I have to say...it was pretty cheesy, but exactly what I was hoping for! I definitely recommend if you’re looking for a feel good quick read!
Khara is a Las Vegas waitress, who meets Adam (a prince, although she doesn't find out this detail for a while) and falls in love with him. They have a brief meeting in Vegas, and a year later they re-connect at Khara's best friend's wedding in a fictional European country. There's nothing surprising or too original about this story-line, but I enjoyed it more than I anticipated I would. It was very sweet and cute and kept my interest. An excellent beach read.
My Best Friend's Royal Wedding is a nice escape from reality. Adam is your typical playboy royal. Khara is a plucky hardworking waitress from Vegas. Opposites attract and hi-jinks ensues.
I didn't realize that this book was part of another series. And I found myself getting confused with the onslaught of side characters which have appeared in Romy Sommer's Westerwald trilogy. I think had I read those, I would have understood the backstory between Adam and Charlie better. Overall, this book was a nice way to pass the time. Nothing super dramatic takes place, and sometimes that's what you need in life is a quiet little book.
Khara is a cocktail waitress in a Vegas casino. Adam is a playboy who may or may not be next in line for a small country between Austria and Hungary. The two first meet in Vegas, where Adam propositions Khara. Disgusted with this douchebag who is obviously entitled, rich, and a rake, Khara refuses. Cut to a year later when Khara travels to Westerwald (another small European country) to be a bridesmaid in her friend Phoenix's wedding (she is marrying the Archduke of Westerwald even though she's a former waitress). Lo and behold, Adam is the best man. But while Khara remembers Adam's playboy ways, he doesn't recognize her. In the weeks leading up the wedding, Khara continually busts Adam's balls and refuses to be charmed by him. But how rock-solid is her resolution? Especially when Adam seems to be maturing and leaning into responsibility and adulthood before her very eyes?
My Best Friend's Royal Wedding is a fun romance. It's cheeky, and Khara is a great protagonist. And the dynamic character growth in Adam is a sight to behold. (Even if it does perpetuate the stereotype that women just want to change men.)
Overall I really enjoyed this book. It started off a little confusing for me but it came together nicely! I really liked the hero and the heroine. Thank you to netgalley for the arc!
My Best Friend’s Royal Wedding turned out to be a really good read. Author Romy Sommer brings humor and insight to a classic romance trope. Vegas waitress and college student Khara meets minor royal arrogant scumbag Adam at a casino dinner when she is his party’s server. He makes a terrible impression. A year later they meet again as maid of honor and best man at their mutual friends’ royal wedding. Adam has always relied on his charm to get his way, but Khara isn’t charmed...not one bit...well certainly not that she’d ever acknowledge, and she has a life plan. Adam’s royal uncle wants to make him his heir, but Adam hasn’t been in the small country in forever, and he has avoided responsibility for as long as he can remember. So we have oil and water and in Ms. Sommer’s capable hands the elements are shaken well with interesting situations, clever and often profound dialogue and yes, some heat. I totally enjoyed the time spent reading this delightful book and think you will also. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. Most highly recommend.
I really enjoyed this. I expected it to be predictable and whimsical but both Adam and Khara are dealing with some very real and complex issues whilst falling head over heels in love in the style of a captivating fairytale romance. Khara is a strong female lead and Adam runs much deeper than first impressions. A great, easy read - I’d love a series following some of the other characters that we meet briefly.
I was unable to read this novel due to formatting issues, but from the summary it appears to be an adorably fluffy romance that I think many will find enjoyable!
Thanks Netgalley, Harper Impulse and Killer Reads, and One More Chapter for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Khara finds herself somewhere she never would have imagined—she’s the sole bridesmaid in her best friend’s royal wedding. She finds the best man (also in the royal elite) to be a playboy and downright annoying, but is there something more to him?
This was a quick read and good romance. I was hoping for a bit more backstory and character development because the story moved quickly. Overall, it was a cute story and great for a lazy weekend.
