My Best Friend's Royal Wedding is a cute, frothy read involving a Las Vegas waitress and a could-be prince.

Khara is working hard to put herself through school and make a life for herself in Las Vegas. Adam has been offered a place of succession in the small country his family rules. They're both in the royal wedding of their respective best friends and will be in close proximity for several weeks.

I enjoyed the story. There were parts that made me laugh. I appreciated Khara feeling like a duck out of water in a royal situation. While it didn't grab me in the feels, it was an enjoyable book and a nice, light escape.

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley for review.

Title My Best Friend’s Royal Wedding

Author Romy Sommer

Release Date January 29, 2020

Description from Amazon

Cocktail waitress Khara Thomas never expected to trade the dazzling lights of Vegas for European aristocracy but as maid of honour in the royal wedding of the decade she’s forced into an unexpected spotlight when her best friend marries a prince.

Luckily for Khara, gorgeous but infuriating best man Adam Hatton is happy to show her the ropes. Khara knows Adam’s entitled rich guy type but as their connection grows she realises there’s more to this playboy than meets the eye. And when she learns his royal secret? She might just find that fairytales do come true…

Initial Thoughts

This book sounded like the perfect royal rom-com so I had to apply on NetGalley when I saw it.

Some Things I Liked

Princess Diaries vibes. Specifically, The Princess Diaries II – Royal Engagement. I absolutely adored how much this book reminded me of some of my favorite movies from my childhood. I’d also like to use this post to squeal with excitement over the news that a third installment of the series is being made into a movie sometime soon! Anyway, I love the lessons Adam gave to Khara and how he had to cope with the idea of his potential royal status. Both Adam and Khara represented aspects of Mia’s story and I loved that.
Fabulous banter. I loved the witty banter that all good rom-coms are marked with. This book was no exception and I really enjoyed that.
Multiple POVs. Just like I enjoyed the banter, I thought the dual POVs from Adam and Khara’s perspectives was perfectly done. I loved the transitions between scenes executed by the change in perspectives.

Series Value

I’d love to see a continuation of this series. Khara and Adam’s lives are both taking some crazy turns at the end of this book and I’d enjoy reading more about that as well as reading more about some of the side characters.

As I was writing this post, I discovered that this book is actually a spin off. If you like these characters, you can read the Westerwald trilogy by Romy Sommer and find out the backstory behind several of the characters we met here. (Or, you could read those first so you won’t have spoilers 😉).

Final Thoughts

This book was super cute. It was a quick read and it helped me out of a reading slump I was experiencing with my current fantasy read. I read this one all in one sitting and would definitely read more by Romy Sommer.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Khara's a cocktail waitress but her BFF married a prince (in Las Vegas) and now she's going to Europe to be maid of honor in the big wedding. She's an outlier for the crowd but she does feel something about Adam. What might that be? This is part of a series and I read it as a standalone-I know I missed a few things as a result. That said, it's a quick and entertaining read for an rainy afternoon. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

Thank you Netgalley and HarperCoins Publishers for the ARC of My Best Friends Royal Wedding by Romy Sommers

The Prince and Me meets Pretty Woman in Romy Sommers new book My Best Friends Royal Wedding. I really am a sucker for books about royals falling in love.

Khara is a very head strong independent woman. She had to be she didn’t grow up with a father (she had a step father but I’ll get to that). Her mom was a job hopper and same goes for men. She thought there was always something better for her out there. Khara has to work, at a casino in Vegas as a waitress, to pay for her college tuition. One night she meets Adam at her place of work. Where she comes to think not all men are they same. She just didn’t give it enough time because he proved that Theory wrong.
Adam is well how to say it a man whore. A one trick pony a Wham Bam thank you ma’am kind of guy who doesn’t wait around for the morning sun. When his cousin Nick dies he’s given the opportunity to take the crown but he’s really got commitment issues until one year later he meets Khara again. Here it is his second chance. So in the words of RuPaul don’t **** it up.

