I was a bit surprised to learn this was #2 in a series - as I don't see it listed here or anywhere else as a series and yet, there is definitely a book 1 with another mystery and these two PI's. However, because I only read this one, I think it stands well on its own. But be warned, even though the questions are answered, it does end on a cliffhanger.
I liked Lee and Jo own and their Private investigation company. I found the mystery compelling and the pacing, while it started a bit slow, picked up about halfway and held me through to the end. I wouldn't say this one stands out as one I'll remember, I did enjoy it while I was reading it!
A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.
A great private investigative mystery! What everyone is brushing off as a suicide, private investigators Lee and Jo leave no stone unturned to find the truth!
This was really a very entertaining read that I enjoyed from beginning to end, and I will make a point of reading more by this author in future! Recommended for anyone who loves a good read that keeps you glued until the end.

I hadn’t realised this was the second in the series but that didn’t stop me enjoying it and it works well as a stand alone book too.
The idea behind this book is great - a Missing Persons private investigation agency! Something completely different and I found it such a brilliant read. So many twists and turns and it really was cleverly written, showing the different between PIs and the police!
A great read, really loved it. Great characters and fantastic plot. Looking more forward to reading more from the author in the future.
Unfortunately this book wasn’t for me and I struggled through it. Only sure what exactly the problem was but perhaps because it was the second in the series and I wasn’t aware of that.
I am my own worst enemy with this book as I did not realise it was a second book and rather than be patient and wait and read the first one first I jumped in and read this one first and I really wish I had not done that.
Fast, gripping pace and two plots unravelling at break neck speed but by no means confusing.
Raced to the finish and to the first book which is just as good. Definitely a new author for me. Really enjoyed both
This a great crime book with amazing female characters
This book is second in the series but can be read as a standalone.
The pacing of this book is good as is the plot. A great read
I had heard a lot about this book so was looking forward to reading it . Unfortunately I couldn't get into to it . I found it really slow and it couldn't hold my attention
i had a lot of fun reading this, it had what I was looking for in a mystery novel and still had some humor throughout. I really enjoyed reading this.
When a book asks me questions, there is a good chance I will enjoy it more. This wonderful story consistently asked me about the quality of this private investigator team. Were they very good or did their flaws make them impossible to work with. The writer cleverly takes us between the two.
They know there’s a link between the way the body is displayed and where it is found and thankfully, it takes the entire book to find that link. The writer leads us down blind alleys thinking we’ve found a clue, when we haven’t.
This is a joy to read, although the subject is very difficult to deal with. I look forward to further books by this writer. I’ll need a nice and easy read after this kept me on the edge of my sofa wondering what would be revealed next.
The feminist views do not detract from the story, even if the reader doesn't feel as strong as the writer (may do). Finding a missing boyfriend for one client is not solved in any way you could have considered. That's why you just have to keep reading.
Well written and interesting but I found it to be slow. It was hard to keep my interest at first but it got better and more interesting the second half of the book.
3.5 stars
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me access to this book. This is my honest review. All opinions are my own.
Sadly DNF it at 20% just couldn't get into at all. And there was nothing to it that was keeping my attention.
This was such an amazing read. A bit slow in the beginning but once I got a little bit farther I was hooked. A page turner through the end.
I really enjoyed this book. I havent really read a lot of suspense or crime novels and I think I am going to have to start.
When a young woman is found naked and tied toa statue outside of some luxury flats, the police rule it a suicide. Private Investigators Lee and Jo are tasked with looking into the case. What they find isnt what any one expected. This book is filled with shocking truths, twists and makes you wonder if anyone is ever safe in this world.
Lee and Jo are the female investigators in The Runaway. They run the missing persons agency called No Stone Unturned, I just love this name. You know these two mean business and will go to ant lengths to solve the cases they are assigned.
The Runaway is the second in a series, but it's easily read as a standalone. In The Runaway Lee and Jo are tasked with two cases. Firstly, Nikki comes in to ask them to find her missing boyfriend Matt. He went to a party one night and has not been seen since.
The case of missing Matt leads Lee and Jo to partying in an open field, where they start to uncover some secrets that Nikki may not want to hear. But, Nikki has her own secret she needs to tell Matt. Will everything come together?
The Runaway deals with two cases, and the second case comes from a journalist. He asks the women of No Stone Unturned, to look into a cold case of a female found tied naked to a statue. The female in question has never been identified. When Lee and Jo delve deeper into this cold case it highlights some issues that occur during these type of investigations.
"These women were ghosts, drifting in and out of people’s lives, not having made enough of an impact to even be sought."
I really enjoyed this story, the chemistry between Lee and Jo was great. And, it's always good to have strong female leads in books. Credit also needs to go to Aunt Edie. Her character brought light humour to this tense thriller.
The Runaway was an adrenaline inducing read. Filled with twists and turns to keep us on the edge of our seats.
Thanks to Ali for my gifted digital copy. Also to the publishers and Netgalley.
An enjoyable crime thriller
Welcome to No Stone Unturned, a private detective agency run by best friends Lee and Jo. Tasked by a client to find her missing boyfriend, Matt, the ladies set off on a mission to find out where he is and why he has disappeared. As they dig deeper, you will be shocked by what they find out.
Whilst looking for the missing boyfriend, Lee and Jo are also asked to investigate an old case. Seven years ago, a girl was found to have committed suicide in a park. She had been found naked and tied to a statue, but she had never been identified. Determined to find out who she was and why she killed herself in such a horrific way, Lee and Jo live up to their company’s name and definitely don’t leave any stones unturned. Unfortunately, this could mean putting themselves in danger on their quest to find answers.
The two plots run alongside each other well in this story. I think it is good that there are two cases for us to follow as it helps keep the reader’s interest throughout. The story is narrated by Lee, but I think it could work just as well being narrated by Jo or even by both.
I would say the first half of this book is quite slow-paced, but it soon picks up and I did find myself quite gripped and wanting to read it whenever I had the chance. Unfortunately, I realised at the end that this is the second book in a series. Whilst the story itself is fine to read as a standalone, I do wish I had read the first book before as I would have been more familiar with some of the characters and their back story. It mentioned things at times from Lee and Jo’s last case, but I didn’t know what it was referring too.
The ending was good and answers the questions you will ask yourself throughout the book. There is a bit of a cliff-hanger though so I am sure we will get to read another book in this crime fiction series.
Thank you to the author Ali Harper for my gifted copy of this book via NetGalley.
