A big thank you to NetGalley and Relay Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This had potential but fell short for me. The characters were odd. Connie, was just odd at the beginning. Who says stuff like that to a complete stranger in the workplace! Cringe!! Brian seemed ok but then the whole thing with that Felcity! Then his guy pal tells him remember life is about money! Weird His family was great. Odd mixture of snob rich and Looney tunes with Connie. I give this a 3.
I'm usually up for a story about a billionaire boss and his lovely, lowly employee falling in love, accidental pregnancy or not - they may not be the most realistic, but they go down very well with a cup of tea and some chocolate.
But in this case, neither the characters nor the story did it for me. The plot wasn't too bad, although the hero's pursuit of marriage with another woman for business purposes was a little off putting.
But I just couldn't warm to the characters at all. I didn't find Connie quirky, I found her annoying and her behaviour in the work place cringe worthy, rather than amusingly 'different'. Brian didn't impress me too much either. Not as a father to be or as a business man - so hung up on that billionaire status, and as for the IT issue- has the man never heard of due diligence?! And generally, the dialogue between the characters didn't really flow while I was reading it either. I found it hard to enjoy the romance when I didn't like the characters.
I was gifted a free copy of this book by netgalley in return for my honest review.
The book itself was a fast paced, quick read and enjoyable. It started off fast but with an accidental baby, it made sense. I enjoyed the plotline and Brian, for the most part.
I couldn't get into Connie. She seemed immature and maybe lacking in brains, especially for being a developer. Coding isn't easy work, so she had to have the smarts to be one of the best to work for Brian. It just didn't show.
Being that the book obviously centered around her made me just want to hurry up and get the book over with. It had potential. But Connie's character didn't fit how she was being described.
Connie became pregnant following a one-night stand with her former boss. Brian is willing to financially support Connie and the baby, but he is committed to a business and personal merger with another woman, despite his interest in Connie. His sole focus is on changing his status as a millionaire to a billionaire as soon as possible, but doesn’t believe that can happen with Connie and the baby in his life. What he doesn’t count on is just how cold and repulsive he finds his future business partner and wife. Will he realize what he really wants in time?
I cried plenty for Connie. Brian has priorities. The problem is he's not making the best decisions when it comes to his life in my opinion. It takes him a while to figure that out. It really made for an interesting book to read.
A quick fun read. Brian and Connie had good chemistry and their romance didn't feel forced or rushed. Even though Brian's goals seemed cold and calculating, you can understand where the motivation comes from and empathize with his internal struggle. His interactions with his family humanize him and make you root for him to get his happy ending. Connie is smart and feisty with the endearing ability to say the exact wrong thing at the wrong time. She doesn't let setbacks keep her down and refuses to let Felicia walk all over her. Overall this was an entertaining story and I will definitely look for more books by this author.
Thank you NetGalley for the copy of The Billionaire’s Accidental Baby by Leslie North that I read and reviewed.
This book was a very fast romance book that I really enjoyed. I loved Connie and Brian’s story. Even though this was a short story I really enjoyed it and I even found myself laughing out loud at some of the things that came out of Connie’s mouth. Her character was a delight. This book was a great romance book full of humor and romance and just a great read.
I am giving this book five out of five stars.