There was something I really didn’t understand. In the beginning where we learn about Khara’s mother. She’s a woman that never settles, Khara drops a bomb shell on us that she has a stepfather. Ugh......where did he come from, but it does on to tell us who and what his part is. I would like to have seen more of her stepfather mentioned. He did stay around to “care” for Khara so why didn’t he play more of a fatherly part in the book. Like he calls her, she lets out her fillings to him, he gives her fatherly advice. I mean he was portrayed as a father figure that cared but yet he was very absent in the book.

This is definitely a 'me-thing'. My Best Friend's Royal Wedding by Romy Sommer is about Khara Thomas, a cocktail waitress, who is the only bridesmaid to her best friend's royal wedding. Adam Hatton is the gorgeous but infuriating best man. As you can expect... they will fall in love, yada yada.

That I expected when I went into this book. However, what I didn't expect is how whiny both main characters are! They both sound like whiny teenagers instead of adults. Khara kept on saying how poor she is and how rich the royal family's side is. She kept on saying that she hated rich men and knew Adam’s entitled rich guy type... but obviously feelings get develop.

Adam... not only he sounds whiny but also very pretentious. He says stuffs like "You're not the boss of me". Instead of a grown man that he's supposed to be and ready to be part of something more important.

I received an eARC copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This has no impact on my review/thoughts.

Meh. Wish I has know this is a spin off of a prior series. Although it wasn't difficult to,follow, along I felt like the backstory may have helped me enjoy it more. My main issue was Khara. I didn't like her. She was stubborn and judgmental. Because I didn't connect with her I wasn't invested at all. Just not a good fit for me.

This is my first book by Romy Sommer and frankly, I wasn't sure what to expect, and whilst it's not my usual read I did find it to be a sweet, lighthearted, and somewhat fluffy tale. That although a little slow to develop was certainly pleasing to read; and even though I'm new to this series, and these characters I didn't have any problem following along. Yet, I did find it difficult to connect with certain characters who came across as a tad clichéd, but there were many others, I really liked and so, it was easy to overlook the faults of some, and there's, no denying It was easy and engaging. So, if you're looking for a clean royal romance, that is genuinely entertaining then, you should definitely check My Best Friend's Royal Wedding out.

As a big time Royal enthusiast, I was really looking forward to digging into My Best Friend's Royal Wedding!

This book revolves around our protagonist, Khara, a hard working cocktail waitress/student. She is asked to be the maid of honor in her best friend's over the top European Royal wedding. The best man, Adam, turns out to be a handsome, but arrogant man she met a year prior. Khara balances trying to fit into this Royal life while also fighting her attraction to Adam...

This book was exactly what I hoped it would be: fun, flirty and oh so Royal. I would recommend to anyone looking for a feel good love story!

Like a modern day Pride and Prejudice, this book is all about overcoming biases, past mistreatment, and personal growth. A healthy romance, Khara and Adam are the perfect Lizzie and Darcy, with modern sexuality and human stories. Once I started the book I hated to put it down. Loved every minute of reading it.

I really didn't want My Best Friend's Royal Wedding to end! Hopefully there will be a sequel!
While her best friend sets to marry the Archduke, Khara is determined to not fall for the striking good looks and suave ways of the Best Man, Adam. Throughout the story, though, he tries to break down her walls and realizes that she might be someone he wants to hang onto. The one-night-stands that are his typical go-to just won't cut it with Khara.

A very funny enemies to lovers story with characters that could easily be one of my friends in real life and all the shenanigans that they would come up with.
It's a quick read and a good plot but something felt off for me to like it more than my rating. At times, the heroine annoyed me a lot and in other chapters, it was the hero.
I'll be reading more books by the author even if this one was just ok-ish for me.

