A lighthearted read which kept me entertained. Enjoyable read which you could imagine being a Netflix teen flick.
A light romance is sometimes in order. A struggling Vegas waitress's best friend marries a prince of a small European country and who is the bridal party but another commoner and a prince? I liked parts of this book (as long as you can let go of how fantastical it is) but the two main characters constantly annoyed me. Fun for an in-between read if you like royals and romance.
This was a cute and light-hearted quick read that I enjoyed more than I thought I would! The story sucked me in and I just kept reading even though I figured it was going to be a predictable ending. If you like Hallmark movies, this is a book for you.
Every time the male lead opened his mouth, I cringed. When it was his POV, I wanted him to stay single. He constantly says that he doesn't commit to anything. His character growth is not believable. It felt like because it was the ending he had to accept responsibilities. The main female was okay but I didn't understand why she wanted a romantic relationship with him. And constantly telling me that they had 'chemistry' is not a reason. Just have sex then.
Slow beginning. Quick ending. The events taken place after the wedding were more interesting but were too rushed.
Based on ARC received from Netgalley for an honest review.
I good enemies to lovers romance can wipe away lots of bad feels. Romy Sommer's book does just that. Khara and Adam's backstory from the prologue adds a lot of depth to their interactions throughout the book, especially as you realize Adam's point of view on the moment. I would be lying if I said I was totally satisfied with this book. Mostly I feel an incredibly sense of loss that we didn't get to have Pheonix's love story. It sounded incredibly compelling throughout Khara's storytelling and I just wanted so much more. I highly recommend this to any fans of enemies to lovers or Pride and Prejudice fans!
It was hard to relate to these characters at first for me, but I can’t deny a good Hallmark feeling rom com book. Was it my favorite book I’ve ever read? No. But did I enjoy it? Very much so!
To be honest, I didn't love this book by Romy Sommer as I found it to be too unrealistic. I also couldn't really empathise or connect with either of the main characters - they were both a bit annoying! Khara is a Las Vegas waitress, working to put herself through school while she lives in a trailer park with her mum, Then you have Adam, the rich kid who doesn't do relationships and could be running a fictional country one day. As the title suggests, their best friends get married and there is the whole will-they-won't-they dynamic, as Adam helps Khara fit into the royal world.
I received an ARC through NetGalley but all opinions are my own.
A lighthearted read. Set mainly in two small fictional European countries, this is the story of Khara and Adam. A case of opposites attract.
The hero and heroine were not very likable characters. With the book opening with his cousin’s death and the lack of reaction to it, immediately threw me off. His constant talk about how he’s not a great person and her judgementalness made it hard to connect with them.

Overall, this was a light, quick read. The Netgalley version was difficult to read on Kindle, but I appreciate my free advanced copy all the same 😊
I did not realize this book is part of a whole series of books by the author, so it's fine as a stand alone. It did seem like part of a whole "universe" because of the the overly detailed backstories of Max & Phoenix (the royal wedding couple).
I liked to 2 main characters, Khara & Adam. The development of their relationship was good, but it took a strange turn without explanation. Adam is trying his level best to get Khara to sleep with him, and the moment comes and he turns her down. This is one of those first person switch off chapters, so we are part of his internal monologue, save for the total change of plans. Odd.
The ending of the book was very rushed. I always like a HEA, but this was an Oprah's favorite things of HEA... You get a HEA, minor character with no dialogue- you get a HEA, etc.
If you are looking for a no-brainer book to recover from Anna Karenina, you'll be happy with this one.
I really wanted to love this book but it just fell flat for me unfortunately. I think the main issue was I just didn't like or connect with the main characters. There was no real spark for me. It's a pleasant read with its predictability which is sometimes what you're looking for in a book, but there was just no connection for me.
A promising concept, I wish saw more of the development of Khara and Adam's romance in the book. The potential was there, the final story was just a bit of a let down for me personally. There was just so much tension and angst but everything was wrapped up too neatly and swiftly in the end. Still if you're a royalist you may find Romy Sommer's My Best Friend’s Royal Wedding to be a fun read after all it is a light and easy and has a royal setting.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this book.
I can see what the author was trying to do; a fairy tale with a prince and the girl from the wrong side of the tracks, however it wasn't as fun as I expected. Maybe the characters didn't have enough banter between them, or the etiquette side of things held the story up, but it only got interesting around the 80% mark.
2.5 stars
I can't decide if I liked this one or not. While the story was pretty decent I didn't love or connect to the characters too much, and Khara annoyed the crap out of me. She is supposed to be this strong independent woman but she limits herself and insults herself constantly. I know that is supposed to reflect her damage or whatever but it's annoying. And the pacing for the book wasn't great, at times it felt impossibly long and I just wanted it to be over. I wanted this to be like a fun grown up book version of The Prince and Me but it was kind of meh.
I really didn't like the writing here. It's a cliche book just like many romantic books and I didn't care for the main characters.
I usually love a royal themed romance but this one was not my favorite. While I loved the setting and premise of the story, I had trouble connecting with Khara and found her to be annoying. Adam fell flat for me also. He was too shallow and entitled and was a jerk for too much of the book. I couldn’t really feel the chemistry between them. I also hadn’t read the Waking up in Vegas trilogy so I felt like I was missing something by not knowing Phoenix and Max. The formatting was also pretty bad and bothered me. However, this book still had some fun moments and was a light romantic read. 2.5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.
I wanted to love this book because it showed a lot of promise but in my honest opinion, the female character was quite unlikable and hard to root for. She was just too much and un-relatable half the time and the male character was kind of a jerk but i guess in the grand scheme of things, they made sense and it was cool to read about royalty so that part was good, overall, entertaining read and the format of the book drove me crazy. It was so confusing and annoying at times.
My copy of this book was very disjointed on the Kindle app, which made reading it very difficult. Sentences cut off half way and then continued on the next line.
Khara was so hard for me to stomach.
This was a fluff book with no substance.
This one was okay for me. It wasn’t one of my favorites but it was still enjoyable for me to finish.
This is an enemies to lovers sort of romance. For their first meeting, he didn't leave the greatest impression on her and when they meet again a year later, she is still carrying that anger with her. He doesn't understand the grudge she is holding and tries his best to win her over, which is no easy feat since she is a stubborn and head strong woman. In addition to the romance, she is trying to learn the royal protocol, which isn't an easy feat since she is a girl from a trailer park. He likewise has his own internal dilemma. One that will change not only his life, but the life of a country. This is a pretty clean read, but not squeaky. There are some humorous moments, but it's not really a LOL comedy. It is a bit of a roller coaster of emotions. Just when things start to go good between the couple, something happens to bring them down, though there aren't really any teary eyed moments. Mostly it goes from happy to confusion to angry to forgiveness... rinse and repeat. While I enjoyed the story, it seemed like at times it dragged along. I found myself taking more breaks than normal while reading. I did enjoy the characters, including the side characters (which brought along some of the comedy, and whom we learn enough about to want to go and read their books if you haven't already.)
