Catch Your Death Kierney Scott

This is another one of those series that I really look forward to. A story with Special Agent Jess Bishop in it is bound to be gritty and borderline scary.

Jess is no ordinary agent; her father is a serial killer serving a life sentence, she shot and seriously wounded her one time partner Briggs, and in her last case best friend and fellow agent was killed. She uses random men for sex, quick, dirty sex, often in shady alleys outside equally shady bars to help her keep her mind off her troubles, and she swallows pain killers like smarties to help her with the pain in her disfigured hand, an injury she sustained at the hands of another mass killer.

So when her boss phones her and asks her to go and see her nephew in nearby academy, because he didn’t sound right on the phone, there is no surprise that she finds trouble.

The nephew Levi is found hung in the shower block, but Jess doesn’t believe it’s the suicide everybody else wants to believe it is. After a bit of digging she finds that there have been a series of suicides linked to an on line game “The Last Super”.

At first it is enough that teenagers are committing suicide to get Jess’s back up and start an investigation, but when she starts to be hindered at every stage of her inquiries she soon starts to piece together an even more disturbing story.

Worried by her previous experiences she is loath to get her team involved in the investigation into their boss’s nephews death, especially as she is beginning to build a conspiracy theory that she believes will put whoever looks into the deaths in danger.

But is it really as bad as Jess thinks, or is she simply, and finally, beginning to lose her mind.

This really is one of the best series on the shelves at the moment. Kierney Scott simply has no filters when it comes to writing her stories. The characters are really put through the mill throughout the books. Jess is one of the most challenging lead cop characters I’ve read but I just can’t help liking her.

These books fly by, it wouldn’t make any difference if they were 200 pages or 500 pages long the last page always arrives at such a pace you just don’t see it coming, and as usual when it arrived this time I was left wanting to dive straight into the next instalment.

Oh well I’m just going to have to wait, hopefully not for too long, to see what happens to the frustratingly good Jess Bishop

Wow what a rollercoaster of a read! This book was full of suspense and tension right from the beginning in fact it had me holding my breath in places. The words hard hitting spring to mind, the book tackles the sensitive subject of teen suicide and does it very well, it's emotional and brutal and had me turning the pages like a lunatic because I literally couldn't put the book down because it was so good. It's really fast paced and kept my interest right the way through, my mind was madly trying to keep up and guess who the bad guy was, but I didn't guess it, it was a complete surprise.

Since my cornea transplant I haven't been able to read as much and I am much slower, but I raced through this book and really put the hours in and read it in record time. That shows how bloody brilliant this book is, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend that you read the books in this series in order as there is a lot of history and back story to Jess and her team and I feel that you will get a better reading experience if your know the full story.

I don't hesitate in giving Catch Your Death 5 stars it really was a fantastic read. In fact if I could give it more I would, it's easily worth an 8. Give this series by Kierney Scott a go, you will not be disappointed!

Catch Your Death is an intense thriller, mystery and the third in the series for Jess Bishop FBI Agent who just happens to be a serial killer's daughter . Not so far fetched if you look at today's true crime books.

Jess and her team are looking into the apparent suicide of Levi, her bosses nephew , who is one of 5 teenagers in the same school to die.

The action is fast, the atmosphere is tense and the pages fly by.

I have only read this book in the series but I am so going to purchase the first two in the series.

It is a very entertaining read, maybe a bit far fetched at times, but that is what makes the book. A very unique story and I can't wait to read the next in the series. (You can read it as a stand alone but having not read the others, I wish I had )

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and get lost in Catch Your Death.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. Did not realise this was book 3 in the series of Jess Bishop and kind of wished I had read the first 2 and may be I could have given a better review.

This is book three in the series, and as such it should be read in order as this will provide the background you need to truly understand the character of Jess.

The author takes her characters on quite a journey in this story. Jess, in particular, is shown to be a determined person who won’t hesitate to put herself into danger in order to get to the truth. What Jess goes through in this book is horrendous, and on more than one occasion I did wonder if she would manage to come out the other end.

The author continues to surprise me with what she puts her characters through and I look forward to seeing what she brings us next.

Many thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for providing a copy.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Catch Your Death, the third novel to feature FBI Agent Jessica Bishop.

When Jess’s supervisor, Jeanie Gilbert, reaches out to her and asks her to check on the welfare of her nephew, Levi Smith, Jess immediately heads out to his exclusive school, Gracemount Academy but arrives too late as Levi has committed suicide, the fifth boy since the summer to do so. As Jess starts investigating this slew of suicides she meets something far darker than she could imagine.

I thoroughly enjoyed Catch Your Death which is a tense, action packed thriller with plenty of twists and turns. It doesn’t score particularly highly in the realism stakes but it isn’t intended to. Instead it is a high octane read with a daunting premise (which has been speculated on as being true in crime circles) and an exciting plot. It held my attention from start to finish as I rode the roller coaster with Jess. I particularly liked the irony of the ending and the way it shows the efficacy of spin.

Jess Bishop is a very troubled woman and even the FBI Director questions how she passed the psychological evaluation. Cheating is the simple answer, she knows the answers they look for and is happy to supply them. Jessica is a rule follower but the trauma of discovering at a young age that her father is a serial killer has damaged her. She trusts no one, keeps her feelings to herself and indulges in one night stands with strangers. On the plus side she is dedicated to getting justice for the victims and investigates tenaciously. She is mostly a team player but in this case she and her partner investigate alone to protect the team. She is growing on me as the series progresses.

Catch Your Death is a good read which I have no hesitation in recommending.

I liked the plot and the pacing. The dialogue (especially in the first half of the book) seemed really stilted and formal (perhaps more contractions would help?). If I could give half stars, this would be a 3.5.

I haven't read a new series that I liked so much since I discovered Ms. Marson's Kim Stone. Jess Bishop is the daughter of a serial killer who grew up to become one of the good guys. Working for the FBI, she really cares about the victims and their families, since she feels guilty for all the grief caused by her father. This is my first book in the series (and I am literally downloading the first two installments as I type this) but I didn't feel like I was missing the backstory. The characters are all well defined so you know where they all stand without having to rely on repetitive exposition. Jess is very damaged, not only psychological but also physically, but she is so resourceful that she gets out of the most hopeless of circumstances. Really, her plight kept getting more and more complicated and she still found a way to fight back. Jess is strong and a born fighter and the rest of her team all bring something to the table. The last part was unbearably suspenseful. This is an excellent book and I'm glad to have found another series I can love and get invested in.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, NetGalley/Bookouture!