It took me a few weeks to get into this book but I honestly have no idea why. Once I made the decision to read beyond chapter one I just wanted to keep on reading and ended up absorbing the book. Of course it was predictable but I liked the feistiness of the main character. I enjoyed her relationship with her best friend and, while the story was predictable, I also liked that it was just a little bit different. I will definitely look for more from this author

DNF - I got to about 30% and couldn’t keep going. If you’re looking for a very predictable, hallmark-like type romance, then this is for you. That is not a bad thing, but it was not working for me. Maybe another time. It is enemies-to-lovers, with a very brisk pace, and a very simple style of storytelling. Again, not for me, but if you want something short & formulaic, then this could be an option.

Vegas bartender, secret wedding, royal Wedding, small European countries, champagne, tiny food, fancy dress, ballroom dancing, art gallery, polo, and douche rich boy maybe prince all wrapped up into a fun, cute, lovable book! This book is prime movie quality with fun characters, Beautiful setting, and HEA! It's quick, light-hearted and a fairytale!

This was my first book by Romy Sommer and I liked her writing. Some parts got too long and I wish Adam wasn't such a douche during well the whole book. It seemed there was more backstory and once I looked on line, it seems this book is in a series but not listed as one?! It also has some more steam than I thought it might but not a lot, way towards the end.

Overall, 3 stars and 3/5 for steam.

I am usually a big fan of any type of royalty romance, but this one missed the mark for me. There’s something about the main character that fell flat – I found her to be annoying, judgmental and overall unlikeable. While I enjoy reading some unlikeable characters, Khara was just not one of them. I have a hard time getting into a book if I don’t connect with the main character in some sort of way or at least enjoy reading from their perspective.

The love interest, Adam, is a little different story. I think his character progressed and grew in a natural and believable way, which made him as a character more enjoyable to read about.

Unfortunately this book wasn’t for me. I think others might like this one, but I think it just fell flat. Overall the premise seemed very intriguing but I just couldn’t get into it. I found myself putting off reading it because I didn’t enjoy reading about this story or these characters.

This was fine. I feel like it lacked chemistry between the two main characters and honestly, I barely liked Khara as a character. She was really hardheaded and judgemental and I don't think it was warranted. She held a grudge for a LONG time and could have cleared the air early on. Instead, she was just rude to Adam the entire time. Like okay yeah he's a man-child but I don't know. It wasn't like a enemies to lovers type book - even though it sounded like it was going to be.

The writing just wasn't for me. Unfortunately, there are many stories similar to this one and this one needed to step up a little bit to be in its own light, but instead was the shadow of the others that came before it.

Cute, fun, lighthearted, this book would be a good palate cleanser if you just read a heavy or angsty book and need a break. It's an enjoyable feel good-romance between a no-nonsense Vegas waitress and a royal from a fantasy kingdom. I realized it was the second in a series when I started reading, but it can be read as a standalone.

Before I start, I should make it clear that this is actually the second book in a series however can be read as a standalone which is what I did. The first book covers the story of Khara’s best friend and how she meets her soon to be husband.

This was a cute book and probably came out at the right time in terms of all the hype in royal based contemporaries. I liked the writing style and the concept of this story and is honestly perfect for those who love a good Hallmark movie. It was cute, it was cheesy and it was a quick, fluffy read.

However, there were a lot of times the book just fell a bit flat for me. I found it incredibly hard to connect with the two main characters at time and was left frustrated at their behaviour. I found myself struggling to find myself emotionally connected to the story, but that could be down to the fact that it feels like I’m falling into a bit of a book slump.

Overall it was a cute read and would be the perfect Hallmark movie!

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Impulse and Killer Reads for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

First off, I’m really not a fan of modern royals but I decided to give this a chance. Needless to say, I’m still not a fan of modern royals. I couldn’t stand Adam for about 75% of the book. Every woman that he and Khara run into, he’s slept with. WHY?! Even when he finally had his epiphany, I didn’t buy it. I liked Khara for the most part. Despite growing up in a trailer park and having that stigma surrounding her, she was very intelligent...until she wasn’t. I really wish she had just found someone else and not gotten with Adam. There was some chemistry and real potential for this to be a good story but it just fell flat. And then the ending was so unrealistic and cliche. I didn’t feel it fit at all with who the characters were presented as.
