I received a complimentary copy of this book and all opinions expressed are my own. Overall ok book for me. A bit of drama, a sick child, characters were presented fine. Story flowed well.

Milly and Matt Foster planned to have a family, they have everything ready and the one thing missing is a baby. Being adopted Milly wanted to have an intimate connection with a child of her own, after a series of tests she finds out she has premature ovarian insufficiency and at thirty four she’s basically in early menopause.

Milly's shattered, her best friend Anna and Matt’s brother Jack offer to be donors, Milly becomes pregnant, they assume they have covered everything in the parenting agreement and Milly’s eagerly waiting for her baby to be born. The birth doesn’t go as planned, none of them are prepared for the roller coaster of emotions they will feel, for Milly she feels nothing and she doesn't even want to hold her baby girl.

Milly feels like a failure, she has what she's always wanted and when Anna steps into to help her look after baby Alice, it causes tension and the friendship ends. When Alice is four, Milly contacts Anna, a heartbreaking diagnosis brings the two friends together and young Alice has the love and support of the two most important women in her life.

Not My Daughter, is a story about infertility, post postpartum depression, and when a child receives a terrible medical diagnosis. The story will make you feel all kinds of emotions, happy, hopeful, sad and mad and you will need a box of tissues. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review and four stars from me.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.

After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.

I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.

Beautiful, thought provoking and insightful! This is one of the most heart wrenching books I've read. I'm just upset it took me so long to get to. Strong characters and an interesting storyline. I'd happily read another by Kate Hewitt any day.

I would particularly like to thank Bookouture and the Netgalley website for this partnership.

I was immediately drawn to the cover of this book. It shows a mother hugging her child and this catchphrase that makes you want to read the book: "You risked everything for her but can you keep her safe".

We find Milly who dreams of being a mother but with her husband Matt they can't have one, she was adopted. But luck will smile on them, Anna her best friend and Jack Matt's brother will be the donors. Except the four of them won't be ready to face their feelings. And as their daughter Alice grows up... at the age of four she'll know the truth.

A book read almost in one go, so much so that I hung on to the story so moving, captivating, addictive with lots of suspense and twists and turns and endearing characters.

This one is heartbreakingly good. Focuses on infertility, adoption, IVF, friendship, family, terminal illness, post-partum depression. So much here! But not overdone. This novel rings true with characters that could be any one of us. I enjoyed this fast read! Thank you NetGalley and publishers for providing an digital ARC.

What a heartbreaking novel, on the par with an author like Jodi Picoult.
The book deals with a medical condition not a lot is know about, but still it can affect a lot of people's lives.
Heartbreaking until the end. Recommended.

This book was definitely challenging as if dealt with the sensitive topic of infertility and egg donation. It was definitely an ethical dilemma at times.

A enjoyable read.

Wow, this book is an absolute must-read, it will have you hooked!

Milly has always wanted a child, and is heartbroken when it seems like it might not happen. But with her best friend Anna, and brother-in-law Jack, as donors, it seems that their dream might finally come true.

Alice is born, and there are so many mixed feelings from everyone involved. It’s a very complicated situation.

It’s difficult to review this book without giving too much away, but it’s just such a beautiful and poignant book. We know from the prologue that there is some sort of diagnosis given to Alice when she is four, and as the tale unfolds, the complications of her conception become all important.

All the characters in the book have their own flaws and issues, but at heart, they all love Alice, and will do whatever is necessary to help her.

A beautiful and powerful story of love, friendship and motherhood, it will bring tears to your eyes, and stay with you long after you finish it.

Oh my goodness, what an emotional heartbreaking story of family and friendship. It is told in two parts - the first one is up until Alice is born. The second part continues four years later . This is a story that will stay with me for a long time. Highly recommended

Anna’s hands tense on Alice and she hesitates. In that endless pause, I see all I need to know. She doesn’t want to give Alice to me – not now, and not ever. And part of me doesn’t even blame her…

Milly always dreamed of being a mother. Adopted herself, she has always imagined a powerful intimate connection with a child of her own. So when she and her husband Matt are told they can’t have children, her dreams are shattered.

But then their loved ones offer the ultimate gift – Milly’s best friend Anna and Matt’s brother Jack will be donors so that Milly can carry a child and finally have a chance to be a mother. And with everyone accepting and open, Milly believes that nothing could could go wrong.

Except none of the four people involved are prepared for the feelings that will threaten their most important relationships as their precious, longed-for daughter Alice grows up and receives a heartbreaking diagnosis.

Then those who love her best will have to decide what it means to be a parent, and to make decisions with far-reaching and devastating consequences… for Alice, and for themselves.

****
It feels wrong to say how much I enjoyed this book, due to the subject matter that comes later. However, i did enjoy it even though it is so desperately sad.

The book is so well written and researched, and each character you can really resonate with and understand (although you might not agree with), their thought processes and decisions at various different times.

Really recommended. 4.5* rounded up to 5*.

Interesting story of friendship. What should I do being a true friend for their happiness. Do I just think about their happiness? I liked when later each thinks back on how and why they became friends. Stunning, well written and one of her best books.

I just finished Not My Daughter by Kate Hewitt and I am emotionally spent. What a story, oh my gosh, it had me feeling different emotions throughout. Milly and Matt find out they are not able to have children on their own, so go to her best friend and his brother for some assistance. This gift causes some weirdness, but they work through it. That is until Alice is born and then things begin to go haywire in some pretty crazy ways. I do not want to give up too much, but will say it is a ride you will not want to get off of, you will have trouble putting this one down.

There was great character development and the story flowed well. The characters were interesting and as I said before, you will not want to put this book down until the end. Make sure to have a good amount of tissues handy, there may be some ugly crying going on. This is a story you will not soon forget, I highly recommend it.
