Catch Your Death, the third in the Jess Bishop series, is a suspenseful and gripping book which could be read as a stand-alone.
The apparent suicide of a teenager in a posh school, leads the police to the discovery of the cover-up of 4 more suicides in the same school. Further investigations soon reveal that the 5 deceased boys were all best friends.
The police primarily come to believe the suicides are the result of a game called The Last Supper. But as the team try to figure out who is behind this deadly game, they realize the truth may be much more sinister and they may be treading on the filthy grounds of buried secrets.
Thanks to the author, Bookouture and the NetGalley for providing me with a copy.
What an amazing book. I read it in just a few hours and in one day, I just didn’t want to put it down. From the opening scene, which will become clear later in the book, I was hooked.
Whilst there are three books in the series I have only read two of them, this one and book two ‘Cross Your Heart‘ which I also awarded five stars. I really must go back and read book one.
What I love about this series is that Jess isn’t your usual FBI agent, she has flaws, she pops pills likes sweets for an injury she sustained in the first book. She also has her own way of dealing with the pain! She is a woman that never gives up, she’s had to grow up dealing with a lot of issues which in this book are thrown to the forefront as the person(s) try to stop her from doing her job.
The book was intense and although you know from early on who is most likely trying to stop Jess, the bigger picture doesn’t reveal itself until late in the book which is why I was so gripped to the pages, I needed to know. I also needed to know what the opening scene meant as I couldn’t work out where it fitted into the story.
If you are after an edge of your seat, gritty, realistic thriller then give this series a read. Believe me, these books will have you yearning for more. I do hope that we will see Special Agent Jess Bishop again.
This is my first book by Kierney Scott but it definitely won’t be my last! A brilliant crime novel that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. My full review will be posted as part of the blog tour soon. Recommended.
This novel has reminded me how much I love a straight up crime novel with a contemporary setting and I need to make an effort to pick more up!
I was really intrigued by the concept of something sinister taking place at a prestigious school, and this didn’t disappoint.
Now if you’re not a fan of a typical crime novel, this probably isn’t for you. This has the lead character who has issues in their personal life, twisting the rules to get the culprit and some unofficial investigating thrown in. If you’re a fan of that sort of story (like I am) you’ll love this!
In fact this took the standard crime novel and really pushed it to something that was tense and intriguing. I devoured this within 48 hours as I just couldn’t put it down.
The characters were great (if not always likable), and the plot and investigation was cleverly done. And most importantly I was really into every twist and turn as we discover what really happened.
The ending was a little sudden, but everything had been put into place for it so it didn’t impact my enjoyment.
Overall a thrilling addition to the crime genre, and I’ve added the previous books in the series straight onto my TBR list!
The plot is a little too much, but the story is very well written and the characters are great. Filled with action, very easy to read and good entertainment.
What an amazing read; very well-written and difficult to put down! The death of innocent kids was truly hard to understand. I felt the loss and betrayal with each and every parent of these kids. And to find out how and why and who made me real mad. Catch Your Death is the kind of book that lingers with you. I’ll be recommending it to my friends for sure!
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture!
This is the 3rd in the series featuring the FBI’s Special Agent Jess Bishop, but can easily be read as a Stand-alone.
Jess is heading home, late one night, when she receives a call from her supervisor, Jeanie…..she’s worried about her nephew, Levi, as she’s been unable to get hold of him by phone and feels something is wrong.
Jess heads straight way to Levi’s rather exclusive school, the Gracemount Academy, but tragically she is too late and finds his body hanging in a bathroom….apparently suicide and she learns this is not the first boy this year….
So Jess starts investigating and finds a darker conspiracy than she expected, leading her and her team into danger, just who can she trust?
Jess Bishop is a bit of a troubled woman (understandable for someone whose dad is a serial killer (albeit in jail))..and looks for peace with some dubious ‘encounters’…but she’s dedicated to her job and her team….to a fault at times…I really felt for Jamison…he tries so hard and he loves her.
I really enjoyed Catch Your Death, it’s an easy read, but has so much going on to keep you hooked, with some great, likeable characters and the impulsive and sometimes reckless Jess, real escapism and a great read. I can thoroughly recommend it.
Thank you to Bookouture, the author and NetGalley for a free copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest review.
